MAD magazine is reprinting the old 50ies issues in a
special series, "Tales calculated to drive you MAD". This
fall issue, no. 7, has the famous Mickey Mouse spoof
"Mickey Rodent", with the final showdown between
Mickey Rodent and Darnold Duck with a cast of - of
some more. Artist is Bill Elder. Very funny!! (And an
extra bonus - it is in colour!)

(And for those in Oslo - I got the issue at Narvesen in
Klingenberggaten. The rest of you are on your own!)

Good to read the accounts here of Janne Heino and Jyrki Vainio
about Don Rosa's splendidly successful Finnish week.
Don briefly visited Oslo on his way home, being interviewed
by various parties and tending to some business-related
matters, and he showed me his random collection of newspaper
clippings and so on. Based on these (Exhibits A-Z...) and his
still modest recounting of various events in Helsinki,
Turku and Tampere I must be allowed to attempt summing
it all up using words like astounding, flabbergasting, rockstarian,
hyperbolean, Goedelian, Askeladdean, megajippoean, and,
perhaps more relevantly and importantly, bestsellerian.
An enormous number of

must have been sold already. Literally thousands of them have
been signed in person by Don at various bookstores and so on.
Another emailing informant ventured "15.000 the first day"?
And then there is the Christmas gift season to come shortly.

The book is published by Helsinki Media/Sarjakuvat and has
192 pages. (Your local bookstore should be able to order it
for you, if you live in a civilised country; its ISBN number
is 951-32-0702-1.) In addition to "The Quest for Kalevala",
Don's new 33-page story, it has nine more stories from
1986, 1987, 1988 and 1990. Apparently, "The Son of the Sun",
"Nobody's Business", "Recalled Wreck" and "Cash Flow" have not
been published in Finnish before.

The Kalevala story is appearing in Norway, Denmark and Sweden quite
soon, in #48, 49, 50, while it is scheduled for #1/2000 in Germany.

I am quite curious about other readers' reactions to the Kalevala
story, both Finnish and others. But perhaps one should postpone
discussing this in this particular literary forum until at least
the Scandinavians have had a chance to read it.

Evert Geradts is a Dutch writer who did thousands of Disney comics for
Holland.
Apparently he is part of a studio that has its own website. Have a look at:

I've donated several Disney comics and scripts that I've written to a
Seattle-area cartoonist club (Cartoonists Northwest.) The first of these
items are now being auctioned on eBay at:

Both of the comics are drawn by William Van Horn. One is autographed by him
and both are autographed by me. The script for "It's Bats, Man" is an
original and not a photocopy and has a page of sketches I did for some
background gags most of which didn't make it into the finished story. (It's
pretty rare for me to sketch anything. You'll see why if you buy the script.)

If you end up with the winning bid then let the person who's handling the
sale know that you're a member of this mailing list. I've asked him to
include a little something extra for members of this list.

The Ebay bid page includes a link to Cartoonists Northwest's web site. It's
worth checking out.

Fortunately, I came in Kukunor an hour before Don, so the queue was just
twenty-thirty meters long (probably most of the people went to Sokos and
Koskikeskus). Well, actually I should have come earlier anyway, because Don
stopped giving inscriptions just a few people before me.

Actually "Nobody's Business" and "Recalled Wreck" have been published. In
addition to TSotS and CF, "Treasure under Glass" was't published here before.

By the way, do other countries have these kinds of Rosa-compilations, or do
most of the fans in other countries miss all the fore words?

On the other hand, (Helsinki Media haven't wanted to make us Finns too
happy or something) both of our Barks-compilations are somewhat stuck or
narrow.

And to Don:

Since almost all of the newspapers mentioned your plans of becoming the
predent of Finland, your campaing got a nice jump start. It shoud take only
little effort to covert all the usual "Aku Ankka" -votes to Rosa-votes.
We'll just have to reinstate the death penalty for all who remind that the
Finnish president should have born in Finland.

In the last issue of the Swedish Kalle Anka & C:o (47/99), there was an
advertisment telling that part 1 of this story will be published in Kalle
Anka & C:o 48/99. I guess it will also be published in Norway in the same
issue, as the stories normally does.

It's going to be published in issue 49-51, it says on the duckhunt, and
Nils told us too.

it's own weekly... but it's the same concept, a duck weekly

It is 3 norwegian comics... We don't have the expression comic book. If
we had it would mean the finnish one, which is a hardbound book with
comics.

Tell him to buy the Weekly from now till new year. and then when it
says in the next week-ad on the back that it'll be out, he will have to

Where? cause I don't understand what it says on that page in the book.
it tells that some have been in your weekly. What are the other mags? I
can't imagine any of them has been published in the first (orange)
rosa-book?

Many countries had the Lo$-book. all in the northern countries. USA, a
6-volume series in germany. and the book has been poublished in turkey
too I think.
I hoped for one this year, but no luck... I'm crossing my fingers.

Well, we had a Lo$ book two years ago, and the mickey book last year.
Our annual Barks-book wasn't narrowd because of that.

This is correct. I guess they maybe censorred the worst examples of
beautiful women, cause there are paeople all over in that story, and

The US issues are correct. The Australian reprints must be missing pages!
