Vree, thanks for an interesting post. That story where Pete tried to go back in time to talk Walt Disney out of drawing mice is indeed a striking example of breaking down the fourth wall!!
...and by a strange coincidence, I am just today reading John Scalzi's hilarious novel Redshirts (in preparation for going to see the new Star Trek movie), and its plot is *highly* reminiscent of the Pete-time-travels-to-get-Disney-not-to-create-Mickey plot. Very "recursive and meta," as a character in the novel would say.
