It's been years since I last saw the movie. There were two trucks,
I believe, the larger one having a dual rear axle, both carrying hundreds

"Intertextuality" is one of those fancy names for simple things.
It means relations between texts. Intertextuality is one of 20th
century's major events in the study of literature (doesn't shake
the world very much though) and the Great Names of the theory are
Julia Kristeva, Roland Barthes and some others which are all
very hard to understand (in my opinion at least).
Studying intertextual references between Barks' classics
and yours is of course much more fun. It includes finding the
references, describing and classifying them, studying the
effects they have in the Duck world and of course drinking
lots of coffee while reading the best Duck comics in the world.
I might be able to help that friend of yours who
would like to have Kadonneen kirjaston vartijat. At least
I am Finnish and consider myself as helpful...

I would also be very interested in Barks' opinion. If I were Barks
I know I'd be _honored_ by Rosa's sequels, especially since they're
done with so great care. Honestly, I can't for the life of me imagine
a Barks fan that doesn't appreciate Don's work, but obviously they
exist...

The Money Pit (KD 0190) is one of my personal favourites; it's
touching in a way, it's a different story, and it has a message that I
agree with.
Perhaps a better introduction to him (but who am I to decide that?)
might be Return to Xanadu (D 90314) - truly awesome - or Last Sled to
Dawson (AR 113).
Speaking of Return to Xanadu, Don wrote on the list a few weeks ago
that "the reader is not supposed to *know* that it's a sequel until
about 1/3 into the story -- it's supposed to be a sorta surprize."
I'd like him to know that for me this worked and it was a TOTAL
surprise. The first time I read the story I was sort of annoyed by
the ducks remembering and thinking everything was so familiar, and I
didn't realize where they were until Huey, Dewey, and Louie figured it
out... Oops, better shut up know, or I will spoil it for Rob!

At the back-cover of Uncle Scrooge 218 it says that the next issue of Uncle
Scrooge will show a promising new artist and his first published
Disney-story, Son of the Sun. It is also mentioned that the first salesday
of Uncle Scrooge 219 will be April 7th 1987. So THANKS A LOT for 10 years
of wonderful work, Don!

I vaguely remember that, when the story was discussed here on the list,
someone gave the idea that it could also have something to do with the
polluting paper-mill in the story, that Disney might own such a mill
themselves and therefore don't want this story being published. Could
there be any truth in this theory?
When I read the story for the first time, I found it a bit discorded
(right word?). It gives the reader a view on what happens (or may happen)
during the manufacturing of paper, while it is printed on paper itself!
It's a very good case that Scrooge later realizes the importance of being
environment-friendly, but what does the actual manufacturer of the actual
paper of that actual comic think? (Yes, I've seen "The Rutles"!) ;-)
Maybe Disney doesn't want comics being published with heavy political
and/or environmental messages (especially when it's about paper, one
of Disney's media)?
BTW. I'm not contradicting my previous letter, this story really *is* my
favourite Barks-sequel!

It soon will be! I'm busy working on that file at this moment. From now
on, it will also contain information on changes in (Gladstone) albums
and comics.
If it was up to me, I would like to have the changes written down of
*every* USA Barks-reprint. A problem is that I don't have the information
on this, so any help in making such a list would be appreciated very much.
BTW. The reason why I draw the line at USA-reprints is that this is the
only place where Barks-stories should appear in their original state,
because they don't need to be translated and relettered. (Of course
this is IMO, if someone decides to make a list of his/her own
country, then just go ahead.)
Unfortunately it were not only the reprints which were sometimes changed,
it also happened with the *first* prints. I'm working out an article on
that for my upcoming Barks web-page, which leads me into the following
subject:
QUESTIONS FOR CARL BARKS
I don't know who asked for questions to Barks, but what I would like to
know is any detail Barks still can remember of the lost "golden apples"
and "bobsled race" stories. In the past he has given a vague recollection
of "golden apples", but - as far as I know - never one for "bobsled race".
Is there someone here who knows Barks good enough to ask him this burning
question of me? Or maybe there's someone who has plans to interview him
and is willing to ask it?

