Decided to start this thread, lest we go on talking about all the IDW Scrooge issues in perpetuity on the U$ 1 (405) thread....
First, I really love Jonathan Gray's cover art of the pirate ship.
Second, I was happy to see "Shiver Me Timbers"--enhanced by Jonathan Gray's localization. From now on, every time I come to an explanatory flashback in a comic story, I'm going to hear a pirate's voice saying, "Here be our backstories!" BTW, I thought it was lucky for our sake that Jan Kruse's choice of scary legends came from America (headless horseman), Scotland (Nessie) and England (Arthur & Co.), and not from European traditions unfamiliar to us.
Third, in "Meteor Rights" I *loved* Joe Torcivia's throwaway line explaining at long last how Glomgold re-established wealth parity following Scrooge's acquisition of the 24-carat moon. Both Torcivia and Gray introduced a lot of additional laughs with their dialoguing.
I enjoyed the stories in this issue overall more than those in #1. I think it's a better issue to give to kids who are unfamiliar with the characters, to try to get them hooked. How can they not be drawn in by that cover? I'm giving a copy to a couple of young brothers on my block! Now, if every American on this forum would buy an extra copy of U$ 2 and give it to a neighbor child....

It was great to see that they still making new issues of the Uncle Scrooge magazine but I wonder if they will make new issues of other older series like Mickey Mouse and Friends, Donald Duck and Friends or Walt Disney's Comics and Stories? I think all these three series needs to come back. I don't think it's a bad idea to bring other series that were cancelled like Scamp or Chip 'n' Dale. Lars Jensen have wrote some Scamp stories that were published in Egmont magazines and it would be great to see some of the Lars Jensen's Scamp stories in English (I will be surprised if he read this message). There are Chip 'n' Dale stories that were made in Scandinavia countries, Italy, Netherlands and France and most of them were not translated in English. Maybe they will translate some of those Italian stories from the Italian series "Cip e Ciop". I wonder if Chi-Chi will be still called as Chi-Chi or her name will be different like calling her as Cindy (That's her Italian name). Same with Chattie Chipmunk too because she only appeared in one American story and I'm not sure if the American translators will recognize her and maybe they will give her a different name.

Nectaria, the IDW Disney comics will include the Core Four titles: Uncle Scrooge, Donald Duck (starts this month), Mickey Mouse (starts next month), and Walt Disney's Comics and Stories (starts July). Chip & Dale and Scamp could possibly show up in WDCS.

Well, I was also thinking that the CD stories and SC stories will show up in WDCS but I'm not sure if they will be the english translated versions of non-American stories. Maybe they will re-publish some of the old American stories with them instead.
I think that, right now there may be plans to do a mix of overseas and RARELY printed classic stuff for the WDC&S material that is not duck/mouse related. Nothing you'll have seen in Gladstone to Gemstone so that there aren't any overlaps.

For fairly obvious reasons, I have my doubts that we'll be seeing Little Hiawatha anytime soon. Can't say I'm broken up about it, either.

Haha! I getcha. But, thats the way its always been as this is the only book that allows the other characters and other stories that wouldnt fit the regular mold to shine and there really are good stories that exist with the extra characters.

That's okay because every fans have different tastes and opinions on an universe. The reason why I liked the BW/LW/TLP universe is because of Li'l Bad Wolf. Without him then most of the stories will be less interesting and more boring in my opinion. I always thought that the "BW's son befriended the TLP pigs" plot was very interesting. I like the Mice and Ducks stories but I also like other stories that aren't Mice and Ducks like CD, BR, LW/BW/TLP, JOC (I liked some of the Dutch stories but the Brazilian stories were much better), SC etc. Well, I'm not very interested in Bucky Bug and Little Hiawatha stories but there are some stories featuring them that I like. If they make more good stories with them then I will like their universes more than before.

Not all are proven sellers??that's very right. At Gemstone, it was a little hard to tell which minor characters actually helped "sell" the book. We did learn that Horace Horsecollar, Grandma Duck, and Li'l Bad Wolf are not marketable names??not enough average Americans actually know who they are.
Big Bad Wolf still has enough popularity to sell shirts and other merchandise for Disney. I felt very strongly that if the Wolf stories we ran were just consistently memorable enough??and advertised as Big Bad Wolf stories, even when they technically weren't??they could become a sales benefit, even if they hadn't been before.
The early Gemstone issues had been filled with a rather random selection of Wolf stories chosen in part by upper management when the license began. Starting with WDC&S 662, however, this backlog had run out, and we were able to strategically choose the Wolf stuff that we thought was the very best (hot tip: minimize "basic pig-catching scheme backfires" type of plotlines, though an occasional one is okay).
This led to the string of stories that I touched on in my comments on this GeoX blogpost. By the time we were a year into this, reviewers and random online voices were often excitedly commenting on the stories. So, yeah??there's absolutely hope for at least one minor character! Or there was in 2006, and there can be again.
