Hello,
There is a small report on the exhibition now held in Rome to
celebrate the 50th birthday of the Italian main Disney
publication: Topolino Libretto.
I visited it yesterday (buying ticket number one!) but I didn't
like it much: it is a faithful explanation of what Disney Italia
thinks of its readers: children! Almost all the exhibition was a
giant comic story, and just few items were of some interest for
people older that 5 years.
There are original panels from Italian stories, covers, reprints
of the first 10 issues of Topolino, a collection of gadgets
Topolino gave through years (and I had the chance to see again
the shield with images from Robin Hood I remember from my
childhood and couldn't find anywhere else)... but there was
missing something: all that stuff was placed here without any
care, many of the explanations placed on the items exposed were
wrong: Almanacco Topolino presented as the "Classico Viva
Topolino", or an inversion of the labels of the stories "Il
Milione" and "Miseria e nobilta'"...
But there were also 6 very interesting items: original drawings
from Scarpa, coloured by Bordini and with the *original
signature* of Walt Disney! I never saw before Walt's original
signature anywhere, and the paintings were very very beautiful.
There was explained that those paints were commissioned to Scarpa
to make lithographies to give as *present* to the subscribers of
Mondadori Disney issues... too bad that now all that they give to
subscribers is a small radio.... :-(
A small curiosity about the paints: in one of them appears Trudy,
but maybe the character was not yet very familiar to Bordini,
since he coloured her hair in black!
BTW, there was also a catalogue, with interesting stuff in it,
from "our friends" Luca Boschi, Alberto Becattini, Leonardo Gori
and Lidia Cannatella. I haven't read it yet, but I think I'll
appreciate it!

I have put a scan of Romano Scarpa's last <strip-story> on the "censored"
pages. This "Minnotchka" (a parody of Lubitsch's Ninotchka) was never
reprinted, even in the amatorial editions, so this is really an unique
chance for Scarpa fans to get this story.
A person kindly wrote me an e-mail to point out that there was a mistake in
page 22, namely the strips numbered as 87 and 88 were not right. I have
corrected this now, so you can enjoy (hopefully) the correct version of the
story now!
