Hi Olaf (and all)!
The machine is a "nucleonic linear emisser" (what else could it be called? ;) ). Gyro got the idea
from the SF magazine "Far Out Stories", featuring "Ten Seconds to Mars", by Spicer Willits.
(another cross-thread; this time fans instead of creators)
The story is "Stranger than Fiction" (WDC&S 249, June '61) (Album 42).

Yes! A very "clean and direct" reference (not important for the sttory's
plot, indeed).

with the paint contest with Little Crack and Andold? Around ten creators (or
editors) hidden in some panels.The same Dave, too.
I wrote the complete list in an introduction of ZP.
And in other Rota's stories there are Elisa Pennas, Franco Fossati's,
Lostaffa's and other friends in some portraits. The Donaldus Anas (latin
story, for example. Gaudenzio capelli, too.
And Ezio Sisto appairs in TWO stories of last years. One of 'em is surely
the Silvia Ziche's "Toponovela", some two years ago.
And my very name, is written on a sign in Maranello (Ferrari's town) in an
old Doinald's story drawn by Cavazzano.
Already is hidden also in a panel of a Don's story. And in another there is

Junior Woodchucks when Clinton Coot founded the club, and 50 years later
they visit the big Woodchuck gathering in Duckburg and are drawn in one
frame. I don't remember which one.
Was Byron Erickson there too? Really? I wouldn't have noticed him, though,
since I don't know what he looks like, but he sure is a nice guy working
for...

I remember also a special edition of "Pato Donald" ("Pato Donald"
#1500,I guess)that Victor Civita appear togheter with Donald i a B-coded, to celebrate the comic and the publisher...!
Last year, Editora Abril planned to do the same, this time with Donald acting with Civita's son, Roberto Civita, into the "Pato Donald" special of 50 years, but this time the Disney Company Brazil doesn't
permited Abril to publish it, 'cause they saw this as an advertising of Abril...!!!
So, it's writte, drew, inked and it wasn't published, and probably never will be...! :(

There are a couple more familiar names in Rosa's stories, including M.
Kotovirta, David Gerstein, Didier Ghez, and me.
(And I think we already mentioned Fausto Oneto of U Giancu.)
I have not made a list of these (e.g. in Inducks), since it may spoil the
fun, and/or it may keep the artist from doing such things in the future.

Last night on a local TV quiz show (New Zealand that is), they asked the
question "What is Uncle Scrooge's surname?" I wasn't surprised that nobody
knew the answer.
On the subject of names appearing in Don Rosa stories, there was also the
mention of "Coral Barques". This was in the story where U$ and the boys get
a photo of the map of the sunken Spanish treasure fleet in the Florida Keys
(I don't recall the story's title). How was this reference handled in
non-English translations?
