They're not really a throwback... I know, because they have been printed in Holland and I got 2 out of the 3. It's just Mickey and Donald travelling around the globe without a penny on them.

Hello everyone! I've only been reading them for a few months, but I was drawn into the Disney fandom like a speck of iron filling to a magnet, thanks to Uncle Scrooge comics. Or more specifically, Don Rosa's Life and Times of Scrooge Mcduck and am currently awaiting the Companion HC from Boom Studios. Other than Scrooge, my favourite ducks are Donald, his nephews and Darkwing Duck.

I was sailing on the site and... oh-oh! I have never introduce myself here!
Well, my name's Simone and I'm an Italian fan of Disney things (comics, and cartoons expecially).
I'm a reader of Italian and also American Disney issues and I like many "ancient" artist as Romano Scarpa, Walt Kelly, Floyd Gottfredson, Carl Barks, Luciano Gatto, Manuel Gonzales, Al Taliaferro, Ward Kimball, Guido Martina, Federico Pedrocchi, William Ward, Wilfred Haughton and... David Gerstein (he isn't ancient... I know).
I do also like modern artist as "Casty", William and Noel Van Horn, Cesar Ferioli, Corrado Mastantuono, Massimo DeVita and Giorgio Cavazzano.
I like drawing, actually in 2008, I've invented a character (non related to Disney) who is called Cincinnati Cinerford and I think I'll publish some its strips on my Blog.
Oh yes... I have a Blog Daily War Drum!
In it, you can find some articles about my Disney researches and interviews with Diney authors (some are in Italian, some in English).

Happy New Year everyone! I just discovered this site. I'm a long time, female, Duck fan hailing from Pennsylvania. My Duck love originally comes from two sources, my mother - who loved Scrooge growing up and bought me my first Scrooge comic (which just happened to be "Son of the Sun," who knew back then right?) and the Ducktales TV show that inspired me to try the original comics. I am a big lover of Barks and Rosa's stuff. I had a chance to meet Rosa back in 2007 and have some good convention stories to share over in that thread sometime. I also enjoy the work of Pat & Shelly Block (who I have also met at a convention since they hail from my area of the US) and William Van Horn. I mainly know the American Duck writers, but I also enjoy the translated works I have read of Daan Jippes, Romano Scarpa, and Marco Rota. I also have some German Duck stories (both Lustiges Tashenbuch and Bark's translations) from a trip I took to Deutchland back in the 90's. I look forward to talking with other Duck fans and can't wait for the new Barks editions that we recently found out news about. I am also loving the new Darkwing comic.
Other Disney things I love besides the Ducks are: Zorro, Disney Afternoon (especially Ducktales, Darkwing, and Tale Spin), the animated Robin Hood (which I collect anything I can from), Herbie the Love Bug, Beauty and the Beast, The Black Cauldron, the Great Mouse Detective, and Treasure Planet. Thanks for the welcome. I forgot to mention I am also a big Jose Carioca fan and am wondering if there are any good collections of Brazilian comics of his adventures I can find easily and affordably.

There are some Jose Carioca comics released by abril cinco in latin american countries in spanish, (aside from the portuguese brazilian stories)
I have a handful of those stored somewhere; many of them focus on their local soccer team, or on Jose being a deadbeat and skipping out on his bill collectors

Written Spanish and Portuguese are very close. If you read Spanish, you should be able to understand the gist of the Portuguese text. It's the way Portuguese is spoken that is verydifferent from Spanish, and thus, difficult for Spanish 2nd and 3rd language speakers to decipher. But, of course, Brazilian Portuguese is farther away from the Castilian we learn in school than is Continental (European) Portuguese.

I've liked Jose ever since I first saw The Three Caballeros and the two reunion stories Don Rosa did. I knew there were comics that existed in Latin America about him but I didn't do much research until recently.
I am NOT interested in reprints of American stories in which Jose has replaced Mickey or Donald.
I am interested in original stories about Jose. I know a lot of stories involve him treasure hunting and trying to keep his nightclub job. I do not care if they are old or modern. I have heard that Daisy is popular in the Brazilian comics too and that she and Jose are part of a superhero team. I would like to read some of those stories if possible.
I would prefer trade paperbacks for collecting whenever possible. Are there any "must own" stories that are considered not to be missed by Jose fans? Have they been collected as trade paperbacks? If so, what are the titles so I will know them if I look for them on eBay or if you know any Brazilian comics stores that sell online. Is there a Latin American equivalent of Amazon.com? I do not want to spend a lot of money, but I would like to sample some popular stories that have been good enough to be put into a trade paperback collection.
At this point, I do not know what I want to buy yet, I am still just trying to find out more information. But I am excited that there are Jose comics that I never though I would have access to as a kid, but now thanks to the Internet I can try to hunt down.
