My trouble with that route is plunking down $168 all at once rather than a single issue here, two there, every other month or so when they deign to release them. I know it all amounts to the same, but there's something about spending that much in one lump sum...

My comics shop typically discounts 15% (usually 20% off for me since I?m a regular customer). Even with California tax at 8.25% it still pays to buy from the store. They usually get about 7 or 8 copies and I choose the best copy for my collection and a second one for reading by me and my kids.

That's also a good point, I get 10% off at my shop. Not quite as good a deal, but still beats the subscription price.

Guess What They put the latest issue of Walt Disney's Comics and Stories on Gemstone's back issue page but not the latest issue of Uncle Scrooge. Is that weird or what?

My shop has no discount...plus tax - close to 9 bucks an issue x 12 = $108.00 a year, plus the gas (currently 3.58 a gallon here right now,) and time to get there and time it right so I get an issue....subscription - $83.00...comes to my mailbox. I don't get WDC&S but I can understand those that do - easier to buy 2 issues a month than set down the chunk and not get any results for quite some time. It's all relative as long as we support the cause! :)

I have purchased directly from Gemstone in the past, but not as a subscriber. My first experience a couple of years ago was terrible. The several back issues (about 5) that I had ordered were shipped in an envelope and I was aghast at the damage to the comics. They were all bent to hell as if the envelope had been dropped repeatedly on the same corners, then picked up and thrown across the room several times! I contacted Judy Goodwin and she was nice about sending replacements. These too were shipped likewise and again damaged as much if not more than the first lot! I couldn't believe it! And I had even requested that they be protected with cardboard the second time around. Again I emailed Judy and also telephoned her expressing my disbelief and disappointment at what had happened for the second time. I explained to her that I thought a large portion of the Uncle Scrooge readership are collectors who demand near mint copies and that I was never going to order from Gemstone again. I said I wanted to send back the second shipment so that she herself can witness the mauling that these comics had endured. Her response was to send me a third installment of the comics, packed very well, between boards AND shipped in a BOX. The comics were mint.
Since then I have ordered several more times and each time I get the "collector treatment." I guess my point is that if you care about getting mint books make some noise ahead of time.

Sheesh, sounds like a mess. That's kind of a rain on my parade. Ah well, they're just comics.....We'll see what happens when they come around.

Does anyone know if Gemstone is participating in free comic book day this year or not? I will not be bothering to go to the shop if they aren't. :)
Roger North
Yes they are. I believe this year's Free Comic Book Day issue features Gyro Gearloose. Those Free Comic Book Day issues are so hard to find though.

My shop owner should take care of me, he's pretty good about stuff like that. Assuming he actually gets any of them of course. Thanks!

Same here, the comic shop I go to saves my comics for me so I only have to go once a month to pick them up. They always save me a copy of the Free Comic Book Day issue. They also save me the Halloween ashcan, except for this past year, maybe they didn't even order any of those. I got this years Free Comic last Friday when I went to pick up the latest issues of Uncle Scrooge and Comics & Stories.

The latest issue of Uncle Scrooge is finally in the back issues column.

I received this week February issues of WDC and U$, and also all the twenty copies I ordered of the Gyro Gearloose FCBD. I hope this situation will be solved ASAP.

Just wondering if the release dates that Amazon has posted for Uncle Scrooge and Comics & Stories is anywhere close to actual release dates.
Uncle Scrooge #377 & Comics and Stories # 692 - July 2
378 693 - July 16
379 694 - July 30
380 695 - Aug 13

By this it looks like they should be back on schedule by August.
They also have the Vacation Parade #5 for a July 2 release.

Maybe someone could confirm this for us.
Roger North
I sure hope so but by the time Gemstone gets back on schedule my subscription to Uncle Scrooge will already be expired.
