We're talking about stories that begin after or during the action and then flash back to a scene beforehand, right? In which case, the Horseradish Story doesn't fit. But what does fit is the 1959 weemite story, as well as "That's No Fable!" Also 1956's "Dogcatcher." Argh, why am I doing this? I don't WANT to win! I got nothin'!

OK, Robb's got 2 and GeoX 3; but don't worry, GeoX, if you win we can just pretend this quiz never happened and ask Arild to go next :) !
What's the code or title of the Senator Snoggin story?

Yes to Fantastic River Race, but I'm not convinced by Donald's Worst Nightmare. Unfortunately, I don't own all the Gladstone WDCS albums, so I can't check it out. Can anyone else weigh in on that one?

There's "King Scrooge the First," which opens up in the future that's also the past. Whoa.

In "Donald's Worst Nightmare" (which was actually an untitled 10-pager), the story opens up in the middle of Donald's nightmare. I don't believe I would consider that a "flashback", as he is currently having the nightmare. His nephews wake him out of his sleep in real time.

Actually, I don't think any of these stories are in media res.
The first panels are not "in the middle of things".
We are not "plunging into a crucial situation that is part of a related chain of events".
An example, If you have seen Lawrence of Arabia the film starts with his death.
(The clip has the title "The finish of...", but it is the beginning of the movie.)
Many of them are more like "frame stories". They start with Donald or Scrooge telling their stories - then the story is told.

Whoa, I feel dumb for missing all that. Dude was on a roll--or in a rut, depending on how you want to spin it.

That's five for sirredknee! Arild, you are correct that many of those we have identified are not starting "in media res"--but I decided to go ahead and allow all stories where the first panel(s) take place after the onset of the story's plot, and that includes frame stories. Once we have a more or less complete list, I will separate it for myself into frame stories and other varieties of "flashback" storylines.

Has WDC 175 been mentioned? Donald tells his sad story to a psychiatrist.

That's six for sirredknee, five for GeoX, two for Robb and one for Arild. I personally can't think of any more, so I'm going to end the quiz now and declare sirredknee the winner. By happy coincidence, sirredknee named the story with my favorite framing device--the taffy story, where Donald is telling his story to a psychiatrist. So sirredknee, it's up to you or to Arild (winner of the pets quiz) to go next!
Not that I won't be happy to add to the list of flashback stories, if anyone comes up with any others! It's fun to be able to crowd-source a question of personal curiosity in this way.
