I've seen in the Gerber photo journal that there was a Donald Duck
Christmas giveaway 1944. It has the same cover as WDC #51 but the colors
differ. I can't find this one in inducks. Can anyone tell me about it ?
How many pages, color or black and white, comics or stories or both, or
whatever ? Of course if someone can tell about it's contents that would
be great. I mean if the comics (if there were any) has been reprinted
somewhere.

Got one right here...
It's a 16 page "self-covered" (cover is same newsprint paper as interior)
giveaway for toy stores at Xmas 1944. It opens with 6 pages of Taliaferro
Donald Duck newspaper strips, and then contains the first story from FOUR
COLOR #19 ("The Seven Dwarfs meet Thumper").

As the starting bid was only $250, and the winning bid was not much higher
than the original price of $1000, especially if you take inflation into
account, I wonder if there is much demand for these sets. I can see why this
would be so, as most, if not all of Barks stories have now been printed in
other, easier to read formats, and in color, too. It's been ages since I last
opened any of my sets. As for the articles, if I hadn't wanted to get my full
money's worth from these sets, I doubt if I would have read more than a
couple, and I certainly don't remember any of them. Reading about Barks'
stories is nowhere near as exiting as reading the stories themselves!
The closing price of $1424.99 makes me wonder if it was the result of a long
bidding session between Scrooge and Glomgold:

Roy Disney has quit, and wants Michael Eisner to do the same!
According to the bbc:
'He bemoaned what he characterised as the "rapacious, soul-less" corporate

yes and no, tommy kirk was homosexual, but he was an actor not an animator.
and he was already passed the prime age for kid actors when he switched
from disney to beach party movies - so I am not sure which was the reason

This is somehow non-Disney-comics related but,
The December edition of the Finnish Reader's Digest (Valitut Palat)
had a minor article about some unusual occupations, and among those
there's Mr. Jeffry Glanzer who's working with the giant statues carved
into rock at Mt. Rushmore.
In the article there's nothing related to Disney comics, but it was
Barks' 10-pager WDC 204 (statue of Senator Snoggin at Mt. Mushmore,
1957) where Donald Duck had a similar job. According to the text
Mr. Glanzer repairs cracks and the effects of whethering, but it
doesn't say if he also need to clean out ears or evict nesting birds
from the eyelids?

He was indeed fired by Disney when he revealed his sexual preference, one of the first motion picture regulars to do so. While often found himself cast in "campus comedies" like THE MONKEY'S UNCLE, THE SHAGGY DOG, and THE ABSENT MINDED PROFESSOR, his early roles for Disney were more serious and revealing of deep sensitivity on his part. His standout performance was as young Travis in OLD YELLER.
His decision to publicly admit that he is gay limited his ability to find work at other studios in the 1960s. He turned to drugs and alcohol for a while, but eventually cleaned up got involved with gay rights groups. He seems to have patched up relations with the Disney company in recent days, and he appears in documentaries and contributed to commentaries on the DVD editions of SWISS FAMILY ROBINSON and OLD YELLER.

It's just bother me for while :
In *The Last of Clan McDuck* it was shown theat Fergus was spay'ing on
Scrooge whaile he was erning his first Dime. How do you think did he sow
what happent : Theat Magica did give Scrooge the Dime not theat guy with
dirty shues. I wonder what he was thinking wen he seen it.
And in "Dream of Life Time" (I only sow dis Story once sow maby Im wrong)
Fergus was in home while Scrooge were erning his First Dime.

Thanks to Dan for the fascinating info on Tommy Kirk. I have a lot of
nostalgia wrapped up in the live-action Disney films, and I found the post
quite fascinating. I was just curious if you could point me in the direction
of a book or article about Kirk and/or the firing. How clear was it that he
was fired because he was homosexual? Was this a Walt decision? How openly did
Kirk come out of the closet?
Disney company history fascinates me, and I'm fascinated by all of the
personalities involved. I had been curious about Kirk and biographical stuff
for a while, but I have seen little info out there about him. Like Steven
Rowe, I had just figured that the studio just had no use for Kirk after the mid-
sixties. He's a pretty good actor, but after Old Yeller, they really put him
in some really crappy roles.

Back in August, I missed the issue of WDC&S 635. Would any of the list
members happen to have an extra copy they'd be willing to part with? Obviously I'd
be willing to pay for the original cost of the comic itself, plus
shipping/handling and maybe a few more dollars besides for your trouble. I have every
Gemstone comic except that one unfortunetly, so I'd really like to get this
one(especially to read part 1 of Don Rosa's Three Caballeros story among other
things). So email me if you have one and want to part with it. :)
