Quote from user: RunnerI agree about Jippes covers but if you want to be fooled then the cover of WDC&S 518 is the most astonishing in my opinion. If I didn't new that it isn't a Barks mid 1950's cover I definitely couldn't say that those Ducks were not drawn by Barks. It is probably the most Barks-"identical" drawing by Jippes ever in my opinion.
It is also interesting that Jippes can copy different Barks styles, especially regarding the nephews (example WDC&S 517 with rather typical Barksish 1948 nephews) but he is usually most exact overall in the mid 1950's style.
Referring to WDC&S 108 it is interesting that a comic book adaption of on oil painting with Scooge added was published in Carl Barks Library 8 and reprinted on the cover of WDC&S 601.

This must be one of Barks best covers since the 1940's and he did the comic book version when he was over 80 years old which is amazing. Actually you COULD mistake it for a Jippes cover from the same period (imitating Barks) but the Scrooge (refined 1960's style) face reveals that it is a true Barks I think. The style is overall very Barksish but you can't say that it definitely resemble any particular period but the Barks 1980's era, since Donald ressemble late 1940's or early 1950's style if any:-)
Barks made a few other new covers in somewhat similar style for comic books in the 80's and these must also be included in a complete Barks comic book collection.
I don't like those late Barks covers anywhere near as much as his 1940s and 195os, and even his 1960s work. Daan made about 3or 4 fabulous Barkslike covers for Gladstone at the start of their Walt Disney's Comics and Stories run, that were flawless.

I wonder which ones in particular you mean? His "infinity gag" cover for WDC 518 is one of my top dozen favorite Disney covers of all time. I also like the one where Donald is a magician, sawing the nephews in half, on WDC 515.

Most of those that I mentioned were during Gladstone's earliest period in 1986-87, I would guess. I'm only among Danish Disney comics right now, and don't know on which Danish comics they were printed.

Can't say I'd blame you. That would be a good issue to have. I don't have it either.

Quote from user: PhantomBlotHi everyone. I'm new here, and couldn't resist chiming in on "favorite cover". This cover is one of my favorite comic book covers of all time. It is one of those covers that I wish I could "walk into". Someday I want to have a poster sized version made for display at Christmastime. The artist might be Hank Porter, but even Gladstone was unsure when they published it.

It's a pretty good story especially if you have read both the prequels (Tralla La and The Lost Crown of Genghis Khan). I wish they didn't have Scrooge lose the Crown though. Oops I hope I didn't spoil it for you.

That Walt Kelly cover looks a bit like Calvo's art.

Quote from user: Dutch Duckfan Down UnderI in turn recieved some comics from the 80s and 90s today. I couldn't help but marvel at those early Gladstone covers. Jippes' art is at its liveliest, and the colors bounce off the covers! Especially WDC 512, 521 and 522!
Sure, the covers Jippes made for Gladstone's first WDC issues were very nice indeed. :) But I must say, I like Daan's old Dutch Weekly covers from the seventies even more. His art looks here more like Barks to me (some). And I love his extreme poses and expressions!
A few examples:

I also like this one, made for Gladstone Comic Album nr. 15: http://coa.inducks.org/story.php?c=ARC+GCA++15
I think this is my favorite cover by Jippes, I actually don't know why.
