After one month spent lurking and downloading archives, I think it's about
time to post my first message to the list. First of all, a couple of
questions:

1 (mostly to the other Italian members, but...) Regarding the Editrice
ComicArt "Gertie Daily" reprints of Floyd Gottfredson's strips: are they in
English? (If the answer is yes, as I hope, then the question may be of
interest to non-Italian members too!)

2 I think someone touched on the same topic some days ago, but - how many
people
are currently on the list, and from what countries? I've read some
statistics
in (very) old digests, and I'm curious to know the current standings...

...then, a humble request to Luca Boschi: I'm going - hopefully - to be in
Lucca
on October 31st , so, could I have one of those passes?

...finally, my introduc(k)tion... In order to make it less boring, I'm going
to
present it together with a template of the "average" Disney-comics lover.
("Average" according to my experience, of course; after reading the other
Introduc(k)tions available, however, I'm inclined to think that such
template applies mostly to Mediterranean Disney-comics lovers. I wonder
why.) Here it
goes.

PRE-HISTORY
The Disney-comics lover (DCL) learns to read on Disney Comics, either coming

from his/her parents' collection (lucky DCL) or bought specifically for the
purpose (not-so-lucky DCL).
ME: Born in Genoa in 1964, as a not-so-lucky DCL.

ANCIENT HISTORY
The DCL starts his own collection of Disney Comics, buying them every
week/month, reading them avidly and re-reading them a number of times.
ME: My collection was mainly composed of Topolino issues starting from 1968.

The fact that I'm a not-so-lucky DCL is stressed by the comparatively poor
quality of the stories published in Italy at that time (and Carl Barks had
just retired - what a timing...).

EPIPHANIES
Actually, they're part of the Ancient History period: the DCL comes face to
face with some really great stories (most likely, Barks and/or Gottfredson),

and his destiny is marked forever. In fact, that's the moment the DCL is
born
as such.
ME: Italian members surely know very well the Oscar Mondadori books "Vita e
Dollari di P.d.P" and "Trilogia di Topolino"! For the others, it's enough to

tell that the first contained (among others) "Only a Poor Old Man", and the
second (among others) "MM Outwits the Phantom Blot"...

DARK AGES
Very sad period... The DCL decides (or is maliciously convinced by false
friends)
he's too grownup for Disney Comics. Catastrophe can also strike, in the
form
of parents giving (or throwing!) away the collection. The period usually
lasts
a number of years, during which the DCL devotes himself to minor tasks -
completing his/her studies, finding a job, getting married and so on. Every
now
and then, nostalgia takes hold and some re-reading is performed, just to
keep
the flame burning...
ME: My dark ages began in 1975, right after issue 1,000 of Topolino.
Luckily,
I managed to preserve most of my collection - which means my two-year-old
son
is going to be a lucky DCL! In the meantime, I've become an electronic
engineer, working in the field of Postal Service Automation, and I got
married, too.

RENAISSANCE
A seemingly unimportant event starts the chain reaction, and FUT! the DCL is

back. This time, however, the approach is more scientific - that is, the DCL

has the usual amount of fun in reading the stories, but finds also pleasure
in cataloguing them and recognizing the authors' styles.
ME: "Galeotto fu il libro...", and (some of?) those who wrote that book are
actually members of this ML! "I Disney Italiani" is the book that got me
hooked again, back in 1992. Thanks again, authors! (And thanks to Don Rosa,
too. If it were not for you, I would have probably limited my interests to
the stuff produced up to the early seventies, but your stories forced me to
widen my horizons - something I don't regret at all!)

MODERN TIMES (...not in the Chaplin sense, of course...)
The DCL, who has been a bit self-conscious about his renewed passion so far
(a legacy of the Dark Ages), suddenly realizes he's not alone - there's a
whole community of DCLs out there! And they live happily ever after...
ME: ...as I'm thanking people, I won't forget the creators and maintainers
of
the ML and the DcD...

Whew! I hope it wasn't boring - for sure, it was not short... Does anyone
recognize him/herself in the above profile? If you think that's off-topic

Hello, everyone! I just wanted to say I'm sorry for being absent from the list for so
long! I've been very busy with school. Now that mid-terms are past, perhaps I'll have
more time. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to read the last few weeks' worth of
digests, so I can't really respond to anything that's been said.

So, in short, I'm still alive and well, just busy!

Oh, and to all those who told me about the online auctions at eBay, thanks! I've gotten
some wonderful items from them! My username there is goldie1898 (of course ;-) so if you
see that name around, you know who it is.

Hello again
As I told in my repport about a Hungary-trip
(sorry for the outlook of that... I crossed the
magic line, which you can see, I'm trying not
to do again!!!) I am wondering about some
charecters in a who's who game...
My uncle help me scan 5 of the cards, which
I can send to anybody interested in helping...
The cards show: Brigitta McBridge, Ludwig
von Drake our longlost friend (His called
Glongold, maybe a mistake), Daisy's
super-hero alias (a competitant to Super-
duck, paperinik) Glomgold and this strange
guy:
He looks like some kinda mayor from Duck-
burg (I just thought that all mayors in Duckburg
where dogs or pigs, and the judges are owls...)
He's got one hand under the jacket (Napoleon-like)
And he's got beard... thinking about it, it might
be the charecter from "Of duck and dimes and
destinies" (hope *I* got the tittle right, indifferent
from the publisher, Egmont maybe) The one who
was in Denmark called H.C. And (After the famous
fairy-tale-teller Hans Christian Andersen).
In a chapter from Lo$ I think he was shown to be
Rockerducks father.. BUT I'm not saying it's him,
and I don't understand what he has to do there, as
there are not any other Rosa-drawings...
Well, I hope you read this, and that you can help me,
so I won't have to send it out (101 KB!) before you ask
for it (btw, *sorry*, Ole!!!)

The sentance and the situation in which it is said, is just so fun and
indiscribibable (hmm, spelling!) that i cannot get it outa my head!

The first publication of this story in France. A quite odd story (did

But the editors of Picsou are more in the "American" tradition (DD and
MM living in the same city (?)) than the Italian one (2 different cities
for mice and ducks).

You're right. But this is also an hommage to Romano Scarpa. They
originally planned to publish Shangri-la, but I'm not sure they will do
it after all (a pity - I'd love to see this story).

Also, they haven't printed Brigaboom or the other "strips" stories.

I listed all MP issues up to the last one from August, but the index of
French issues is no more in Harry's Bolderbast site (space problem
mebbe), so you can only get trhe index in Per's site, but the version is
a bit old. The last indexed issue is #213 actually.

If some of you here are interested I can send them the most recent index
of Picsou and Mickey-Parade this week-end.

Hello again!
Think I found out that the guy was Howard
Rockerduck (or whatever you call him). But
Whta was his name in the first story in which
he appeared (of D and D and D)? As told we
called him a duckburgian-style name of an author,
did they do so in US too? who was the charecter
supposed to be in the original? Some american, I
s'pose, but who?
The drawing with him holding his hand under the
coat, is not seen anywhere else (in my knowing...)
but the rest of the suit is excactly the same as
his looks in the Montana-cobber-king story.
Well, guess I once againsolved my own question with
that exception that I would like to know who he is...

Of course nobody should, but I didn't see Don write that, did he?

I am not upset that people get mad at Gladstone... If they have a
reason,
it's ok for them to be mad at Gladstone... it's okay if you'll be mad at
me too.

But it's one thing to get angry... A completely different thing to rant
and
accuse them wrongfully for things they aren't guilty of... Especially
in that tone of voice. (script?)

No, there has been (I think many) Australian comics in Australia. I've
