I just ordered a bunch of DVDs through the Warner Archive collection and a copy of Heathcliff through Millcreek entertainment and was surprised by how well the quality was with both purchases. Don't get me wrong, they are stunning HD, remastered works of art, but they looked good on the 42 inch TVs on which they were viewed.
If nothing else it just underscores the frustration with Disney's inability to finish what they start with much of their television library, as well as a lack of willingness to explore new methods. It's not as if the Disney Afternoon releases were stacked with extras and a whole lot of TLC. It would be a very easy process to finish off several series with the Made On Demand (MOD) approach. Instead, Disney's MOD efforts have been lacking at best, negligent at worst.
Such a shameful showing by a powerful and (still) proud company that has so much to offer.
