Quote from user: LadyQuacklyI must confess, I was annoyed at Egmont anyway because of his attitude about Ludwig von Drake (but then, as a devout Von Drake fan I'm biased anyway. :) ).

It sure is Morequack. Just Go to The Scrooge McDuck Homepage and when you see Don Rosa's name you click it and you'll automatically know his E-mail address. That's how I did it.

Egmont bought, but it was shelved, due to Ludwig's ban. Gyro is a genius in only one area: the area of wacky ideas in inventing. And, he is modest about his talents. Ludwig, on the other hand, is a genius at EVERYTHING, and is egotistical. They are very different characters, and NOT interchangeable! I can see uses for both in different types of stories.

Amen to that. :) I've got the old Ludwig von Drake comics by Tony Strobl---though most of them look like the Dead Sea Scrolls (I manhandle everything I've got :) ). The one in best shape is LVD #4, and it's got a story with both Ludwig and Gyro in it: "The I.Q. Bugaboo", where Von Drake and Gearloose are competing to see who can come up with the best invention. It's quite entertaining to see the two working together (even if they're working AGAINST each other). This was NOT a great judgment call on Egmont's part. :P

Quote from user: Robb_KYes, I drew that drawing. I also drew a one-page Ludwig gag story, that Egmont bought, but it was shelved, due to Ludwig's ban. In fact, there was a Tony Strobl Donald Duck story in the early 1960s (1961? or 1962?) That featured both of them in prominent roles. I cant remember the title, but it was released in American Donald Duck (I believe it was one of the late 70s or early 80s in that series).

You did a lovely job on that drawing! :) Pity about that story, I'd have loved to see it. And yes, they're very different characters, and they should have both been in those stories. Sounds like the publishers use the same kind of reasoning as the Powers That Be that decide what people want to
watch on the Disney Channel. (The same wisdom that led to the demise of the "Vault Disney" late-night
slot. :P )

What a sad decision! I feeled depressed when I learn such news.
But... To my mind, there were a few lack of inspiration and a drawing less precise in the three last stories he made. Still good, obviously! but not masterpieces. He was not anymore at his top, quite simply.
And with (linked) eye's problems and struggles with publishers... It's probably better like that.
(Et le bonjour a Olivier, s'il me lit!)

It is true that it is sad to see Don Rosa to retire, but hey, we all have to go through there!
But Don Rosa has left us a great pleasure to read his stories, to savor every detail that has made its determination that this is perfect ...
A designer and sénariste out of the ordinary that I not forget anytime soon!
By the way, it will continue to make dedications?
Thank you
Excuse me if I do a lot of mistakes, I know little English.

It's nice to see so many Ludwig fans as a high percentage of people frequenting this website. That indicates to me that the policy of not using him is wrongly-conceived.
