Nils Lid Hjort:

| PS: I note when looking at the Inducks' OS 1190, "Donald and the Wheel",
| which is similar in spirit to the Mathmagic one, that this Wheel story
| is listed as having been published in Sweden 1963 and Denmark 1964,

Yup. It was. I've got a copy.

Denmark 1984 was in a jubilee-big book (Not equal to the one published in
1974)
It seems, that the story was published in 12 pages, but in six-tier format,
and this
makes the long stories (eg. barks 30-pages) look short, maybe pages, or as
here 12.
I don't think the story is shortened... On the other hand, i don't have an
idea how to
find the book...

The Norwegian part of the inducsk isn't very complete, I think. I'm not
sure there
even is a maintainer for the norwegian part... But it would be natural if
the story you
mention was published in all Scandinavia in those years. here it was in a
WD presents.

This story was even mentioned in my science/math-book in High School!

I'm glad to hear that.

That is in a "big white book" which changed format. Note that the
inducks says it has five-tier pages!

The Norwegian part of the Inducks is still way behind the Danish and
Swedish parts. Those books are just not indexed yet. A roundabout
way for Norwegians to use the Inducks would be to look up Danish and
Swedish info, and then look up the corresponding Norwegian issues (and
issues shortly before and after them). Once upon a time I had a short
sheet giving approximate corresponding issues for the Danish, Swedish
and Norwegian main titles, but I can't find it now, unfortunately.

To all Italian members of this list,

I also would like to trade for either cash or comics an issue of your
comics from Italy. Thank you in advance for all of your help.

Are there any Disney comics published in Britain at all? If so, how do you
contact them?

All the talk about this story made me want to read it again.
The full 30-page version was in DD Adventures #26 (from
June 1994). I remember watching the cartoon version in
class when I was young, but my memories of it are very dim.
Does anyone know if copies of it are available anywhere?

DD in Mathmagic land has (so far) been printes twice in Norway: Firstly as
a one-shot like several people allready have told us, but also in one of
our books, "Donald den store", from 1984.
The film, Donald in Mathmagicland came June 26th 1959, and was a
featurette, running 28 min, and directed by Hamilton Luske. Donald explores
Mathmagic Land - a fantasy land composed of square root trees and a stream
running with numbers. The Spirit of Adventure teaches him the many uses of
mathematics in art, architecture and nature as well as chess and sports
like football. Donald is introduced to the circle and the triangle, which
have been the basis for many great inventions such as the telescope and
airplane, and he is shown that mathematical thinking opens the doors to the
future. This thoughtful Academy Award-nominated short ends with Galileos
quotation: "Mathmagic is the alphabet in which God wrote the universe." It
was made with the collaboration of such people as Disney artists John Hench
and Art Riley, voice talent Paul Frees, and scientific expert Heinz Haber,
who had worked on the Disney space shows. Originally released on a bill
with "Darby O Gill and the Little People". Two years later it had the honor
of being introduced by Ludwig Von Drake and shown on the first programme of
Walt Disneys Wonderful World of Color. This is probably why the comic had a
reprint so quickly after the first issue. The film was made avaiable to
schools and became one of the most popular educatonal films ever made by
Disney. As Walt Disney explained, "The cartoon is a good medium to
stimulate interests. We have recently explained mathemathics in a film and
in that way excited public interests in this very important subject." DD in
Mathmagic land was relased on video in the US in 1988.

The most annoying is that the start of their quote is as follows:

I wonder how people who can't read ended up on this list anyway?

Steven & Stefan:

There are some Disney-comics in the UK, but they are really childish
(pre-school), and have hardly any stories as such in them.

Apparently one of the most discussed subjects on this list :-)

Here is something else though: I was contacted a month ago by Raptus
Comics Festival in Bergen, Norway who was interested in inviting a "Duck
Lady" as they put it--and the suggested artist was Laura Bozzano, which
sounds like an interesting choice.

Does anyone know of this event and when it will be held?
