I noticed mention in our List of the Italian version of Rosa's Lo$ published
in a very inexpensive (~$6!!!) HC book. I'm truly amazed by this price when
Gladstone's CHEAPEST version of its HC Rosa book stands at $80. I understand
that cost and/or demand conditions may differ, but nevertheless the $6 price
IS astounding!
Could any of our Italian "duck comrades" be so kind as to send me a copy? In
exchange I could send back: (a) Gladstone comics/albums, (b) Greek Disney
comics, or, (c) good, old money.

understood me correctly. The idea was, that everyone interested would
send their "normal" address to me ((Email removed) , subject:X-mas).
Then after the deadline (7.12.) everyone who sent their address to me
will receive a complete list of all addresses via e-mail. Then you just
choose as many people you want and send them a card. I'm not so good at
explaining, but I hope I made my point...
Actually I could also send the final list of addresses to the list, too,
if you like. Let me know what you think!

PAPERINIK (PKNA) : just a few comments
The first issue I got was last summer's Special, which featured some really
outstanding art.
I particularly liked the Angus Fangus shorts (Silvia Ziche is one of the
best artists we have in Italy nowadays, BTW), but didn't like the "main"
stories very much... it seemed to me that Donald was completely out of
place in this super-beings saga, very Marvel/DC-like, especially in its
being mostly uncomprehensible, if you missed the first issues and/or the
various zero numbers (three, in this case...).
I got two more issues, then I stopped, I really didn't like it.
I feel, however, that's a bit unfair to make comparisons with the original
Paperinik character; this is a completely different business, starting with
the name, a distinction I believe was intended by the authors.
Paperinik, in fact, is very seldom addressed to as such, in the new
stories, instead he is usually called either PK or PIKAPPA, and with this
name is referred to by the kids that, I reckon, are the comic's main
target, perhaps even luring them from the above super-hero stuff or the
mangas. Who knows ? Perhaps, one day, they could even discover who a Mr.
Carl Barks is...
However, revamping a character that got a bit... dusty, sometimes gives
extraordinary results, like in the case of "Sandman", or extremely funny
ones, like "Lobo"... er... BTW, it's not strictly Disney-related, more a
parody of a parody, but did anybody read "Lobo the Duck" ?

I jumped on my seat as well, as soon as I read of HARRY getting a copy of
the book in Holland, and at cover price, too !
It was supposed to be sold only at the Comics Expo in Rome, last week, and
since I live some 500 miles away, I was nearly resigned that I would miss
it.
I made an even higher jump, though, when I learned that a neighbor of mine
was there, and bought TEN copies of the book.
Before you even ask, I'll tell you it will be a tough job... he's not
selling, at the moment. The guy is a strange fellow, for a comic books fan;
he's got a nearly complete collection of the "Topolino" series (some 2000
issues...), but he couldn't tell Romano Scarpa from Romano Prodi if he sat
in his lap... he doesn't read the comics, you see... he bought Rosa's books
as an investment...
But I won't give up very easily, and I might as well keep pesterin' him for
two books. I'll let you know.

How many "local" versions of the Don Rosa book already exist, or are
planned for the near future ? I know of Gladstone's, the Italian,
Norwegian, Dutch and Swedish versions so far (There surely must be a Danish
one, I guess).
I've half a mind of getting them all, if I can...
Are there shops that you know of that could ship the book to Italy upon
credit card payment ? Any addresses ?

There is a Danish book indeed, but (again:) NO Dutch hard-cover book.

Well, the average age is lower than I expected, in fact I
always think the "typical" Disney fan who is possible to meet
in Italy is a little bit older than the resulting average age
of 28.3 years.
We gained three female voters too, whose average age is
considerably lower: 20 years (the male-only average is 29
years).
The most represented country in this survey resulted to be
Norway, with the 25% of votes. This is the listing:

what we can learn from this survey is tha surely Donald and
$crooge have beaten all the other charachters, and that WE
mouse fans are getting too old :-( Don is doing a great job,
and he is probably the one who is hooking the newer
generations, while Barks reprints are appreciated only by the
ones who read them before. (sigh!).
Even my attempt to advertise Mickey, using his face for the
survey pages' background had no result: Mickey gained only 10%
of the preferences, while Scrooge and Donald together gained
77% of votes (respectively 44% and 33%)

This is the last posting of the International Disney Survey,
I'm sorry for the delay (too much working :-( )
Well, the average age is lower than I expected, in fact I
always think the "typical" Disney fan who is possible to meet
in Italy is a little bit older than the resulting average age
of 28.3 years.
We gained three female voters too, whose average age is
considerably lower: 20 years (the male-only average is 29
years).
The most represented country in this survey resulted to be
Norway, with the 25% of votes. This is the listing:

It is interesting to see how the average age of voters who said

the old ones, who, maybe, had the possibility to read some of
his best stories such as Gottfredson's or Scarpa's (just like
me...).

The stories you are talking about are from the italian artist Giulio
Chierchini with colours from Leopoldo Barbarini. The charachter who
chews gum is called "Little Gum" (the name is in english even in
Italy). I never enyoied his stories, like many other people I think
since he is not appearing anymore. BTW I don't like that way of
colouring stories neither.

They are THE WORST thing I've ever seen on a Disney publication!!

Bad Wolf ant the three little pigs ate some super goobers.... What a
shame!!! :-(

All the news about the italian version of Rosa's Life of Scrooge are
true: it is an excellent publication with 292 pages, each copy of it
numbered, all the 12 chapters, all the corvers from Rosa and the ones
used in the italian edition from Marco Rota (excellent drawings), all
the articles from Rosa himself for the introduction of each chapter
with some adds and explanations from Alberto Becattini, the Duck family
tree, a new drawing from Don and (dulcis in fundo) at a price of 10.000
lire.... 6 dollars!!!!
The bad news are that the book was for sale only at Expocartoon a fair
hold in Rome about 15 days ago. It will be possible to buy it again
only by sending to Disney Italiana a coupon that will be published on
#99 of "Zio Paperone" next month if there will be still some copies....
BTW I suppose that with 1 coupon someone can order just 1 book.
However there will be another edition to sell in kiosks: the 30th of
november (hey, it's tomorrow...) will be published another edition of
THE SAME book but not with hard cover and it should cost 8.500 lire...
4.8 dollars!!!!
This is really the time to say THANK YOU to the men of Walt Disney
Italia who with their effort made it possible: it's really a GREAT
christmas present!!!!!!!!

I'm currently working on a profile for the Gottfredson character "Glory-Bee"
and have come to an interesting quandry which I'm hoping someone on the
list can help with. In the database is a reference to a Sunday Dutch comic by
Bill Walsh and Manuel Gonzales:
