Pat Block will have a story in Christmas Parade #5 (which has been rescheduled for Christmas 2008). Here's the contents:
"In Carl Barks' feature-length "Thrifty Spendthrift," a hypnotized Scrooge recreates the famous "Twelve Days of Christmas" song in real life! Then "Mr. Clerkly's Christmas" explores the rocky yuletide relationship between Scrooge and his long-suffering accountant. Of course, Scrooge isn't the only star of 2007. In Pat and Shelly Block's "Cookery Countdown," it's Donald Duck's turn to create an explosive Christmas dinner. And in Stefan Petrucha's "Better To Give Than Deceive," Horace Horsecollar gets an unexpected chance to play Santa. Finally, fan favorite Romano Scarpa wraps things up with an extended-length Mickey and Goofy adventure!

That wasn't the Pat and Shelly Block story I was referring to. I saw an advert (preview list) for a special book ($9.95 book-the size of The Spring Special?) with a long story by Block, listed on The Gemstone website.

If it's the Case of the Missing Mummy, yes - that has been published.

Er... we had an article about the end of our "lagging" in Scoop this week!
There's a reason we advertise our e-zine, after all. It's sometimes where we announce important information first. (-:

"The Case of the Missing Mummy" has been on shelves now for quite some time. It came out with the very last batch comics - namely the October issues. It also has Carl Barks' "The Mummy's Ring" with one of those gorgeous Marco Rota Zio Paperone covers on the back (seriously - those things need to be utilized a LOT MORE OFTEN for stories). I've seen a few extra copies sitting on shelves in the comic book store I frequent.
6 books for each set in a two month period excluding specials and trades...wow.
That accelerated schedule is looking nice. Gonna be murder on my wallet, but since I don't buy any more comics besides Gladstone at this point, I suppose that won't be an issue anymore. (Also store credit is AWESOME ^_^)

So it has! I did not know a thing about it. Thanks to everyone!
The description is intriguing:
Presenting Gemstone's first-ever "Choose-Your-Own-Disney-Adventure:" a modern tale of Egyptian intrigue in which you decide the fate of Donald Duck and Huey, Dewey and Louie!
Does this mean I's like those '80's books where you had several choices and you read the corresponding paragraph (and rolled dice to fight or such things)?

Freddy Milton has done a whole series of books like that starring his Goose-character private detective.

That's exactly what it means. It's an interesting story. Not exactly my cup of tea for reasons I won't go into here, but it was a decent and well thought out story given its eclectic layout. It's a very "interactive" story that I could see a lot of little kids loving, but as an experiment I don't think it should be done that often if at all, especially with the duck and mice set. However, I gotta admit that on its own does stand out as one of the more inventive and "neat" Duck scripts (in terms of how it was executed) to come down the pike in some time.
I think it would have worked better if printed in a Donald and Mickey prestige or an alternating Donald Duck prestige myself. **HINTHINTHINTHINTHINT**

Cooool. I had a lot of those books that appeared in the '80's (I still have them).
Without having seen the result yet, I agree it sounds a bit odd in the Disney unvierse (or any other, as the basic principle is that the reader is the hero), but it certainly was a very original thing to attempt. I can't wait to read it (but I won't be able to soon).

Quote from user: GemstoneDisney Comics: Getting Back on Track
Through a variety of circumstances, our Disney comics got off their traditionally very dependable schedule (actually, before this it was relentlessly dependable). We wanted to wait until we had a plan to correct the situation to announce it. Now we have our plans in place and plan on initiating the following accelerated schedule. A few details are still pending, though, but we thought we'd show you how we plan to get our titles caught up:
On Sale January 2, 2008
DuckTales ?? Volume 3 [trade paperback]
Uncle Scrooge #371
Walt Disney??s Comics & Stories #686
On Sale January 16, 2008
Walt Disney??s Treasures ?? Volume 2 [trade paperback]

On Sale March 12, 2008
Spring Fever #2 [special]
On Sale March 26, 2008
Uncle Scrooge #376
Walt Disney??s Comics & Stories #691
Our regular slate of monthlies and specials resumes in April 2008. As a result of this schedule change, only Christmas Parade #5 has been postponed. Retailer orders for this special will be canceled and it will be offered again in advance of the holiday season in 2008.
??We apologize to all of our loyal readers and retailers for the delays in these books. With this revised schedule, we firmly expect to be back up and running on our usual clockwork-like schedule in April,? said John Clark, Editor-in-Chief of Gemstone??s Disney comics line. ??On the other hand, all of the phone calls and emails have really reminded us that a lot of people really love our comics. We??re looking forward to rewarding their patience and support with a lot of great projects in the coming months.?
Thanks, EBi for being the messenger of potentially happy news. A total of no less than 9 releases in Jan. followed by 4 more in Feb. sounds a bit pie-in-the-sky to me... but we'll see.

Quote from user: Roger NorthI'm sure they will be somewhat good. Oliver I also have alot of Disney Comics from the 80's and from the 90's and some of them are even from the mid 2000s. Check my What Disney Comics Issues thread to see what issues I have.
I have browsed through it a few times, and noted the great diversity of the titles, Roger (ie, not just Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck, but also The Rescue Rangers, ...).
There is a slight misunderstanding here, though: I was referring to specific non-Disney books that appeared in the mid '80's-- I don't recall the English name for this kind of narrative (a solitary role-playing sort of book), where you are the hero and you decide at the end of each part / paragraph what to do, and go read the corresponding (numbered) paragraph elsewhere in the book. Quite a clever idea, that made the story drastically different depending on your choices.
That's the kind of story WB said "The Case of the Missing Mummy" is.
