Hi all,

just a short note that Don's "3 Caballeros" is being printed in the German
weekly Micky Maus - first part in the stores this Thursday (but as a lucky
subscriber I'm ahead a few days...)

:-)
Must confess that the little background details stretching over several
panels were fun and after a long time gave me the feeling of exploring a comic
masterpiece again - reading it several times and finding a new detail every
time...

Which reminds me: this week, issue #105 of the Dutch series "De Beste
Verhalen" was published. (It's the Dutch "Carl Barks Library in Color", if
you want. Issue #1 was released in 1975. Until the American CBL appeared, it
was the best Barks collection in the world...)
On the inside front, there is a short notice about the fact that Barks died.
They printed a drawing that Daan Jippes made a few years ago (1994 I think),
showing Barks leaving the room, while his footprints are in the shape of
duck feet. The accompanying text is: "Carl Barks 1901 - 2000. But he will
leave his marks for a long time" (*).
Quite an appropriate drawing, even if Jippes didn't draw it for this
occasion.

A question to the members of the list:
Does anyone know any special kind of glue which's chemical synthesis
doesn't hurt the paper of original artwork?

Well, first and foremost, welcome to this list, Jon. I am Spanish (from
Madrid) and I'm sorry to tell you it's been several years ago that they
stopped publishing Disney comics here. The only way to get some is to search
around old-book shops, or you may lurk in the internet newsgroups, etc, to
find someone to sell his old collection (sometimes you can success).

The classic Disney stories (Barks, Murry, Strobol, Scarpa, Cavazzano, etc)
were translated into Spanish from the 50's until the 80's in several
collections, but they are out of sell now. The most recent publication I've
seen was Don Rosa's LO$ in 1997, which surprisingly selled off in few
months, and I haven't been able to find even a single issue since then. :-(

If a magazine with the circulation and distribution of TV Guide, which is
available practically everywhere and almost everyone who owns a TV buys
a copy each week, costs $2.50, how much do comic books cost over there,
and how much would they have to charge for the less popular Disney comics
if they ever managed to get the license to produce them?

(If memory doesn't fail me, when I was in the US 10 years ago, TV guide
cost less that a dollar.)

You can use wheat starch or CMC (carboxy methyl cellulose).
They are both water soluble and are widely used in paper conservation.
Where you get it I don't know as I threw away all my catalogues before I
last moved (I do stupid things now as I need them too). Possibly a good art
shop might have them or could order it for you.
The are both water soluble and can easily be removed if something goes wrong
(e.g. bad storage in high humidity).
