Regarding Scrooge, I suspect Boom needs something to announce at in San Diego.
The only things I don't like about the Boom kids titles are the page count (24 pages) and the variant covers (as I recall, all of the Incredibles and Muppet titles have variant covers).

Quote from user: arthurThe new publisher obtained the license pretty quickly, so they must have presented Disney Publishing Worldwide with something that appealed to them. If this is what it takes to sell Disney comics in the US then let them try it.
The chance to launch even in USA the Wizards of Mickey trading game cards, I suppose... (Yes, here in Italy were lauched some times after the first WoM series, because I'm afraid this is an ongoing series, that will have some new episodes this summer on Topolino). It's only money, not passion and/or love for Disney classic characters.

>get distribution in ... The Disney Stores.
Disney stores were not interested in comics. The customer demand was too small, the retail prices were too low for the space they would take up, the format was not durable, and the comics were too "high maintenance" -- the display would need to be constantly straightened and organized.
That's why comics disappeared from most drug stores, etc in the USA.

Yes, I know that the "traditional comics format" proposed by Boom!, with the 24 pages and soft cover would never be handled by them. But special books like "Disney Treasures" and other semi hard-cover books might be, if Boom!'s whole line is mass-marketed. The format makes the books more sturdy, and the larger sales of the mass market for much of Boom!'s line might allow Disney stores to accept Uncle Scrooge, Donald and Mickey in their traditional-style stories in their more sturdy formats (as they are the same characters as those in Booms! more mass market "kiddie lines"). At least that situation provides some hope.

I don't care what format the Disney Comics are in as long as they exist and I can afford them. If I can buy them in stores then It is a refreshing change not having to subscribe to them all the time. I just wish that they would put stories like Wizards of Mickey in a tradepaperback format and leave room for more one part stories.

I care about the format. The prestige format was fabulous! Anything less would suck. And I care about the quality. I don't like taking steps backward. I don't want to settle for crap just because it's all there is. If it's a lousy pub, with lousy printing, lousy stories and lousy presentation full of noisy ads, I won't spend my lousy money on it.

*If* Boom only prints Italian 3 panel stories I will be *very* disappointed. *If* Boom does not print many 4 panel Egmont stories ala Vicar, Branca, etc. I will be *very* disappointed. However, I still have a lot of hope that Boom will print some of the stuff most of us like.
I have no problems with "Wizards of Mickey' or "Ultraheroes". Whether they are bad or not, I don't know. They do sound like stories that might interest kids though. I just wish they were going to be published in TPBs and not hog up WDC&S and M&F for the next year! :(
I hope they do reprints of Barks, Rosa, etc. but in the *right* format! It would be great to have both a Barks and Rosa library. It would be great to have collections of Barks and Rosa in TPB. However, we do *not* need re-re-reprints in the standard comic books!
While I like all sorts of Disney comics, by far my favorite "new" stories are the 4 panel stories that come from Egmont. They can be short comedy stories, or longer adventure ones; any are fine by me. Are they all great? No. Is every story that Barks and Rosa did great? No. (Wow, I may have just committed blasphemy! :))

This isn't a format that interests me, but I do think that it'll find a larger audience than what Gemstone was doing. That said, I also wasn't interested in most of what they were doing over the last couple of years either.

I for one am glad the Disney comics are coming back to the USA.
I have been reading them since the 1970's. I have bought them when they were being published by Gold Key, Whitmen, Gladstone, Disney and Gemstone.
I am not really interested in the "classic" Barks and Rosa stores being reprinted in the regular titles, as for an old reader like me it's a bit of an overkill.
I would like to see reprints of the stuff that's been published in Europe over the many years. Material that has not been translated into English yet.
Oh and in this economy, gotta love the $2.99 price, so much more affordable them Gemstone's $8.95
Well anyway that's my 2 cents

It's good to see that Wizards of Mickey is FINALLY making its way to the States.
Not sure how I feel about the "floppy" format, yet. I think something like "Wizards of Mickey" would've been better suited to a stand alone collected edition.
Should be interesting to see what they do, anyway. It's clear they're making a break from Gladstone/Gemstone.

The prestige format of Gladstone and Gemstone has represented an unmatched aesthetic quality in the history of U.S. Disney comic book publishing. If Boom! does happen to publish UNCLE SCROOGE?and I have yet to see any evidence of this?in a so-called "floppy" format, it would NOT be a change for the better.

"Floppy" books (slang term for pamphlet sized comics due to their thin, "floppy" nature) are quickly dying out here in the States. Few news stands and bookstores carry them, as the market for print comics has definitely shifted in favor of graphic novels over the past few years. There were complaints that Gemstone catered to a niche crowd with their prestige books, but I have to think that those prestige format books (which have ISBN numbers) stood a much better chance at selling outside comic book shops than a floppy ever will.
It should also be noted that some of the first books Gemstone cancelled were their own 32 page floppies. Presumably because they just didn't sell. This included "Mickey Mouse and Friends."
Just saying... it's not what *I* would do. But I'm not in charge.
Wait and see, I guess...

Gemstone: $7.99 for 64 pages = 0.12484 cents per page
Boom: $2.99 for 24 pages = 0.12458
They are actually just 0.00026 cents per page cheaper. And for that you get a floppy comic. ;)
