Relax, I do not think it is of great importance, and that
all the true fans are here on the list. The fact that all traffic is on this
list and not on the newsnet indicates that most of the ones interested
realizes what is going on and where the Action is.

Actually, it might mean that I am the only one reading the Newsnet
list (and that because I am too lazy to delete it). It is sort of
surprizing that there is no activity on its own there.

The first idea that pops into my head is women going on-line, pretending

EVEN: That's interesting, but I don't see this group anywhere! Is it
fa.disney-comics or with some more prefix? Or could it be that my provider,
UDAC in Uppsala, does not carry this newsgroup? I wonder how much one
misses, just because the provider skips a lot of groups. I have a little
more than 5000 groups, but somebody told me the other day that there are
almost 10 000 groups in the world (I don't know if this is true, but what
if?).

ALL: And as a newbie here I just have to say that I am almost shocked to
learn that Disney comics are so little appreciated in the US. On the other
hand, how is Gladstone doing? I mean in terms of sales and finance. Their
publications can't be cheap to produce, so they must sell, I guess. Is it
mostly to countries outside the US?

And the newsgroup about Disney is really a sad experience. I can't
understand this hype about Disneyland and Disney World. I mean, doesn't the
visitors care at all were all those people dressed up in mouse and duck
costumes really come from?

I can't sit and watch this without responding anymore. I've just become
so confused about the mailing-list, the Digest, the newsnet, etc. etc.
these last days. I've been around on the Newsnet a couple of months
and I subscribed to fa.disney-comics because it seemed interesting.
I am not one of those hard-core disney-fans as some of the contributers
obviously are. I grew up in the sixies,but don't remember reading any
Disney-comics before 1970. In the seventies the stories were OK, but
not more than that. Luckily I had this old aunt who had bought all
issues of Donald Duck & Co from the very beginning in Norway (1949?).
When I visited her I found the old stories much more fun than the new
ones....
I forgot all about it, but when I started to buy comics for my daugther
in the late eighties I began a little more research. I finally discovered
Carl Barks and I noticed that some of the new stories were really great!
There was this story about the Beagle-Boys (I've learned their English
names during my reading of the articles on Newsnet!) having this stop-watch
by which they could actually stop the time. There was also a story about
a gold island (?) raising from the see, timezones, etc.
So I found out that this fabulous artist was called Don Rosa and I started
looking for other stories he had written. And then came Lo$ (correct
written?)....
So you see, I just don't have that much knowledge to share about all this
little details in the stories, all the references to Barks' stories and
so on. But I do enjoy reading the discussions! I've learned a lot these
last months.
And know I understand that I don't belong to the good society. There is
a mailinglist where all the devoted fans are. Therefore the Digest and
all the talk about who the subscribers are.
OK, so maybe noone reads my message anyway (except Even?) so maybe
I should stop writing before I waste more of my precious time this
late monday night....

You and me both have been confused by the newsnet/Digest set up.
You've found that no one responds to the messages you post only to that
newsgroup? Perhaps they are the chronic "lurkers" over there? Perhaps
we're more involved activists on the Digest? Anyway, I thank you for
your kind comments, and I'll always respond to someone who offers me
such complements.

I'm not quite sure what's happening on the Digest at the time as it is several
weeks since I last got a message (I have been away most of the time, but have
gone through all my post and not seen anything later than August 24th).
However, in hope that my own messages still may get through, and that I once
again may be put on the list, I'd like to inform you (as already may have been
informed by several others..) that the first half of the new Barks story will be in
Norwegian Donald Duck next tuesday!

And a question to Don: Is it possible to get a transcription of (only) the poetry
from The War of the Wendigo, some way or other (by post,, homing pigeon,
pony express, e-mail etc.). All expenses will be paid!

Since there still seems to be some confusion about this.
The Usenet newsgroup fa.disney-comics is not meant to be
an independent newsgroup. It's only purpose is that
everyone who want to subscribe to the mailing-list can
just read the newsgroup (saves some disk space, I guess).

The prefix fa is, as far as I know, quiet historic.
The first mailing lists that were "converted" to newsgroups
had this prefix (fa = from arpanet?).

Until this discussion I didn't know that this group was
distributed outside ifi.uio.no (Institute of Informatics,
University of Oslo). Do you get the other fa.-groups as
well? At the moment there are 105 of them.

Enough of that...

Since I am (at the moment) not lurking any more, I could
as well introduce myself.
I am 23 years old. In the early seventies Hjemmet published
a series of albums with old Duck stories. My father bought
me one when I was four years old, and I loved it (I've still
got it. It's a bit shabby, but...). The stories where all by
Carl Barks, of course, but it took some years before I dis-
covered that.
A couple of years later I discovered my fathers collection
in my grandfathers house. It consisted of Donald Duck & Co,
and a few monthly magazines, from 1953 - 1971, and apart
from the years 1963 - 65, it's almost complete (my father
stopped bying them in 1968, and my grandfather has never
commented the last three years...).

Then I started to collect in 1979. A few years ago I started
to search for the magazines I missed. Almost everyone from
the seventies. When that is completed I continue bacwards.

I guess everybody have seen now that English is not my first
language. I hope it's not to annoying.

Then after some years with no surprises, and not very
exiting at all, I suddenly discovered a story with a very
different style. It also had an AR code that I hadn't seen
before. This was the best that had happened in years.
Suddenly it began to get exiting again. I always hoped that
a new issue would include a story by this artist, whose
name I later found out. Since I am a collector, I guess I
would have been going on anyway, but I am not to sure. If
it hadn't been for Don Rosa, I might have stopped bying
DD&Co (that sounds terrible...). After all, I have most
of Carl Barks works in the older magazines.

Well then, why am I not contributing to any of the
discussions? There is one minor (well, maybe major)
problem. The distance between me and my collection is
about 200 kilometers, which makes it a bit difficult
looking up things.

I started to read this newsgroup (eh, list) at once it
appeared here. Before that I didn't know it existed...
I have also read most of the archive from lysator, and I
must say I am very impressed. Your knowledge about this
subject is amazing. Through reading this I learned the
names of the authors and artists of things that I have
loved for years. I also realized that it was worthwile to
read the American Disney magazines (at least Gladstones),
and I am know subscribing to them.

I better stop now, this shouldn't become too long.

transcription of "War of the Wendigo" when it was printed in Norway?

I'm glad to see another "lurker" speak up. I'm fascinated by the
idea that there are people reading all these messages who don't speak up
but can say many interesting things. Thanks.
(Let's see how "fascinated" I am when one speaks up who DOESN'T
