I voted for them, I've always hated them! The S-coded stories in which they
used to bother poor old Donald, I really hated them when I was a kid and
"Chip & Dale stories" had become a synonym of "horrible story" in my school

Who is Paperino Paperotto?
My vote would certainly go to Launchpad McQuack! Just the idea of having
character who is taking Donald's place in the stories is ridiculous. Lil'
Bad Wolf and the three little pigs are also good candidates. When I was
kid, I actually dreamed about reading a story where Big Bad Wolf at last
eats the pigs so that we could get rid of those stories.

I think that the poll was open to different interpretations.
You can "hate" a character because you identify yourself with another
character, who is constantly frustrated by the "hated" one: Donald Duck vs.
Chip'n'Dale, Zeke vs. Li'l Bad Wolf (and also the Three Little Pigs), but

But you can also "hate" a character because you find him/her to be neither
original nor funny, and the stories he/she appears in dull and forgettable:
here we have Melody (yet *another* niece, from early Studio stories), Zombi
(a mixture of Eega Beeva, Pflip and Atomino Bip-Bip, in horrible Italian
stories from the 70es), Aunt Tessie (a she-Goofy, from late Studio stories).
Finally, a character can be "hated" because you find he doesn't belong with
the tradition of Disney comics you've grown up with: I think this is the
reason why Paperino Paperotto (Young Donald Duck) got so many votes, and
probably the same goes for Launchpad McQuack. The "new" Paperinik (PKNA)
would have fallen in this class, methinks.
Of course, the above three categories can be mixed, depending on personal
taste. For example, I find most of the post-50es American stories with Li'l
Bad Wolf and Chip'n'Dale frankly terrible (so I can understand why Paolo
voted for the former, and Sprea for the latter). I personally like (a few
of) the Paperino Paperotto stories, but I know many people who think they're
all rubbish. Paperinika is surely a weak character, cloned from Paperinik
without any creativity, but I'm sure most of her votes come from the
reaction that we, (male) Italian children of the 70es, had when she was
introduced as a counterpart to Paperinik for girl readers... ;-)

The list was very interesting, thanks for posting it.
Not knowing about the foreign-language characters, I
agree that those lousy chipmunks and dreary
goody-goody L'il Bad Wolf are some of the most tedious
comics characters ever foisted upon an unsuspecting
public. But if Barks had been doing them, then who
knows?

Hi, let me first introduce myself,
I'm a young Norwegian Duck-fan and though I am a new subscriber to this list, I've read it
for a few months now.
Well... enough about me.
I would like to know if anyone here has read the story in this weeks Norwegian Donald Duck & Co,
called 'Autodidakten' (I don't know the English title, couldn't find it in INDUCKS)
It's a a Donald story, written by Per Hedman, drawings by Vicar.
In the story, Donald meets an old classmate who's a crazy inventor. An accident happens
when Donald goes to his home, and the former friend becomes evil and angry at everyone that
scorned him.
Driven by his rage, he forces Donald to help him make some sort of green fog. He then proceeds
towards a galla hosted by some scientists that mocked him earlyer in the story. There he scares
them with his fog, brainwashes Donald with a pair of head-phones. Donald stands up, and declares
that he serves his master 'the demon' and that with his superior force, the demon will soon take
over the world.
Then they go to 'Andeby Eksportråd' (loosely translated; Duckburg Tradecenter!!!), located in a
tall, towerlike building in dowtown Duckburg.
Here he plans to release a bigger version of his fogcreation, and in one huge panel, we
see the Duckburg Tradecenter from the outside, smoke pouring out and around the windows,
people running scared in the streets, and out of the smoke a demonical figure appears.
Naturaly, the nephews save them all in the end, and everyone is happy,
but.....
Doesn't this story in a strange way remind you of the realworld disaster in New York?
If this story was written after the tragedy, it must surely be based on that. And in that
case, I'm not realy sure if this was tasteless or not.
I would guess it could become cencored in some countries, or maybe just the text and
some of the panels altered.
Has this story appeared in any other country yet? And what do the American members
of this list think of this?
