I was surprised to see that Don Rosa drew the 3 Kalevala immortals,
Vainamoinen = old man, Ilmarinen, and Louhi, with full human features,
including nose, and 5 fingers. Is this the first time Rosa has drawn
any fully human characters in Duck stories? Not even President
Teddy Roosevelt was drawn fully human. I think Bark's last use of human
features on a character was in Tralla La, from page 5, panel 5, through
page 6, panel 3 (US6, June, 1954). Rosa used the main character from
this segment at the end of "Xanadu", but added a typical cartoonish
dog-nose when drawing him. So until the Kalevala story, I thought
Don Rosa was respecting the tabu against using full human figures
in duck stories.
By the way, does anyone know why Barks drew the ducks of
Tralla La with 5 fingers (see US6, page 16 panel 6), and in other ways
closer to human figures than Duckburg ducks?

As far as I know, there were also some continuities in the 1980s and/or
1990s by Floyd Norman, but exact dates for those are unknown in Inducks.

Inducks contains a field called "superref" (see
http://bolderbast.inducks.org/xesuperref.html) that is used for linking
the continuities with the single strips. A "superrefd" field (see
http://bolderbast.inducks.org/xesuperrefd.html) is automatically added
in the other end so that the linking works in both directions.
Unfortunately, COA doesn't display the superref and superrefd fields.
I'd call this a COA bug.

I'd no idea. I always thought that when Gottfredson left it went totally day
by day. Whats known about the continuity strips post Gottfredson? Full
length stories or just little 2 week quips and whatnot?

A couple of weeks or so ago, there were some questions about the William Van
Horn artwork that appeared on some Donald Duck Orange Juice containers back
in the 1990's. I spoke to Bill about this and he answered the questions as
best he could from memory. I then posted that info here.

A few days later, Bill dug out his files and gave me a more accurate and
full account. I never got around to posting that info. So here it is now:

According to Bill's records, he drew six Donald Duck "one-page" gags that
ran on the orange juice cartons. The first was in about 1991 and he thinks
it was written by Mike Royer. The gag had something to do with a cruise
ship.

The other five stories were all written by Bob Foster and Bill drew them in
1994. The stories had to do with the following:

1. A salesman tries to sell a gizmo to Donald.

2. Donald has so many weekend chores to do that he can't decide where to
start. He goes to check on his nephews and ends up joining them watching TV
and ignoring his chores.

3. Donald is in a locker room and is straining to put on various fancy
sportswear. Getting dressed and ready is so much effort that he decides that
he doesn't need any additional exercise that day.

4. Donald climbs a mountain to seek wisdom from a guru.

5. Donald, Daisy and the boys are on a camping vacation. But Daisy isn't
getting any rest because she's doing all the work.

By the way, the art for the gag about weekend chores was recently auctioned

Can't be. Comic strips end on Saturday or Sunday, and that was a Wednesday.

I've gotten into the habit of checking a perpetual calender before
posting starting or ending dates in "Today in Toons"
(http://www.toonopedia.com/today.htm) or my Toonopedia(tm) in general
(http://www.toonopedia.com). It's amazing how many respected reference
works give dates that can't be.

I'm not sure if this is of any relevance in this particular case, but
the latest Donald Duck Sunday page that I've seen is the one from the
26th of December, 1993 (published in the Swedish Kalle Ankas Julbok from
1995). This was the last Sunday of that year, being the (IMHO) most
appropriate time of the year to stop the production of comic strips.
The Swedish issue first contains all the 1993 Sunday strips, and then,
following those, some 1970s reprints, suggesting that the publisher was
unable to find any other new strips after that point. A large amount of
the 1992 strips had been published in the issue from the previous year,
so reprinting those was probably out of question.

Inducks lists Donald Sunday strips up to 1998, but none of the strips
after 1993 is listed as published anywhere, so it is possible that the
strips do not exist and that they should be removed from Inducks listings.
