Am trying to decide if I want to make the 2 1/2 hour drive to Charlotte, NC this coming weekend. I have never been to a comic convention and am not sure what to expect, I am not a big fan of waiting in lines forever.
I wanted to get both hardcovers of the Life and Times autographed by Mr. Rosa, but I only have the first volume (thanks to Amazon). I don't think he would be interested in signing all 12 original comics. :)
If any of you don't mind me asking, how much are the prints that he has for sale?
Has anyone been to the Charlotte convention? I looked at their website and it looks like parking could be a problem.

Actually, odds are he wouldn't at all mind signing all twelve of them, assuming there wasn't too much of a crowd, and my experience is that there usually isn't. There may be a bit of a line occasionally, but the odds are just as good that there'll be NO one--or almost no one--present at any given time. Which sucks as a general thing, but is certainly beneficial to individual fans. To what McDuck_Enterprises said, I will add that he also has a buy three/get one free thing going on (and if you're anything like me, there'll be WAY more than three of them you'll be lusting after :P).
Also, be sure to bring some good-quality paper so you can get a sketch or three. 8 1/2x11 backing boards are good.

I made the trip yesterday and was glad that I did. It was a pleasure meeting Mr. Rosa. The Boom! booth had the Life and Times Vol. 2, so I was able to get both volumes signed, which was nice. I mentioned the DCF and the 4 for the price of 3 on the prints and he said I could have 5 for 3. It didn't make my decision any easier though, they all looked awesome. I went with Young and Old Scrooge glaring at each other, Scrooge and chest, Donald in car, Scrooge and Gyro, and Donald dumping money on Scrooge. I also got a sketch of Donald.
I couldn't help it, I had to get my copy of US 219 signed also, which he signed in gold above Scrooge and Glomgold. When he looked at my copy he mentioned something I knew nothing about. He said that my copy with the canes colored brown was rare and that he has only seen about ten of them, most are colored green. Has anyone else heard of this?

I met Don Rosa for the third time at the Detroit Motorcity comic convention a few weeks ago.
I got in line at Don's booth and ended up getting a few sketches/prints. One of the prints I got was a scene from Christmas at Shacktown which Don told me that I was the first one to mention the story that goes with it. He said most people just bought it because it looked nice.
Just before I was to leave my wife asked if I had gotten a hand sketch from Don and I realized that I had forgotten to ask him. She said "We had better go see him before we go" so we went back to his booth. I asked him how much he charges and he said "Free, If you provide the paper". Oh man oh man I had no paper. My wife said "I'll go get something" and off she went to go see what my sister had at the Dukes of Hazzard booth.
I chatted with Mr. Rosa a little bit while we waited for my wife to return (there was no one else in line at the time). Pretty soon my wife comes back with a poster board and Don started to laugh while saying something like "I don't usually draw them this big". I said "you can just put a small sketch anywhere on the board" and he said it would be no problem to fill it. He asked what I wanted a drawing of and I told him Gyro as I figured he must draw a ton of the US and DD pictures and I wanted something a little different. I got a pretty good sketch of Gyro with Helper and Don even colored in Helper's yellow light bulb head which I thought was cool.
I told Don that I had planned on framing the sketch and putting it on my wall with the rest and he looked at me like I was nuts. I had to chuckle at his reaction and I told him I appreciated his work on the Disney comics and it was an honor to have him do this for me. I told him that I wished that Disney/Boom would have him doing the current stories and he told me he could not comment on that. I told him thanks for the free sketch and the prints I had purchased earlier.
All in all I think Don is a really nice modest guy and it was fun to be able to chat with him a bit. :)

Next one's not 'til the end of August in Baltimore, I fear.
