Dear Gary Leach:
Towards the end of Gladstone's second run, I remember that some fans
suggested the company put together a special album collection of Barks'
original stories and their Rosa sequels. Are there any plans down the road
for Gemstone to take on this project in the form of graphic novels or
hardcover books? I would gladly buy such a series like this one.
Additionally, has there been any movement in Rosa's Life and Times of
Scrooge project? Thanks!

I bought my long-awaited copy of Rosa's Kalevala story
in Gemstone's new US334 October issue. Don says the
musical notation in the story are from "Finlandia".
But not when Louhi plays the Kantele. Once there was
a musical game show "Name that Tune" on television where
the 2 contestants bid how few notes they would need to
identify a song. On page 21 panel 1, Louhi summons the
sea monster playing just 2 notes on the Kantele. Just 2
notes are too few for me to say what they're from.
But in panel 4 she plays 5 notes as she and the sea
monster fly off to terrorize Helsinki. With these 5 notes I
can "Name that Tune". It's from Richard Wagner's
"Ride of the Valkyries".

Hello everybody.
In the last 2-3 months the Danish "Anders And & Co." has published 2 Paul
Murry stories with new "D" codes.
I have never seen them before in a US publication and the artwork looks like
Murry's last stories from the mid-1980s.
If I hadn't known that Murry died 15 years ago, I'd say that he had begun to
work for Egmont.
Does anybody know the background of these stories? E.g. if they were left
over when Whitman decided to pull the plug on their comic-book line in 1984?
And can we expect more "new" Murry stories?

A total of four previously unpublished Murry stories, which the
editors shelved back in the late 1970's/early 80's, were discovered
roughly a year ago. I believe Egmont will eventually publish them
all, but reading them I understand why they were not published at the
time. If I hadn't read other stories by Murry, I wouldn't think very
highly of his work after reading those.

Hi!
It's crazy how mr. Rosa's duck drawings seem to change owners every other
week at ebay.
I'm sure I've seen this awesome drawing on ebay for sale at least 3 times.

This one is special because of the "used comic books - half cover price"
sign which is a known
statement from the artist itself and because of all the small Barks' cover
reprints and the drawing
shows Scrooge, Donald and all three nephews.)
It's hard to think that a person who really enjoys his work and buys such a
great piece
of art would sell it right away. Maybe (=probably) ebay is just full of
sellers who have took advantage
of mr. Rosa's generosity at conventions and now they circulate the drawings
amongst
themselves trying to get the big bucks from a duckfan. It's quite strange to
see the drawings just
change owners at the web, never getting home to a wall of a person who would
really appreciate it.
Luckily almost all the duck fans have realised not to support these sellers
at ebay and now they're
wondering where they could sell 'em and the prices have gone down. (Or every
possible duckfan
has already got a drawing and the 3042 drawings left are looking themselves
an owner, wandering at
the empty "comics/disney" section of ebay like zombies.)

You have seen it so often because this is a PRINT. It's a high quality xerox
photocopy that was made from the original artwork and afterwards signed by
Don. Don used to sell them at conventions (I don't know if he still does),
so I think the people who bought it from him have every right to resell it
(and prices for a print won't get really high, anyhow).
And no - I'm not the seller and I would never sell any piece of my Rosa
collection. ;-)

The same sort of thing is happening with film music CD's. Since it's really
a niche market, some scores can only get a limited, numbered release--
usually 3000, sometimes 1500 or even 1000.
The situation has considerably worsened this past year or so, with e-bay
sharks jumping on those releases & hoarding them. Such 1000-unit CD's now
sell out in a matter of days. You may still find a few copies from
retailers, with a reasonable markup, but basically, you have to act faster
everytime.
It becomes quite a dilemma when you do not know the music (often the case)
nor the composer, and no sample tracks are available: you can't blind buy
everything,
yet you'd rather not miss on something you might like.

Probably because we all realize the novelty value in signed pieces instead
of the monetary value. I would never see some of my hard-earned collection
at their re-sell monetary value, it will just blur the line between a hobby
collector and an investor collector (like the ones plague-ing the USA
superhero comics). so far i've been able to stand firmly on one side. But i
do understand that some people might stumbled into monetary problems which
will force them to sell most of their precious collections, which i feel
sorry for them and i hope i would never ever have to make a similar
decision.
