I know that Don Rosa is only thinking about it, but this is the
ultimate Yukon story that I have been waiting for him to do ever since he mentioned
its possibility two years ago. I cannot wait! Unfortunately, I'm going to have
to wait since it will take awhile for the story to be published in America.
However, if he does get started on it soon, then maybe Gemstone can incorporate
this ultra-special series addition in their upcoming "Life of Scrooge"
collection, whenever that comes out (probably late next year, I imagine). Mr. Rosa,
I wish you all the luck with this one!!!!!

I bought a DVD of Disney's "The Three Musketeers" starring Mickey,
Donald, and Goofy a few days ago. Inside was the usual small booklet
promoting other upcoming Disney movies, CDs, etc. But then I saw
something very *unusual*. Near the end of the booklet is a page with
an order form for Gemstone Disney comics! I about fell off of my
couch! :) Now I am not saying that this will be a big deal in the
long run, however it was great to see *any* promotion of Disney comics
in the USA, let alone one that will get to *millions* of people. So a
hearty congratulations to Gemstone for getting this accomplished!

As I watched the movie I saw why this movie would be especially
appropriate for including a Gemstone order form. The narrator (a
turtle) begins telling the story by reading out of a comic book. And
when the film ends, the credits are given in a comic book format. I
noticed that the comic book the turtle is reading is priced 25 cents.
So, Gary, do we have any 25 cent comics books from Gemstone to look
forward to in the near future? :)

A couple other things of interest. The villain of the story is
Pete. What surprised me was that he had his peg-leg. I am surprised
that Disney did not think having a peg-leg was too politically
incorrect these days.

Pete's henchmen are 3 rather nondescript characters wearing dark
robes and masks. While watching the credits I saw that these 3
characters are supposed to be the Beagle Boys! That surprised me as
other than the Beagle Boys like mask they didn't look much like the
Boys, at least to me.

A drop in sales this month, but it seems everyone's sales were down in July
for some reason.

Goscinny and Uderzo made wonderful Asterix stories together.

Do you think you could work like them (writer and artist in close cooperation)?
I know this is not the way most Disney stories are created, since with Disney stories, writers and artists usually never meet. So it's a rather hypothetical question: if you could work closely together as a writer, with an artist whom you often meet, would that work?

Really? Yes, I think I see that being demonstrated by Riku's hand gesture
there at the restaurant.
(In Finland that gesture only means "Hi Mom!" or something. Probably. I
hope.)

Yes, that's a *very* hypothetical question. I've never even known any other
cartoonists, either writer or artists. Yes, a few times a year I will meet
some briefly at a convention, but even at those shows and fairs I never
"hang out" with other "professionals" -- I only associate with the
collectors and dealers like I always have for 35+ years. So, I have no
experience dealing with another cartoonist. If I had ever planned to do this
for a living, I might've had some sorts of experiences along those lines.
But if there was a comics artist that I somehow knew *very* well, who shared
all of my philosophies of what makes an enjoyable comic story, shared all my
personal views of Barks' Ducks, was willing to put as much extra effort as I
do into the art above-and-beyond-the-pay-rate, and whom I could see
virtually every day for close cooperation, in person... if, if, if... yeah,
I think I could write stories for that artist with nice results. But that
situation can never happen. Who's gonna search out such a person and force
him to move to Jeffersontown, Kentucky? Maybe Dan Shane can start brushing
up on his drawing skills.
But the resultant comic would *still* lack that extra little sparkle of
being written and drawn by a single mind.
