look at it, size it up, and then make up your own mind about what it's all

remember if "familial rivalry" really was the reason for the cancelling
of "Bobsled Race"?
Other things I would like to know is if Barks has ever given details on
what was cut away from "The Madcap Mariner" (WDC 247) and "Stranger than
Fiction" (WDC 249)? The only comment I know on "The Madcap Mariner" is:
"Naturally, the page that was lifted from the codfish story was the
one with the best gags." (March 24, 1961)
Did Barks ever give more details on this? Did he ever say something on
the cuts in "Stranger than Fiction"?
Believe it or not, but these questions have been bothering me for years.

On issue #90 (March 1997) of "Zio Paperone", Lidia answers some readers'
questions assuring that she will forward them to Don Rosa. Since they are
(DCML-wise) very interesting questions, I am posting them here; surely Don
has already answered them and it will cost him little to repeat his answers
here for everybody on the list.
All questions are about Don's "Return to Plain Awful".
We have learned that inhabitants of Plain Awful can't stand the sight of
round things. Then
(1) How come they don't object to the sphere which is on the pole holding
the JW flag? (see, e. g., the last panel on the fifth page)
(2) How come they don't sentence Flinthearth to death when he shows a ROUND
DOLLAR (page 26, panel 7)?
(3) How come they don't object to the hens' ROUND nests? (page 16, last panel)?

just this moment Wolfgang (Zenker) left my flat and trusted me with a
insignificant looking but valuable cassette: it contains his 10-15
minute interview with Carl Barks made just last weekend at the
$crooge 50th Anniversary Celebration. He also showed me 5 rolls of
pictures and told me a lot about the event, meeting (amongst others)
John Lustig of this list, how Carl put his hands in the cement before
the "Chinese Theater"-clone at MGM-studio and so on...
Yes, I heard the interview already, yes, CB answered some of your
questions, and yes again, there are really some new insights and
informations. (Yes, he discusses Rosa...)
I will type the whole thing one of the next days, post it partly
here, and send it upon finishing it to Per (and others?) who want to
put it on more permanent places like Disney-homepages.
Further I'd like to post the not asked questions too, because this
might inspire further discussions around here...
Pheeeeew... looks like I have quite some work ahead of me...

with the code F - JM - 91207.
So it is a FRENCH story ;-) but if I had to bet on the artist, I'd say
he was Maximino Tortajada from Catalonia (I dare not say Spain lest someone
tell him ;-))

become brave... or reckless!

As I read today in my local newcomer, the AIM (American Indian
Movement) are trying to ban the word "Squaw" at least in the names of
places.
Turns out, "squaw" doesn't mean "wife" after all, but is a very low
slang term for, well, a female organ designed for procreation...
Besides citys and towns, that will affect a large part of literature
too, I'm sure, knowing how prudish (at least the official part of ) the US
of A still is about sexuality. (Only muslim states rival that...)
So they better start re-rhyming "Annie Get Your Gun" and, and, and...
As for Disney... if they ban/censor stories because of prunes in
pockets or indians looking alike... Better lock away your
CB-libraries - they may be revoked or banned...

How strange! In TL 1863 that story is listed as F-JM-91207, indicating that
this is a French story. But why didn't the editors of Kalle Anka Pocket
just *copy* that code, if they HAD the TL 1863?

book about him by Becattini-Gori-Stajano (
