Really developed an appreciation for his work during the Gemstone years.
And now I've made myself sad on two counts - the passing of Vicar, and the fact that I miss Gemstone.

That is Understandable MustangRockstar Especially the part about missing Gemstone. Let's hope the new company will be just as good as Gemstone and it's predecessors used to be. Boom wasn't that good judging how many people complained about them but at least they brought back some of the former Disney Afternoon Comic Books. I too miss Gemstone and Vicar. It's sad that he passed away.

This story is interesting because it showed a somewhat different style, but nevertheless it was pretty obvious it was from Vicar.
But my question if you compare this work to older work (like e.g. http://coa.inducks.org/story.php?c=D+95060) of him what you would favor?
In the 90ties the stories he drew and were published in the Dutch Donald Duck were really nice! Nowadays we would like some varation in the comics.. :)
As been reported he was a highly productiver comicwriter. That taken for granted I think his quality was pretty good over the years.
But what I was wondering, since he created/drew so many comicstories, did he really made them himself or did a lot of other (uncredited) members of his studio drew them as well?

AFAIK, Vicar made detailed sketches for every single story, making sure everything worked. His assistants then provided the final artwork based on those sketches.
And I miss him as well.

I'm proud to have a comic book sing by Vicar in my collection. He was a very good duck artist and drawn many memorable Duck stories...

BTW -> There is one very interesting three-page short story about meeting betwen Donald Duck and... Asterix Vicar wrote for Asterix aniversary book which included short stories by diffrent authors. Vicar was the only Disney artist to be included in the volume...

Just one more tribute to Vicar: I've been buying lots of French Disney comics this summer, and since I wrote my first list of Vicar faves here, I've discovered half a dozen more stories drawn by Vicar that I like enough to keep and re-read: the McGreals' Secret of Goblin Valley (cool animate-rock aliens and their rocky world), Paul Halas' The Magic Flute (Donald finds a flute haunted by its former owner, a great composer), Michael T. Gilbert's Party of None, Glen Garner's On the Run (Grandma Duck saves a journalist fleeing from bad guys!), and two by Gail Renard and Unn Printz-Pahlson: Castle McGhost and Out of Sight. Out of Sight has especially fun art--Scrooge breaks his glasses, and without them he is blind as Mr. Magoo, and gets driven around town by a circus bear whom he believes to be an applicant for the job of Scrooge's chauffeur (while Miss Quackfaster is wildly chasing after them). More French-published stories I've decided to keep have been drawn by Vicar than by any other artist save Rota. So I keep mentally raising a glass to Vicar's memory!

I recently noticed that one Vicar-created character I trully grown to like is Princess Oona. For those who don't know - She is basicaly the same concept as Bubba from DuckTales - a super strong caveduck who time travel to our times thank's to Gyros time machine and while enjoys living in our world she coses chaos all around (by acidently of course) However unlike Bubba she have an extra twist of being a love-sick female about Donald's age. Some stories had her try to date Donald or Gladstone (agianst their will) which lead to some funny scenarios.
Writers still use this character once a while and she become a welcome member of Duckburg society. I like her Polish name Neolita (a pun on the Neolithic age)
One more Vicar-created character I recall who got very popular Tachyon Farflung - an alien thief who plots to steal Uncle Scrooge Moeny Bin to earn the title of space greatest cryminal (similar motivation to Rosa Arpin Lusene ) but from what I recall he was seen stealing other valubale earth objects as well. However I don' think he was use by other creators then Vicar very much...

Ow, I see.
An article in the Polish "Hall of fame - Vicar" refrence those two characters as Vicar co-creations and mentiones that Oona was base on a Vicar character (a cave-duck as well) from a story in 1993.
