Hello everybody.

I am trying to write a small article about Disney silver/bronze age comics,
but unfortunately my information/knowledge is incomplete. So if anybody can
help me answering one or more of the below questions, I will be eternally
grateful.

1) I read somewhere that Pete Alvarado died in 1995 and John Carey in 1990.
Does anybody know if this is true?

2) Mike Arens is supposed to have drawn a newspaper strip called "Hey Mac"
before he began to work on Scamp, Chip'n'Dale etc. for Western. Does anybody
know what kind of strip it was (adventure, funny animal, or?) and who the
writer was?

3) Can anybody tell me what year Jack Manning was born and if he is still
alive? And where did he work before he was hired by Hanna-Barbera in 1959?
(Other animation studio(s), I guess, but which one(s)?)

4) What animation studio(s) did Howard Swift work for in the 1930s before he
was hired by Disney (where he e.g. contributed to the pink elephants scene
in Dumbo)?

5) And finally: What did George Sherman and Tom Golberg do before they began
to organise Disney's "overseas comics programme" in the early 1960s - maybe
other work for Disney?

Gee whiz...that's a lot of strange questions, but any
help/comments/information/corrections will be received with gratitude.

With the Beagle Boys torturing a bound and beaten Glittering Goldie with a
red-hot poker in her eye? No, maybe I should avoid that along with the rape
and vivisection scenes.

No, I think I made it clear that the Beagle Boys had not seen $crooge
between 1882 and 1902. But I'll think about it. Still, I don't need them for
the story I have in mind. I already have a villain in the varmint who
kidnaps Goldie and hauls her off to White Agony Valley. Unchaperoned.

Well, what I need are heroes. I'll make sure every living hero of 1897 shows
up in Dawson City to rescue Glittering Goldie, the Star of the North, from
the ruthless polecat who dragged her off into the wilderness. (If that's

   I was looking at the DCML discussion about HD&Ls 50th anivesery about Bryon Erickson and Bruce Hamilton invited u at a confrence where HDL go looking for there parents what was ur origanal ending was there any ending . Do you think Gemstone would accept your story.Heres one any idea sort of a wierd ending  they were going to Donalds house they were having a good time but they wernt sure wether or not they would reconise them or they send a keepsake saying HDL I am  very proud of u etc. And then u could wrap it up or somthing  with Donald showing the boys a letter from Della.
 
  For" A letter from Home "u said your origanal plan was adding Hortense and Matilda.Edgmont said she was dead and Donald had never seen her again during his childhood how did any one one come up with a conclusion like that are there any facts.If Donald did see Hortense u could use this as a bck up reason ,u dont have to but it might work . Hortense was going to Ludwigs house for Dons  birthday present until he tried a project and dissapeered for many years or just say that she didnt abandon him and Della.You could ask gemstone if your allowed to make that change if u can show Donalds early teen life r his mom in any stories.

Have u seen Scrooge Mc Duck And Money or read the comic book adaptation what did you thinkf the final product the pros and cons of it?. Would u use Ludwig Von Drake in any stories  or would u call him a dead character.

There have been a few pictures of staff memebers in the softcover Library albums (I don't remember which ones exactly), but none of these.

I remember the building & entrance lobby very well (and the corridor beyond that)-- all those Barks lithographs everywhere on the walls, several meters high !
After discoering a couple of Gladstone Disney comics somewhere in California in '94, I resolved to stop in Prescott, Az, in '95. I purchased the Mickey Mouse 1930's strip album (yellow edition), subscribed to the DDA & WDC&S libraries, and went back carrying the first (10?) issues of the WDC&S library.

I am not sure who I met. It may have been Janet Dvorak. Very nice, anyway-- as everyone I've had on the phone or read from here has always been.

It's a good opportunity for thanking the Gladstone team for the years of very high quality comics and albums they have produced, and some of them are now still producing at Gemstone: thanks for your committment to publishing the comics, thanks for the design, layout and editing, thanks for the highly interesting, educated & educative articles, and thanks for the great color!
