attending the San Diego Con. I'll be there from Wednesday afternoon through
early Sunday morning. Several other noteworthy American Disney comics fans
will also be attending, including Joe Torcivia, Dana Gabbard (THE DUCKBURG
TIMES), and Brent Swanson. If you see us, be sure to say howdy.
Regarding Strobl's "best stories": don't forget "Donald Duck in Mathemagic
Land," which was reprinted by Gladstone in the mid-90's. A longstanding
favorite of mine.

I think in these stories the only sensible choice of currency is the local
currency of the scene of the story. This was really my original point. When

at the very earliest the story took place in 1972, five years after Uncle
Scrooge's death! Was this simply a not completely thought out statement?

*Everything* in my stories is completely thought out at a great loss of time and money and marbles. Actually, we've been over this several times in this Digest in detail, apparently before you joined, and I also wrote of it in detail in my notes in the various Gladstone editions of the "Lo$", which you must have missed. So excuse me if I abbreviate the matter here....
Barks first thought of using the Money Bin in that 1952 story, and at that time Donald naturally says that it is "new" -- Barks had just invented the (classic) idea so he's speaking of it through Donald. But whenever he had $crooge mention the Bin after that, he spoke of it as having been on the site for many years. In fact, in one story, I think it was that back-up story in U$ where he has to move the Bin out of the way of various civic developments, $crooge states that the bin had been on the site for 75 years or something... meaning that it would have had to been built around 1880. This is going too far in the other direction... that was before even Barks said $crooge had any money to put *into* a Bin. So I picked a time in between the two contradictory statements that I thought was logical -- a time shortly after $crooge would have made his first big money in the Yukon and also run a bank afterwards in Whitehorse (both Barksian facts).
Therefore, my Croesus story did not take place in the 70's, but sometime in the 50's as do all my others. And there are several clues in that story, itself. Again, forgive me for not checking the story, but in one such clue, I have $crooge (at least in my original script) claiming to have gotten a digging permit "50 years earlier" from a certain Sultan.... and it was the Sultan who was actually in power in the early 1900s. Again, every fact carefully thought out, even though it is used as a tossed-off comment that few, if any, readers will pay any attention to.

as it has be done for all the Marvel superheroes ??

weapon : the sting-stinginess...

He will send us an unluckier spell and a banana skin. Gasp!
But this is impossible because who is the publisher who
would accept to print a Disney death story ?

Thanks a lot for your explaining, Don (I can breath now! :-) ). Now I
realize that there have been already severals deaths of characters in LO$:
Fergus McDuck & wife, the implicit deaths of McDuck's ancestors, and there
is even a dreamed-death of Scroge in part 5 when he's dropped from the
castle tower during a storm. (I think the panel in which Fergus, wife and
Sir Quackly pass through the wall and leave the body of Fergus lying on the
bed is really emotioning).
BTW: Whatever happened to Jake McDuck? He last appeared in LO$ part 7 'Gold
seeker in the Kalgoorlie Gold Rush', and is never seen after. Maybe have I
miss some episode?

More questions come to my mind: is Scrooge died, what died he from? And did
he go to Heaven or Hell? (there are reasons for both!) And there is another
more fact: at Scrooge's dying, Donald inherits his whole fortune, and so
becomes the world's richest duck. Taking into account that Donald is
nowadays 65, maybe he has dead too and the fortune has passed to HDL? What
an injustice! Died when he has had not enough time to spend his money! :-)))

Of course it would depend greatly on duck universe's religion. But doesn't
he go to play golf with his ancestors on the clouds in Rosa universe.

Barks-universe, but it doesn't stop from discussing).
