Hello everyone, LONG TIME NO ANYTHING!!...
Sorry, I haven't kept up with my posts, but it's been a *VERY* difficult
semester this time! This maybe my last one for awhile so, I'll get on with
it!.. (To address some of the post in: Disney-comics digest #158.)

As many of you know I have been a Rosa fan even before he was doing

YES, unfortunately this is the case most of the time! I don't see why
people can't just let Don do what he loves doing with out always telling him
that: "You Sir, are NO Barks!" Who cares, who is anyway?!? They don't
ridicule Van Horn or any of the rest, so why do they consistently devour Don
alive???

Don's style can't help but to mature over time, as a fellow artist I
know from experience that if you work on anything long enough you naturally
get better at it and continually improve!

But, yes, it might take you many rereadings to notice all the
details, and some you may not ever suspect are authentic unless you
stumble on the facts by accident as you did the history of Marcus Daly.
It don't stop there -- someone actually DID try to gain ownership of the
Anaconda by buying adjacent land and suing for ownership through the
1849 Law of Apex, just like $crooge does in my story. And I was well
aware of how many shots $crooge shot out of his two six-shooters...
however I'm not sure if he didn't shoot 8 outta one and 4 outta t'other.
I can't brag much about my art and I'm no great wordsmith... that's why
I "try harder" and try to make up for it with my attention to detail.
You probably still haven't caught ALL the minute details -- it'll take
another buncha rereading or me sitting there pointing it all out to you.
But DON'T reread them again! Do something else! Your kind words are
appreciated, but the story isn't all THAT good... or maybe it is? I work
on each chapter so long and with such intensity that I get pretty fed up

Of course I reacted to that German tripe! It made me sick to my stomach, if
not necessarily literally, at least figuratively speaking!!! The reason I
didn't say much about it is, I guess, basically because I figured everyone on
this list would and does react pretty much as I did - we all know it is a
trashy piece of hogwash; albeit unfortunately rather cleverly disguised by
enough facts (like, they spell your name right, and you ARE working on a story
about $crooge's life etc.) to make it seem informed to the UNinformed average
German reader of the feature. Which of course makes it's (probably) malicious
intent all the more malicious... Yuk! Sick to my stomach... believe me!
But I didn't and don't see much point in ARGUING against it on THIS LIST,
really, because I just can't concieve any of us BELIEVING such crappy nonsense!
What I do, however, intend to do, and actually have been planning to do for
quite some time now, is to write a feature of my own about Lo$, to appear in
NAFS(k)uriren, and if it turns out well enough, possibly to translate it and
offer it to, well, Der Donaldist, Duckburg Times and/or The Barks Collector.
This, of course, won't go a very long way towards rectifying the maliciously
slanted slander against you in that article, since I will still be talking only
to those already in the know, but... what can one do, really?
And huccome they're DOING this to you in the first place?

- the copyright of that index is not too much violated

Danish index, but that wouldn't stop me from typing in something like

'creators' file and the Gladstone-Disney indexes, and Per the rest...

Howdy, y'all, in that great donaldistic multitude that constitutes this list!
I'm a bit curious: Per, or someone, just how many of us are there now - and
who are we, actually? Would it be possible to put together some sort of
presentation digest, or something, with short introduc(k)tions from each and
all of us? Where we live, what we do - anything we'd like to mention...

Maybe you can explain why you spell your English like this? Is this really
how they speak English in Sweden? 8-)
For me, who has English only as a second language, the spelling of your mails
make them a bit more difficult to read.
Mayby I shoot rite my Anglish wuhds jusst like dey are pronounst in Holland?

Technically, we can't do anything to add people to the mailing list. That's
on Per's machine and Per is the only one authorized on that machine.
But we can make up some initiation rites, if you want. Like: newcomers should
answer the next question correctly: "do you think Chip 'n' Dale are cute?"

our unix gurus here. I'll look at your indexes, embed them in the existing
gladstone-disney indexes, add some information of my own (from the comics
I bought in Texas), and (within a few days) send new versions to Per to put
on ftp.

"Hiya" to everybody new to the list! (and all the old-timers, too!)
A quick question:
What kind of personal indexing system does everybody use? I think for now,
that I'm just going to use Excel to catalog issues that I have. But
what kind of information do you like to have?
And a couple of comments:
I'm also a sometimes reader/poster to rec.arts.disney. I find that I have
mixed feelings about the comments by Don Rosa. I find that I skip over
~95% of the articles. I agree with Don that most of the bandwidth there
is wasted (i.e. "Oh - Ariel is sooo cute!" for hundreds of messages gets
very boring!) and the posters to the group could tone it down just a bit.
However, I do like to know about some of the behind the scenes stuff that
the Cast Members post about. So you just have to learn to tolerate the
overhead stuff to get to the stuff you really want to see. So the point
is is that the group is not a total waste of time.
Though I do think Chip 'n Dale are cute, and so is Mickey, you don't have
to let it get out-of-hand.
I also think that everything Disney should not be lumped into one group.
Disney Animation is NOT Disney Comics! Just as Superman Comics are not
the same as the Superman TV/Movies. I, personally, have enjoyed TailSpin,
(and the TailSpin Movie) and especially like Darkwing Duck. But these
are NOT animated comics!
But on to some comic related stuff: Did anyone ever let Gladstone know
about this list? In a recent printed letter in DDA #23, someone asked
how they can get in touch with other Disney Comics readers - and no
mention of us!
Lastly, is there new Mickey stuff being produced? I haven't looked at the
credits recently and since I still pretty green to comics I just don't
know.

P.S. Don - If you feel a little unappriecated by the folks at Disney, please
try to not let it get you down. There's still lots of people who do
like the work you do here in the U.S.

Though I do think Chip 'n Dale are cute, and so is Mickey, you don't have
to let it get out-of-hand.
I also think that everything Disney should not be lumped into one group.
Disney Animation is NOT Disney Comics! Just as Superman Comics are not
the same as the Superman TV/Movies. I, personally, have enjoyed TailSpin,
(and the TailSpin Movie) and especially like Darkwing Duck. But these
are NOT animated comics!
But on to some comic related stuff: Did anyone ever let Gladstone know
about this list? In a recent printed letter in DDA #23, someone asked
how they can get in touch with other Disney Comics readers - and no
mention of us!
Lastly, is there new Mickey stuff being produced? I haven't looked at the
credits recently and since I still pretty green to comics I just don't
know.

I can agree with this, and I do the FAQ for that group. Still, there is
some valuable information there, if you can find it. :-) I worry for
the future of the Internet (there's a million new members a month)-
these days, the same subjects come up often (I could make the FAQ
longer, as if 150K isn't big enough ;-)), 90% of some messages are included
from previous messages, etc. etc. But there are some Disney insiders
there (and on the FLORIDA forum on Compuserve) which make it generally
worthwhile (plus I'm writing some custom software to help me weed info
out). It's nice to have the quiet little Disney Comics mailing list
to turn to (though what's with all the "subscribe me please" messages
sent to the list recently?!? :-( Yeah, I know.)

I'll vouch for that. I love Don's work (when I can find it! arggh!)
and I've been collecting his comics. I grew up with Barks, and only Don
can compare (if he doesn't mind the useless comparisons- I don't think
it's really very appropriate to compare artists, movies, etc.- each should
stand alone). It's too bad the US market is bent more on comics with
mindless violence.
A friend of mine also loves Don's work- she pores over every frame to
examine the great detail put in to each one. In fact, she even thinks Barks'
art is not as good, and reads Don's stories almost exclusively!
