Basically, these re-packagings include the original sets, in their original form ... except now, there's a thin slipcase that doubles the exterior of the original (and now "inner") case/box, leaving enough room for the plastic-wrapped, un-inflated beach ball. The price was low enough to justify snatching up the sets I didn't yet own ... but I'm still vacillating on whether or not I should just "chuck" the slipcases (or use them as decorations) and give the beach balls to my child cousins. :D Part of me doesn't wants to get "new" copies of "still factory-sealed" original, sans-beach ball sets, and resell these ... because "hiding" the extraneous slipcase and the beach ball seems inauthentic. But I think such considerations are just way too picky, on my part. ;)

I think it's interesting to note that -- per TV listings that I scrounged up at newspaperarchive.com -- in <i>some</i> television markets in the U.S., <i>DuckTales</i> did indeed premiere on Friday, 9/18/87 ... while in others, the "Treasure of the Golden Suns" two-hour TV movie special was first shown Sunday, 9/20. But all signs point to 9/18 being the first time "Treasure of the Golden Suns" aired <i>any</i>where, if not <i>every</i>where ... and thus, for all intents and purposes, <i>the</i> date on which the series premiered.

Which is exactly why I really hate these purchases...Because now, Disney will only focus on the new characters, and are forgetting their own.
Why would they want to bring back Scrooge or the Disney Afternoon, if they can make big bucks with the newly purchased licences?!
People keep/kept saying they're afraid Disney may "ruin" Pixar, Marvel or Lucas, but the REAL question should be : are THEY ruining "Disney"?
And to me, the answer is : YES.
I don't like most of the things Disney does since mid-2000's, and that's exactly when they purchased Pixar. To me, Pixar ruined Disney, the same happened with Marvel. (Boom! comics may have continued if this didn't happen, they probably wouldn't have turned the good Toon Disney into a "boy" channel full of Marvel and awful series, etc...)
There was a light of hope when they made Princess & The Frog, but now it's clear they're not interested in doing anything like they've done for a whole century (good traditional animation style, focus on classic characters, ...)
That said, there are things from Disney I'm still grateful about, and looking forward.
For example, Epic Mickey, especially the 3DS version, which INCLUDES Scrooge!!! (but you'll have to thank Warren Spector for that!) It comes out this month!

I know I have theory why we never had episode about Gladstone and Donald rivaling over Daisy.
On DVD for Fleishers Popeye there is a documentary about the character's history and they talk how when Hanna-Barbera made Popeye show in 80's Popeye and Bluto no longer could fight about Olive since they got notes from the censores that two guys rivialing about a girl is consider sexist/chauvinistic so they where force to ignor Blutos fillings for Olive and the charaters where only rivaling in sports etc.
I wonder if Duck Tales avoided Donad and Gladstone rivaly for the same reason...

I agree, it does seem that Disney is taking the easy (yet EXPENSIVE) road to keep themselves afloat and relevant by purchasing The Muppets, Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm. While in a somewhat misguided way, at least Warner Bros. TRIES to keep Bugs Bunny and company in the public eye every few years. It feels like they've given up on the wider market for Donald Duck and Uncle Scrooge after the whole BOOM deal went Ka-BOOM (pun intended) and just decided to let Fantagraphics market collector's books rather than attempt to keep Walt Disney's Comics and Stories, Uncle Scrooge, Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck as well as Darkwing Duck, DuckTales and the Disney Afternoon shows going in-house at Marvel.

I think she will appear in some DuckTales episodes if Donald was one of main characters. Maybe they wanted to put Donald in the main cast and later they changed their mind and they put Launchpad instead :).

I guess the main problem was Donald voice but they wanted to concetrate on the whole Scrooge/HD&L dynamic. They wanted to put as much focus on Scrooge but keep HD&L to attrackt kids. Plus Donald is already well know character and they wanted promote less known and new characters.
Lunchpad was a good idea since you could understand what he talks about and there wwas a reason for him to be there since he was the pilot.

I have a DUCKTALES-related question for the German folks in the audience...
I have heard that the German dub for DUCKTALES was actually REdubbed, at least in part, with some of the original character voices in the first German dub being replaced by other voices. Does anyone know the story behind this?

Huey, Dewey and Louie were dubbed by Stefan Krause, Santiago Ziesmer and Oliver Rohrbeck in Season 1 originally, but later all dialogue was replaced by Ranja Bonalana, who also spoke them in Season 2 and the feature length movie. However, Hermann Ebeling, who spoke Uncle Scrooge in Season 1, wasn't replaced with Joscha Fischer Antze, who spoke him in Season 2 and the movie.
You can hear the original voices on tape.
There are audio plays, which are using the old dub:

My guess is, that this was done to get their voices more in line with their voices in the Cartoons.

I must say that I approve of the change, even WITHOUT having heard the original HD&L voices. Ranja does a really fine job.
