Quote from user: ole damgaardQuote from user: PaperOleBut do we crave for a local language edition of the Carl Barks Collection, the Floyd Gottfredson Goodies or the Luciano Bottaro Big Whoop?
Nope. I would be more than happy to spend some of the money I didn't spend on Carl Barks' Samlede Værker, on e.g. a Bottaro or Scarpa library of some kind.
Let's go and talk to the british publisher right away...
I'd vote for the Scarpa Library!

A Scarpa Library already exists? Is it only in Italian? If so, I'd like to have it printed in English or Dutch (or, at least Spanish)!

No need to bow your head in shame; it's easy to misread or misunderstand a post when you happen to be in a hurry reading it.
But apologizing and then editing the first post makes others feel stupid! (I only realized what you meant from Robb_K's quoting.)
Can we please abstain from retconning posts, no matter how much better we think we could have said it later?

Quote from user: PaoloWould you believe it? [Disney Mirror's Gottfredson stories] weren't in their original language, but were just a re-translation back into English from the Italian reprint of Il Messaggero (http://coa.inducks.org/publication.php/x/it/MESS)...
Er??really?! I have a mostly complete run of those Disney Mirrors, and every issue I've got uses the original English, not a re-translation. Even rare stories like "The Great Orphanage Robbery" appear with the original text, albeit often rather heavily censored.

It would be nice to see Gemstone publish some lengthy stories (like those from the Italians of the 50s and 60s) in the US publication of UNCLE SCROOGE. Most current stories are less than 25 pages.

Gottfredson stories are very rare in Sweden. They were printed in the 70's but basically nothing since then. I think it's about time that you introduce the other swedes to his masterpieces, but that's not likely to happen for a long time. Scarpa stories is a bit more common. Some of his older stories has been published in for example Norway but the publishers have forgotten Sweden *sigh*.

It is quite incredible to think that many Gottfredson classics have not been published in the US and in many other countries, while thousands of other Mickey stories (by less talented people, for most of them) have been published...
In France, some Gottfredson stories have been reprinted recently, but some stories (like An Education for Thursday, The Miracle Master) have never been published, except in very old, heavily changed versions. Best countries for Gottfredson may be Italy and Netherlands.

Well, I'd be glad if we have a Disney Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck comic published here.

Unfortunately, I don't believe there's enough market to warrant it. They were selling barely 5,000 from mail order and 5,000 at newstands of ther BEST selling magazines. I'm not even sure "Uncle Scrooge" and "Walt Disney's Comics and Stories" are selling that much. That is extremely poor for a nation of approximately 300 million people. How many people does Canada have now? - 35 million? Much as I hate to admit it, Canada has a culture similar enough to that of the USA, that a similar sales per population figure would be likely, without a better marketing system than is used in USA. That would result in sales (1,050) too low to cover administration costs for a publisher. It's a lot easier to just import US English issues, and French issues than to have a local publisher.
We didn't have a Canadian publisher when they were selling 3 million "Walt Disney's Comics and Stories" every month in USA, and every Canadian kid I knew was reading comics! Why should they have one now, when almost no kids in a country of 300 million are buying them? They sold the US Disney comics in drugstores and grocerystores in Canada when I was a child, just as they did then in USA. Now they are sold in USA and in Canada only in Comic Book specialty shops, and can be bought online or by mail directly from Gemstone (just as from USA)-as long as one changes money to US Dollars (lousy deal!).
Unfortunately, with global warming to get worse and worse, and deserts spreading into the heart of USA, a lot of people will be moving north to Canada. And then, there might be enough market to warrent a Canadian publisher. But, let's just hope people will still be reading Disney, and more importantly, that Canada will remain Canada, and not get taken over by The USA!

Quote from user: PaoloQuote from user: Steamboat Williewe will never see a complete Disney collection.
Don't know about your frre space in bookshelves, but a "complete Disney collection" with all daily strips & sunday pages would require too much space for my preferences! ;-)
- Paolo (just kiddin')
It shouldn't take up more than CBL? OR would it? Remember, it's just about 60 years worth of two different comics and the perhaps 20 years of the others combined... :-)

So, at 3 rows (strips) per page, that would be 15,000 comics pages for the dailies, and 10,000 pages of Sundays. A total of 25,000 pages. i'd be happy with just 1929 through 1955 (end of the continuing story era).

So approximately only 10 volumes of 2,500 pages each.
For that matter, other Disney comics would be 120,000 pages in total so just about 48 other volumes.
