Tanx much, Todd. The inestimable inking of "Bucky O'Neill" and the
unparalleled coloring of Susan Daigle-Leach made that cover sing! I
supervised, of course. Barks went on to do a full-fledged painting based on
the original sketch, so maybe we'll use that on a cover someday!
Just kidding (maybe). Barks' paintings, terrific as so many of them are,
are just not meant for comic book covers (with one notable exception).
Strangely, this seems to be especially true of the paintings he's done
based on his own line art comic book covers. Once in a while we take a shot
- keeping the faith, so to speak - but we've yet to be terribly thrilled
with the results.
Painted comic book covers can be very nice, and I remember many of the ones
on Gold Key's adventure comics in the Sixties drawing me to things like
Magnus, Robot Fighter, Lost In Space, and Mighty Samson, but even then they
seemed kind of strange, as if they weren't quite comic books. (And even
Gold Key only rarely used painted covers on their humor titles.)

To All: I am writing a research paper for my English class over
Carl Barks; how his life and times compares to that of $crooge's life. I
was wondering if anyone had any information about him, because Iam have a
hard time trying to find info.There is nothing about him or Disney comics
at my high school library. Hopefully by writing this paper I can get some
of my peers to start reading Disney comics. They don't know what they are
missin'! If anyone can send me any information about Carl I would really

one or two of those shows in the past. I actually was scheduled to be at a
CenterCon last summer until I realized I had already agreed to be at too
many shows during that time and needed to have a weekend to cut grass and
say hello to my wife. Last I heard the CenterCons were on "hold", but when
they restart, I was told I would be invited.

exhaustion being one of 'em), my partners and I put Center Con 'on vacation' for 1997.
Our old location at the Seattle Center is no longer available, and we're looking around
for a new location for the future. However, not having a whole lot of luck in that
department. Well, at least the 'exhaustion' aspect is being taken care of!
And Don is on the list of guests first to contact, once we figure out where we're going.

Goofy in some of the Mickey Mouse stories that presently appear in WALT
DISNEY'S COMICS AND STORIES, and his own satirical stories, "A Goofy Look
At..." are often printed in WDC&S these days, too.

I'm afraid that the only Greek comic book that I read is Comics, and I only
recently started doing that. Thus, I don't know anything about this story. It
does sound interesting, however. Any idea in which comic book title it might
