Hi all!
I have problems with the new Barks font. I would
prefer to have it in ttf-format if possible.
If not, how can I get the present version to work?

No snags, but many details. It has always been Gemstone's intention to
get the details sorted out and nailed down before making any definitive
statements about what will be produced for these markets, and when they
will be produced. What John had to say was about the projects that have
a firm schedule at this juncture.
Keep in mind that just a few short months ago it wasn't even possible
to say that Gemstone was even going to do the Disney comics. Now two
prestige monthlies and two newsstand monthlies will be coming out, all
up and running by the end of summer. And those details are being pulled
together to get us out there in the trade paperback arena. After four
years of nothing, I think that's pretty fair progress.

U.S. list members:
Free Comic Day is Saturday, May 3, according to the staff at Austin Books.
Many publishers are designating a giveaway book from their roster. The first
Gemstone Disney book will be among them: Walt Disney's Donald Duck
Adventures. Go here for more information:

No, you cant compare the game with any other. You have a bat, a ball, a
thrower and a grid but the rules are impossible for anyone exept the fans.
Perhaps is softball and baseball related to cricket.

Hi Sigvald!
If you download the Windows version on the German Donaldists' webpage
http://www.donald.org/de/barks/font/CarlBarksScript2.zip
you will already have a TrueType (ttf) version of the file. When you
un-zip the downloaded file, you will see several files, but you only
need the CarlBarksScript.ttf file (just copy it to your Fonts-directory
in Windows)

For those of you who are interested in Free Comic Book Day, here's the
official URL:
http://www.freecomicbookday.com
A toughie to remember, right? ;-)
And here's a list of participating publishers:
http://www.freecomicbookday.com/pub_com.asp
By the way, it's best to call up your local comic shop beforehand to see it
they're participating. They might not be offering the Donald Duck Adventures
book, or some of the other offered titles.
FWIW, besides the DDA book, i'm looking most forward to Batman Adventures
and The Best of Dork Storm. Dork Storm offers hilarious books. One of their
titles Dork Tower rings true to this comic book/SF/fantasy movie geek.
Recommended fully!
Thanks,
Jeff C

Hello folks
Just to add to Shaun's comments about the saying "it's
not cricket"....the phrase is an old one, and was
around years before Unca Walt began his plans for
world domination.

Quack,
oh, I made a misspelling. The correct address should be
<URL:http://brugd.ctrl-c.liu.se/~bark/carlbarks.gif>. It's not that
much to see anyway.
I have also made a symlink to the incorrect URL. Sorry about that.

Jack,
Go here:
<A HREF="http://www.gemstonepub.com/">http://www.gemstonepub.com/</A>
for an announcement from December 11 from Gemstone about the resumption of
publication. Four titles by the end of 2003. Also, check the thread for
these postings for a link posted by me a few days ago which mentions the
first book being a freebie to be distributed on May 3 (Free Comic Day)
Message threads found at <A HREF="http://stp.ling.uu.se/~starback/dcml/index.html">http://stp.ling.uu.se/~starback/dcml/index.html</A>
Now for the real problem of the day: isn't "krokket" Norwegian for croquet,
the yard game played in Alice in Wonderland? Just guessing...

Hmm, they say "Any comic book stores in the world can participate in Free
Comic Book Day, although there may be some limitations on which titles are
available in which countries due to licensing and other considerations. If
you want your local store to get involved, let them know!"
So it *might* be possible to obtain some of these comic books even here in
Finland, but it's certainly doubtful - I guess...
I have to send email to some finnish comic shops.

Free Comic Book Day--Disney Book Readily Available?
Message 268 -
2003-01-31 at 22:05:02
I'm hoping that Gemstone's Free Comic Book Day giveaway book will be widely
available. It seems that last year, people were complaining that smaller,
more independent publishers were hard to find, and more mainstream titles
(Spider-Man, Tomb Raider, etc.) kept popping up.
Granted, Disney comics are almost mainstream, but not to the point where
comic dealers would be willing to go out of their way to carry them--even
giveaways. Not yet, anyway.
I'm sure that will change when the comics have actually been hitting stands
for a few months, but when the giveaway book comes out, how difficult will it
be to find?
Just wondering what your thoughts were on the issue...[1]
