I hope this series will take a little from DuckTales, but more from comics: less Jet McQuack and more Donald, let's see Flintheart Glomgold in the comics' version (there aren't political problems with South Africa, isn't it?) and characters such as Fenthry, Daisy, Grandma, Bridget!
About animation...
I think it'll be hand-drawn: if I shut up the TV in any cartoon channel, the cartoon there is is quite certainly handdrawn.

Quote from user: dkenny78How they handle the voice of Scrooge. I can't imagine that they would re-cast if Alan Young is still with us, but the demands of an entire series might be too much for him at his age. If he ultimately is not cast, do they hire a sound-alike (I would prefer not - I'd rather they just get another good actor who isn't desperately trying to imitate Young)?
I've had this in the back of my head for a long time, but I never really dared to bring it up. Alan Young is 95 right now - I know voice acting isn't as physical a profession as live-action acting, but you gotta admit there's a time to let people enjoy their old age. I think an entire series may be a little much to ask from him - you would also get the 'issue' of mid-series recasting in case he's not longer able to continue the role, and that's always a bit awkward.
What's the Scrooge connection? ;) Both his creator and his primary voice actor have neared the age of 100. (Go slowly, sands of time!)
I am all in favor of recasting Scrooge to someone who can give his own interpretation of the character. Scrooge allows that kind of flexibility because he originated in the comics, so I don't feel there's a need to imitate Clarence Nash / Walt Disney / Pinto Colvig.
And this goes for the entire series, actually. The last thing I would like to see is a redo of DuckTales. Reboot! Give me a new, fresh take on Duckburg!
This show could potentially be really great, but I don't have much hope. I'm going to guess the vast majority of (audience/executives/series producers) would only be looking to reinvent a nostalgic TV show (a la so very much of the past few years), with looking at Barks being a distant second.
I'd like to see a Duckburg series that took its inspiration from more contemporary, European stories, but that's never going to happen.
We should all just be very happy DuckTales doesn't reboot in a movie like Yogi Bear, or The Smurfs. <shudder>

You know, the upcoming Smurf movie seems to be headed the right way - back to the basics, aka Peyo.

You know, the Bulgarian voice of Scrooge did't sound much like Young, but it was still good. By the way, back then they used not only the regular dubbers (who are mostly theatrical actors with good voices), but also a lot of puppeteers. Even now the voice actor of Donald Duck is a puppeteer (who by the way works in my town).

I saw last night's episode of Gravity Falls, which featured a wonderfully atmospheric haunted mansion, a historic flashback, and a vengeful spirit turning people into wood. By the end of it I was thinking: yeah, this style could work with Scrooge.

I'm glad that DD is in this revamp of DuckTales...he seemed to have gotten the shaft on the 1st installment.
And yes, I have Donald Duck on a list called "16 Cartoon Characters who get the Shaft"!

Unfortunately, I don't think that's quite been established yet.

Well...Charlie Brown tops that list since he always gets rocks, loses baseball games, and never gets the Red-Hair Girl, but here's a link...

That list is for cartoon characters and excludes characters who appear only in comic strips. Otherwise it would include the mentally-challenged pig (named "Pig") from Stephen Pastis's Pearls Before Swine and Satchel the Canadian-born shar-pei from Darby Conley's Get Fuzzy.
This being a Disney fan site, I have to ask: Why isn't Magica De Spell on that list? "Rowr! Hiss! Spit!"

It is for animated Cartoons only, Magica...I don't see on the losing side...
I'll make a comic female character jerks of all time...Magica de Spell I see on that list, but Lucy van Pelt is #1. For Comic characters who get the shaft...Charlie Brown would still get #1 and I'd put Pig on there...for Comic Male Jerks...Rat from Pearls Before Swine would be on my list...

Magica De Spell appeared in eight DuckTales episodes. She was voiced by June Foray, who also voiced Rocky the Flying Squirrel and around ten million other characters. June is still alive. She's 97 and lives in Woodland Hills, California. Magica is obsessed with obtaining Scrooge's "number one dime." Actually, that dime probably wouldn't bring her any luck or wealth even if she could melt it and make an amulet out of it. But Magica has never been able to get the one thing she wants. Maybe "getting the shaft" is not the proper terminology here, but she certainly qualifies as a "loser."
And why did Boom Comics change Magica's "foof bombs" to "poof bombs"?

Okay, I'll be making a list of "Top-16 Villains" and "Top-16 Villainesses" in the near future. Magica will be on the Villainess list...maybe 8 or 7.

Sad news indeed. I understand about Scrooge and Magica (whose voice actors are 95 and 97 respectively). However, I was hoping at least some of the actors could return - Terry McGovern, Frank Welker, Russi Taylor.
