I think on the one hand it will be fine to have new American Disney Comics. On the other hand the content of the first two titles is only partly promising. "Wizards of Mickey" which wil be published in WDS, is worth reading, but the Disney-Superheroe stuff planned for Mickey and Friends is really weak. Hope there will be also Gottfredson, Scarpa and the classic Mickey in the future ...

Thumbs down, down, down!! (Help me say down). Ultraheroes and Wizards of Mickey are the WORST EVER MADE SERIES by Disney Italy (for info ask to Italian Disney comics fans on Papersera.net forum). And only 24 pages??? Thumbs down, down, down!!

I actually think it's cool that they brought back the Disney Comics. I just hope that Walt Disney's Comics and Stories, and Mickey Mouse and Friends won't be the only titles they publish. Hopefully they will bring back Uncle Scrooge, Donald Duck and Friends, and other titles like that. They should give us a little variety in our comics collecting.

I have heard negative things about Wizards of Mickey but not Ultraheroes (until now atleast) But when you think about it if they're willing to publish these stories then maybe there could be hope for other foreign comics.

That means they are going after the younger market, too,-which may help them to mass market, and get distribution in mass market outlets, like discount stores, grocery stores and newsstands. I hope they can get into bookstores, too-and The Disney Stores.

That one seemed like a no-brainer to me for years. Never did understand why they didn't have a little spinner rack in all their locations.

I think this is great news and I'm excited to see how this will turn out. As a long-time collector I loved the Gemstone comics and I'm disappointed that they are gone. The new Walt Disney Comics & Stories will be SO much different, it is quite shocking.
Ultraheroes is 240 pages and Wizards of Mickey is 266 pages, so this is going to keep the new 24-page WDC&S and MM filled for the next year or so. Personally I am not very happy with that as some people have pointed out that Ultraheroes and Wizards are weak. But I still think it's better than nothing and I applaud them for trying something different.
The new publisher obtained the license pretty quickly, so they must have presented Disney Publishing Worldwide with something that appealed to them. If this is what it takes to sell Disney comics in the US then let them try it. If these titles get established and get a place at regular stores across America with a larger print run then hopefully they can start to increase the page count and throw in some other type of stories as well as some collector editions again. But they have to start somewhere, and I have the feeling that Disney wants them to do it this way or they wouldn't have given them the license so quickly.
I wonder if any old Gemstone employees will be able to do any work for the new comics. And, will Boom! start to create new Duck and Mouse stories? Their Incredibles, Cars and Muppets comics appear to have brand-new stories.

I can't wait for Boom! to bring back Disney Afternoon comics! I'd like to write some of those!

That would be cool stavner. I'm not sure it's going to happen though. I wonder if there is an official website for Boom Studios.

There is http://www.boom-studios.net/
But there is nothing about the new Disney license on it.

Thanks Charlie.

Ultraheros is not the kind of Disney comics I like to read. Not at all.
You can download it in Italian at http://www.disney.it/publishing/topolinomagazine/#/fumetti/saghe/ultraheroes.jsp e.g. the first chapter: http://www.disney.it/publishing/topolinomagazine/fumetti/saghe/cms_res/prologo.pdf

The same with Wizards of Mickey:
Take a look at Wizards of Mickey. Click "WoM" and "Gli episodi" to download the pdf files. The art and story telling doesn't look like traditional Disney comics.
Both series seem to have a much younger target group... not me :(

I'm still waiting for any evidence that we'll see traditional Disney (UNCLE SCROOGE) comics from Boom!.
tick, tocK, TICK, TOCK....

According to Newsarama, the rights to the classic Disney material is included in Boom?s license.

?We will be handling the classic material,? Richie said, declining to go into detail at this time. ?We?re not going to abandon the fans that are buying that material, so we will have programs and products for them.?