I think you're mixing up the "Carl Barks Library" and the "Carl Barks
Library in Color". The CBL is a hardcover collection of 30 books,
compiled in 10 sets. The CBLiC is a series of comic-book albums.
The albums are in colour, while the CBL has (almost) all stories in
black and white (which is how Barks drew them).
Both the CBL and the CBLiC *do* bow to the censors, but only not as much
as the current USA comic-reprints do.
GOLDIE SINGING "AFTER THE BALL":
In "Back to the Klondike" (US 2), Scrooge remembers Goldie singing a song
called "After the Ball". Recently it was mentioned here that this song
really existed. Is there someone here who has the lyrics and is willing
to post them?

I vaguely remember that, when the story was discussed here on the list,
someone gave the idea that it could also have something to do with the
polluting paper-mill in the story, that Disney might own such a mill
themselves and therefore don't want this story being published. Could
there be any truth in this theory?
When I read the story for the first time, I found it a bit discorded
(right word?). It gives the reader a view on what happens (or may happen)
during the manufacturing of paper, while it is printed on paper itself!
It's a very good case that Scrooge later realizes the importance of being
environment-friendly, but what does the actual manufacturer of the actual
paper of that actual comic think? (Yes, I've seen "The Rutles"!) ;-)
Maybe Disney doesn't want comics being published with heavy political
and/or environmental messages (especially when it's about paper, one
of Disney's media)?
BTW. I'm not contradicting my previous letter, this story really *is* my
favourite Barks-sequel!

Recently there's another exception: "A Cold Bargain" (US 17), which is
printed uncensored in the CBL in Color.

It soon will be! I'm busy working on that file at this moment. From now
on, it will also contain information on changes in (Gladstone) albums
and comics.
If it was up to me, I would like to have the changes written down of
*every* USA Barks-reprint. A problem is that I don't have the information
on this, so any help in making such a list would be appreciated very much.
BTW. The reason why I draw the line at USA-reprints is that this is the
only place where Barks-stories should appear in their original state,
because they don't need to be translated and relettered. (Of course
this is IMO, if someone decides to make a list of his/her own
country, then just go ahead.)
Unfortunately it were not only the reprints which were sometimes changed,
it also happened with the *first* prints. I'm working out an article on
that for my upcoming Barks web-page, which leads me into the following

QUESTIONS FOR CARL BARKS
I don't know who asked for questions to Barks, but what I would like to
know is any detail Barks still can remember of the lost "golden apples"
and "bobsled race" stories. In the past he has given a vague recollection
of "golden apples", but - as far as I know - never one for "bobsled race".
Is there someone here who knows Barks good enough to ask him this burning
question of me? Or maybe there's someone who has plans to interview him
and is willing to ask it?

I think you're mixing up the "Carl Barks Library" and the "Carl Barks
Library in Color". The CBL is a hardcover collection of 30 books,
compiled in 10 sets. The CBLiC is a series of comic-book albums.
The albums are in colour, while the CBL has (almost) all stories in
black and white (which is how Barks drew them).
Both the CBL and the CBLiC *do* bow to the censors, but only not as much
as the current USA comic-reprints do.
GOLDIE SINGING "AFTER THE BALL":
In "Back to the Klondike" (US 2), Scrooge remembers Goldie singing a song
called "After the Ball". Recently it was mentioned here that this song
really existed. Is there someone here who has the lyrics and is willing
to post them?

I see discussions on Don Rosa's art. I feel an urge to reaffirm here my
great appreciation of his work. I think he managed to adhere to Barks'
spirit in a fertile and original way, something like Scarpa in the 50's did
with Floyd Gottfredson's work. One can of course like or not like his
drawings (I DO like them, although I realize they are quite different from
Barks'); but I think it's very difficult to question his scripts.
Particularly since we sort of decided this is Don's tenth anniversary in
Duckdom, I want to join the congratulations on him!
And by the way... Don, if you will be in Rome next month for Expocartoon,
can I hope to meet you?
