It would be sad to see Gemstone go out of business if it were to happen. I would miss the Disney Comics Terribly.

There are enough buyers to keep the business worthwhile. Perhaps it just needs a more solvent company.

I am sure Egmont could take over, but it would still be a loss if Gemstone were to close down :-(

Egmont opened a USA branch last year for book-publishing in North America: http://www.egmontusa.com/. But from a business standpoint I honestly don't know why Egmont would chance to publish Disney comics to an American audience that is virtually anemic compared to that in Europe. Why would they take over the reigns from American publishers, all of whom ultimately failed to sustain themselves with Disney comics? And particularly in this depressed global economy? All common sense points to such an enterprise as high risk for a moderately low return at best. I don't see it happening in the USA.

I'd think Egmont could subsidize a low North American distribution with their success in Europe. It would be more sustainable than Gemstone trying to get by on a very small output at least.

Robb do you have a link by any chance? Google isn't being cooperative at all. I'm finding sites talking about them, but not any publisher. I don't even know that I'm actually going to buy comics from overseas, but I'd like to at least look into what's out there.

You think so? they only have 6,000 Worldwide, and probably 2,000 of those are from outside USA. That isn't enough of a market to bother with in this bad economy (or, even a good economy).
Britain has almost no interest in Disney Comics. Australia, Canada, USA, New Zealand and Australia don't make a large enough market to bother with, and the advertising and some aspects would have to be different for each. It may be that traditional Disney Comics in USA are done forever. It may be that only deLuxe hardbound compilations of various artists will be all that is ever published again.
But, perhaps this is not the end. We'll just have to wait and see.

I have some Indian printings of my own stories. I will list the publisher and its address, when I return home. I don't know if there was an e-mail address listed. But, the stories printed are translated from Danish back into English. They printed mainly fairly short stories. I don't think that you will be able to use Indian Disney Comics published by the Egmont affiliate as a replacement for Gemstone.

6,000 are enough to print comic books profitable. There are some Disney comic books in Germany with less circulation (printed and sold by Egmont).

Not in the USA today, I don't believe. This is a very small figure made up mostly of relatively older fans and collectors?and it is dwindling because the younger American generation couldn't care any less about Disney cartoon characters.

I really want the Don Rosa library, because I couldn't obtain a version of "The Life and times of Scrooge mcDuck", I only got the companion.

I think It would be cool if Egmont started publishing American Disney Comics. I don't know if it's going to happen though.

Here is the Singapore English language Disney comic. They don't publish anymore. I can't get at my Indian Disney comics now, but they are pocketbook size (and still being printed);
