What I wonder is how they will draw the characters. Looking at Disney's current series, it may well be 2D. But will it be hand drawn? Let's hope they keep the Carl Barks spirit the original series had.
By the way, Disney Junior Eastern Europe airs the old Disney TV Animation series from th 80s since this fall.

Wooooow.
Bit... Will it be a reboot or a sequel? Because they say "reboot", but they talk about Launchpad McQuack, Mrs. Beakley, Poe andò the other characters from the old Ducktales.
I hope there'll be Fenthry Duck.

That is pretty cool. It's too bad we have to wait two years.

A DuckTales reboot? Funny how a few weeks ago I unintentionally turned the Uncle Scrooge topic into a topic about which voices should the characters have in animation, which characters should appear in a new series based on comics and which title should it have... and then I hear about a reboot of this old (1987-1990) series! I could have never expected that.
Anyway, we still have no info to tell how the series will be, but I hope this reboot will correct the mistakes of the original series.

The fact that they mention Barks in the press release, even if it is in reference to the old series, makes me smile.

Huge news. I know we shouldn't read too much into a press release, but they certainly mention Donald prominently, considering the miniscule role he had in the original series. Could it be they'll feature him in his rightful place this time around?
Also, if they're basically taking another whack at an animated version of Barks' universe, I personally would rather they not call it DuckTales again. I know that name carries a lot of nostalgia and the original series still has a huge fan following, but, for better or worse, a new series with the same name will invariably be compared to the old one and the editorial decisions made by that show. Given that these characters existed far before the original series, it's entirely avoidable. Maybe something like Duckburg, USA that has been mentioned on this forum before? I'm sure this is just a Barks/comic-fan more than DuckTales-fan's point of view, though.

^I think calling it DuckTales is just canny on their part. The kids who grew up on the original show are now old enough to have kids of their own in the right age range for a new version, which their parents will want to share. Although we Disney comics fans hold Barks and Rosa on a pedestal we're a small but dedicated bunch. DuckTales was iconic for a whole generation of kids. Besides, people will be led back to the comics because of new DuckTales just as they were with the old show. It was how I was first introduced to the characters.
... of course, I wouldn't mind them mining the comics for more material: Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck miniseries and/or movie!

I'd be really happy if Donald was in it, and if we got some good Barks and Rosa adaptations, but mostly I'm happy with anything as long as it's a good show... And as long as it's not CG.

What do you mean, IF Donald will be in the series? The announcement stated that Uncle Scrooge will be flying around The World on adventures with his nephews, Huey, Dewey and Louie, AND DONALD. That means that Donald will be a regular character accompanying Scrooge on his adventure trips. He was listed among the main characters, rather than among the secondary characters. Why would they LIE in the announcement of the new series? to get our hopes up, only to pull the rug out from under us later? I don't think they would do that. It seems they plan to right the wrong of the first series, and add Donald as a comic foil for Scrooge, as Launchpad ts too limited a character (and also has too grating a personality) to be used in so much of each episode in that role. I look forward to a more Barkslike mood, and more Barkslike scripts, with Donald joining the crew of main characters.

I'm not surprised that the new DuckTales series will be called DuckTales. In 1950 Disney released the animated film Cinderella...and this year's live-action remake is also titled Cinderella. In 1951 Disney released the animated film Alice In Wonderland...and the 2010 live-action version was also titled Alice In Wonderland. So.....another DuckTales.
The story from Entertainment Weekly magazine says that the new DuckTales series "will include appearances by Donald Duck" so apparently Donald will not be a regular character.

THIS announcement of the new series states that there will be "occaisional appearances" by Donald Duck". I don't appreciate people LYING to us, or being so incompetent as to not state exactly what the situation is regarding the planning of how Donald will be used. They should be competent enough to find out what the planning situation is at this point and state it that way (e.g. "The producers of this new series plan to include Donald Duck in some capacity, but to what extent is unknown at this time.") My hopes were raised for a good 18 minutes, and then crushed into the ground. Without Donald involved in the adventures the stories are not very Barkslike to me.

So, I'm unlikely to be able to see these on Disney XD, but I'm hopeful that I'll be able to see them somehow, eventually! My more immediate hope is that the warm-up to this will involve a DVD release of DuckTales vol 4 with the remaining episodes, including two of my faves, Ducky Mountain High and Trala La. Given that Disney just finally released the last of the TaleSpin episodes on DVD, I've been hopeful that completion of DuckTales and Darkwing would follow.
My main hopes for a DuckTales reboot: an occasional opportunity for Webby to shine (as she did in a couple of DuckTales *books* which were not based on episodes--guess they thought that *girls* were likely to read books!); one or two additional recurring female characters, perhaps including Launchpad's sister Loopy; and (speaking of voices in animation!) an *Italian* accent for Magica. I'm willing to accept that DuckTales is in a parallel universe to the comic book Duckburg, but Magica's Russian accent just drives me crazy. It even keeps me from re-watching one of the all-time best episodes, Raiders of the Lost Harp. If they wanted a Russian villain, they should have invented one. Magica is Italian, dammit! End of rant.

Ha!Ha! Maybe she was trained in the same school of villainy as Boris Badenov and Natasha? Of course, if we were supposed to think she was Italian, shouldn't Barks have given her a name with an ending vowel, and have her name start with an Italian article, such as "Di", rather than "De", (such as "Di Spelia")? Just because she has her domicile in Italy does NOT mean that she must be Italian. She is there as a witch to take advantage of the volcano of Mount Vesuvius. She could have been born and raised in Russia, and moved to Mount Vesuvius for her witchly purposes. I have dwelt in many lands as a foreigner. Barks did NOT give her an Italian accent, nor an Italian name. I don't believe he ever stated that she was an Itailan citizen, or even of Italian extraction (descent).
