Why? Because Polish Egmont have published only ten-pagers. The only exceptions were
- "Micro-Ducks from Outer Space"
- "Maharajah Donald"
- "Vacation Time"
And Polish Egmont seems to think that Barks best creations were ten-pagers... They published "The Lost Peg Leg Mine" last Wednesday and I can't see the contures! They are so tiny... Unfortunately I don't have a scanner, so I can't show it.
Poland need long Barks' comics - personally speaking I'd be glad to see "Lost in the Andes" and "Only a poor old man" - but it isn't possible, because our "Kaczor Donald" is a tiny, 48-pages length comic book, and it contains maximum 32 pages of comic. :(
Once upon a time I read an index of Italian "I grandi classici Disney" - it looks like intressting - since Scarpa, Battista Carpi and some other classic Italian artist are not "well-treated" in my Country.
I read "Mickey Mouse and the Seven Ghosts" and it immediately became my favourite story. Gottfredson's works in Poland are in 100% two (or one)-pages lenght fillers...
But there are a lot of other forgotten Mickey Mouse artist - Egmont published only a few (for example) Murry's comics (and they were only eight-pages length stories)... His works are really intressting!
"Kaczor Donald" is a comic book for children. Noone in Egmont doesn't want to fix it up - our new editor-in-chief (Mr. Grzegorz Rutke) is a Don Rosa's fan, and is probably the best "Kaczor Donald" editor, but IMHO he should do a total revolution in Egmont - he know who is Scarpa, who is Barks and who is Rosa, etc. He publishes from time to time their comics, but it's hard to do - "Kaczor Donald" is done with cooproduction with other "Egmont" Countries.
And about the "Hall of Fame" books. In Poland they are published as "Kaczogród" - Kaczogród is the name of Duckburg in Polish... And the last one (the fourth) was published two years ago (in addition they were printed on a smaller format than for example in Norway). They were absolutely the best Egmont publications, and I'd be the happiest person on Earth to see more of them. I know that Mr. Rutke wants to publish Marco Rota's book in 2009 :)... And I hope that it won't be the end of HoF in Poland :)
MS....- Are you Maciek, who used to post on DCML? If so, congratulations on being a moderator on the Polish Disney Forum. I'd like to read it, but, unfortunately I only know a handful of words from Slavic languages, so any attempt would be futile. But, on the surface, it looks like an interesting forum.

There's nothing I want more than this. A definitive hardcover chronological Rosa library, printed uncensored in its original language, with tons of texts, covers, bonus illustrations, sketches, etc.

I think it's been looong overdue. I imagine it would sell well worldwide too.

I flipped when I saw the first volume listed on Amazon, I'm incredibly hopeful that the series will be published.

Other than that, I'm happy with what Gemstone is providing-- aside from the odd slipups of not printing Rosa covers with Rosa stories when they're available.

I'm very happy that Guardians of the Lost Library is getting a reprint soon, with the pinup art on the cover. Perfect! My copy of that story is in tatters with no cover. :)

I love the Barks/Rosa collections. I imagine the one I'm most looking forward to is the last one they'll print: the Plain Awful stories. The only copy I have of Lost in the Andes is DDA #3!

Not true. Rosa will be complete in the Skandinavian Hall of fame series once "Don Rosa Book 9" and "Don Rosa Book 10" is released.

I'm trying to cope with the realization that Gemstone will no longer publish Uncle Scrooge material of any kind?I've been rather depressed about it actually. (I felt the same way when I first heard that Don Rosa had quit.) The recent demise of U.S. production has I believe been inevitable?and this time it could be forever.

It was a different landscape 22 years ago when Gladstone so heroically reanimated the Ducks for us Barksian-Americans. But more so now than then the interest in the Duck comics of a dwindling generation has no place within the high-speed, high-tech world of computer games and iPods of today's typical youth. My kids are 13 and 11. They do read my Uncle Scrooge comics, mostly if I coax them. But they could take them or leave them. My 13-year-old in particular now would rather jump on the computer and occupy herself with her Face-book page. So it is in America. I don't know about the stronger-Duck-indoctrinated European youths?perhaps it's only a matter of time for them as well...

There has been a distinct decline in Germany too, though not as dramatic as in the U.S. yet. The German weekly nowadays sells only about a third of what it used to sell some twenty years ago. It is still one of the best-selling kiddie magazines around, however.

I hope another company will produce Disney Comics too if Gemstone doesn't resume publication.
