I get the very distinct feeling you don't like Blum's story much. XD

Besides that, I'm not quite sure that anybody would want to bother typing all that on the credits page. Hahaha! :D

NO! I haven't even read Geoff's story. It's mostly sour grapes, as I had already written a story based on Barks' memories of what he had drawn in his original story which he told me in conversations we had at his house, or over the telephone.

I had a lot more to go on than what showed up in Barrier's book. My story was 10 pages, as Barks' original was. I showed it to my friend, Daan Jippes, who agreed to submit it, together with me to Egmont, with his promise to draw it up in Barks' 1952 style. Unfortunately, Egmont informed me that Geoff Bloom had already planned writing a similar story as part of a project to write many stories based on Barks' ideas which still hadn't been used. They told Daan and me that they'd wait to see Geoff's version and compare it with mine before deciding which one to use.

I wanted the one that would get published to be as close as possible to Barks' original story. So, I told Geoff of my experiences with Barks, and that I hoped he would use that additional information in creating his story. But, when I offered to tell him what Barks told me, he refused to listen. He told me that he was writing his own story "with a tip of the hat to Barks for the general idea". He didn't want any "extra" ideas getting in the way of his creativity. So, his story is likely to differ more from Barks' original than it might have. (I can't know until I read it).

Egmont liked Geoff's and decided to use his. Luckily, they had Daan draw Geoff's story. It ended up being 14 pages long, instead of Comics & Stories size of 10, and, of course, didn't contain story elements based on what Barks told me, over and above what Barrier reported. I offered my story to Dutch Disney (Sanoma Uitgevers), but Thom Roep didn't want to buy an extra version of the same story.

So,-I am still waiting to read Geoff's version, and waiting to see Daan's wonderful artwork. I'll post a page of my story's storyboards later on this thread.

Here is Page 8 (of 10) of the storyboards of my story, "Queen of The Apple Festival", based on what Carl Barks told me about his original story from 1952, in conversations in 1966, 1967, 1969 and 1973. He added a few different details each time.

Quote from user: Roger NorthI didn't know there was a Daan Jippes version of King Scrooge the First. I have the Tony Strobl version in Uncle Scrooge #345.
I don't think the Jippes version or the Printz-Pahlson version was even done at the time of that printing. Of course, I could be wrong (and knowing me I probably am. :)).
Ramapith
Er??what Printz-Påhlson version? O-:
Unn and Stefan are writers, not artists, and "King Scrooge" didn't need to be reWRITTEN to make it more like Barks!

Maybe they are referring to the Swedish and Danish translation, so it can be printed in Scandanavia? Maybe there are enough changes from Strobl's version (Barks panels that were deleted/changed) that new translations are desired? Daan Jippes' Danish is too weak to write a comedy story, and I'll wager that his Swedish is yet weaker.

Robb, if that's OK with you, I'll add your interesting scan to the Queen of the Apple Festival on COA

My story (submitted together with Daan Jippes to Egmont and Sanoma) was only considered for purchase by those publishers, but never bought, nor assigned a publisher's code number. So, in what category would you place it? -"Alternative Version-rejected"? Wouldn't it be more proper to scan Page 1, if it is to have a COA entry?

2004-10 pages Donald Duck -(based on plot idea and elements from Carl Barks- used in his 1952 shelved story for WDC &S 144)

I can send you a 300 dpi scan of Page 1, if you wish, as well as a comic book cover layout drawing I drew for it.

Figures. http://www.mobiusforum.net/images/icons/smilies/crazy.gif

I don't know where I got the idea that someone besides than Jippes was doing a redraw of that. I'd have sworn I'd read it somewhere or seen a page posted by someone other than Jippes or something that was by someone who's name sounded...I dunno...swedish or finnish or something...

**checks inducks and finds nothing**

AAARGH Now that's going to drive me crazy! http://www.gamingforce.org/forums/images/smilies/gonk.gif

WB-could you be remembering the four inked panels drawn by Ulrich Schroeder (of Germany), which were printed in The USA "Carl Barks Library"? He started a project many years ago, to redraw that story from photocopies of Barks' original storyboard sketches (as Jippes did with most of The Junior Woodchucks' stories). Ulie had finished 10 pages of the 24 page story, but was not satisfied with his work (God knows why?-as the four panels printed in CBL are FANTASTIC!) But he is a perfectionist.
In any case, only those 4 panels have been seen by the public, and to my knowledge, no one else other than Daan Jippes, has started to draw it, again. I had heard that Daan has already completed it, but that it hasn't been printed yet. It will be published first in Scandinavia, as far as I know. I'm not sure if it will premiere in The Danish "Carl Barks Collection", or will appear in a Danish comic book first.

THAT'S HIM!

Seriously man, I couldn't remember the name and it was driving me bonkers.

I can relate. We artist types are always temperamental about our stuff one way or another. It's our "thing". :)

Can't wait to see the Jippes' version when it finally does come our way. I always look forward to those as he really does do a grand spankin' job on his Barks redraws.

Are you an artist, WB , or just an "artist type"?

If you ARE an artist, what do you draw (or create)?

Also, - are you AKA Doctor Witchie Britchie?

Artist.
About two years ago I was drawing "Sonic the Hedgehog" for Archie. It was my very first professional gig and I learned a lot there - both good and bad. It was an interesting experience to say the least.
The above is just a really *really* crappy doodle I just sketched out at the labs in a few minutes (the gag ties into the previous discussion in the Murry thread).
http://chipandwalter.cartoonsdammit.com/ - Website with assorted stuffs very old and recent that probably won't be updated again until Christmas break.
I do two webcomics on and off right now and I'm currently in graduate school at the School of Visual Arts in NYC (first semester there). I'm freelancing for Gemstone at the moment though I haven't done any major art for them (heaven knows I'd love to draw and write some Mickey some day). Mostly it's been dialogue work while I do my studies ("The Great Gawrsh-Durn Champion" in WDC&S #681 and "By Twilight's Bite" in MMA #13 among a few others that haven't been printed yet.) It ain't much, but I love it. :)
Also - no sir - I am not Doctor Witchie Britchie, though I do remember him.

Nice drawing, WB! Good luck with your cartooning career.
There was a forum member on The Dutch McDuck/McDrake.NL International Forum named Dr. Witchie Britchie (Dr. WB), so I thought he may have morphed into "WB".
WB
Erm...yes. 12, not 13. My bad. (You'd think I'd know the correct issue number featuring my first Gemstone work -___- **le sigh**)

Never thought of that.
Not knowing what it stands for, I keep reading it as "Warner Bros", which is somewhat irritating because I know it's not the meaning yet it keeps popping in my head whenever I see it :p
