Let me add my own praise to the last two Gladstone issues. Good to know, from

But Rosa's stories, as always, were the highlights of the issues. I loved the
Cutty Sark story especially (since I was actually *on* the ship during an
unforgettable summer journey with my first real love, many years ago), but it
was also great to see "War of the Wendigo" in English.
Is anyone else from the list going to try to attend the Boston convention Don
will be coming to next month? If so, maybe we could get a group together...

That's a good question! Somebody in my story will surely be talking
"Kalevalian". But why should I put all that extra work into the dialogue
if it will never be seen in the language I write it in!?!? The translator in
Finland (Jukka Lindfors) will certainly write the translation in the proper
rhythm and verse, but if I first go to all the trouble of writing the
English version in that form, it will help him not in the least.

Too early to talk. I won't start work on it until next month.
But in the meantime, I recently did do one other special job just for AKU
ANKKA -- a, well... *rather spectacular* cover to go with their printing of
"Cowboy Captain of the Cutty Sark" next month. Nobody else had asked me for
a cover until they did, not even Gladstone. And this'n's a pretty nice one,
especially with the great coloring job they did on it (that they sent me a
copy of). I combine all the most exciting story scenes into one (very
"inaccurate") cover scene which will only be seen in Finland.

Hello everyone, its been a while since I've posted to the list, and I have a
couple reasons: I'm in school and working a lo, meaning I have very little
time (and money) for comics or mailing lists, but I do try to read the
digest every day, even if its just to see if there's an interesting message
from Don Rosa :-). Over my christmas break, I have been working on a page
with Ander Christian Sivebaek to display the single and multi-part versions
of Dons stories. I must admit, Anders has done A LOT more than me. It
should be up before the end of the month, and we will post the URL here.
Anyway, on to the content of my message:

In reading the latest digest, someone mentioned that Egmont should publish a
bi-annual albumn with Don's stories in english. I would like to profess
myundying support for this idea :-). Not only would they get many sales
from America. I know every Don Rosa fan in the world likes to see his
stories in their native language. In the event that egmont doesn't go for
this idea, I have a question:

Don - will you post the english scripts of your stories on the net?
Although this wouldn't be the best option, it would be a good last resort.

I was going to ask this question of Gary from Gladstone in a private
e-mail, but then thought that my question may be of interest to some
others on the list.

I am quite sad and depressed about the possibility that no one will get
the license to Disney Comics in the US and that they will be a thing of
the past. I think a great many other people on the list feel the same
way. Hopefully though I have thought of a way we could make a tiny
difference in this.

Here is where your part comes in Gary! :) Could you tell us the name of
the person at Disney who is in charge of whether anyone gets the license
again? If so, could you then tell us a way we could contact him either
by e-mail, snail-mail, or phone. I would like to write him a polite and
sincere letter saying how special Disney comics are to me and what a
terrible shame it would be if there were to no longer be anymore Disney
comics in the country and in the language in which they started.
Perhaps if other people on the list would contact this person also and
write and tell him how strongly they also felt about this it could make
a difference. I realize that that is a pretty naive thought, but I
don't see how trying could hurt.

So Gary, I'll thank you in advance for whatever help you are able to
provide with info on this person! I'd be interested to hear on the list
if anyone else thinks this might be a good idea.

trouble (strange enough that an anti-virus-program can do all that...)

This is an absurd thought, sorry! You don't know what level of corporate
magnitude you're referring to! Egmont is a *huge* publisher who would only
be interested in sales in the hundreds of thousands, and of such a nature
that the sales are automatic and do not need to be solicited for.

An entire script? An entire DISNEY-owned script??? That's copyright
infringement. No, sorry, I can't personally be involved in something like
that!!!

Sure. It's also always been possible to jump off a cliff or blast yourself
with a shotgun, but I wouldn't suggest it.

I think the appropriate expression is "ROFL", though there might be a vastly
stronger one that I'm unfamiliar with.

I certainly hope, that the ORIGINAL Rosa will be printed sometime in the future,
though it will not be from Gladstone. Reading the original text in Barks and
Rosa's stories has always been a pleasant experience - though I have read the
story in Danish the first time. It gives the opportunity to really enjoy a good
translation - or at least the good original.

I just wanted to chime in and say that I also like the idea of Egmont
publishing a few albums in English a year of Don Rosa stories. It
wouldn't be as good as having Disney comics published in the US but it
would be the next best thing!

Also I would like to think that Egmont could also publish a few albums
in English a year of William Van Horn stories. While I would of course
miss Disney comics by all the other wonderful authors and artists, if I
knew I could get all the Rosa and Van Horn stories that would make
loosing Disney comics in the US at least bearable.
