Thanks for the article, Luca!

I've read it and understand it even if the accented characters were
changed by unreadable ones.

I talked about the Murry story too in a "Picsou" article one year ago,
published in the "CBD", and noticed that his personality was very
different from Barks' ideas (except for "Christmas on Bear Mountain").
He is bad tempered and shrewish in the Murry story, he even wishs that
Donald's house will burn (that's what I have in the French reprint).

Interesting. We might as well try to find the first non-Barks
appearances of other Barks' creations, like Gyro Gearloose (by DeLara?),
Gladstone, etc.

I've found another early US appearance in:

Bye!

Hi all,

Does someone know what's Catfoot's first appearance. Perhaps in one of
the first MM serial in WDC&S. And the first story where Murry mentionned
his name? As Rich pointed out, his look also changes, and it's not
obvious that we should consider him as one unique character. The one
with the very long nose, for instance, is a different character.

Catfoot is used consisitently in France at least (same name and same
look), for instance in the James Goof series.

Hi everybody!

I'm delurking for the first time in well over a year to let you know I'm
still alive, to answer a question, and to ask one myself.

BILL:

Probably because a censor thought "Gee, I haven't censored anything
in a while, better ban a story or two so my boss will think I'm doing
a good job."

Seriously, I believe the "reason" was the Indians that all look alike.

I don't know the details of comic printing, but I doubt that printing
a story _without_ Disney's permission is that much different from
printing one _with_ permission. ;-)

I must say I'm sorry about what happened to Gladstone, althought it wasn't
exactly unexpected. Is it possible to get back issues from Gladstone or
the Bruce Hamilton Company? There are still some back issues and albums
I would really like to get.

You're absolutely right. Only three panels (and one with his huge car)
in a forgotten Grandma's story, called in Italy "NP e il progresso".

Ahem..., well, eh.. I have to admit I saw the name Weasel there and
immediately ruled it out as not being the character I looked for. Without
reading further or checking what he looked like. Conclusions that are
jumped at will most often be wrong. No exception in this case. Actually the
name Weasel made me think of a character called "Viggo Vesel" in Norwegian.
Viggo Vesel is, of course, a weasel, but now I recall that this character
appears in Chip'n Dale stories (I think), not together with Black Pete.

To make the confusion absolute, I should mention that
Catfoot/Scuttle/Weasel has no regular name in Norwegian either. He is just
referred to as "Skaftetryne" which is a description of his looks. It means
something like "handlemug", mug being vulgar for face. "Skaftetryne" was
the name used in the newspaper.

That's what makes me worried while I wait for the next "I Maestri Disney"
to hit the newsstands... :-(

I called him Weasel at first, because of his inconsistent name. But some
time ago David explained (I think) that Scuttle is his name in the
"official" Egmont list (they use this name in their English scripts), so we
changed his name to Scuttle in the Database, too.

Because someone at Disney thought that showing all those identical
pygmy indians would be offensive to native Americans, as if the story's
message had been "all indians look alike"!!!

I suppose because the worst thing that Disney could do would be to
revoke their license!

Hello!

Is there something wrong with the mailing list? I have not received any
messages since the one cited above.

Neither have I. Except yours, that is 8-). Let's see if we can make a digest
out of these two messages...

I was wondering if the list was very quiet, or if there was some wrong
on the maliing list too.

Has someone seen the last Maestri Disney issue? What about that famous
article on the time-machine series? Is it very good or just extremely
interesting? :-)

FREDRIK:

The Bruce Hamilton Company is in operation, and Gladstone still exists,
too, though it is currently inactive in terms of new publishing. Back
issues of Gladstones are available from us, and will continue to be for the
immediate future.

As for the future of US Disney comics, there's nothing new to report at
this time.

It is both very good and extremely interesting :-))

Well, actually, it says what Marco had told us it would say... I don't think
that anybody cut anything out of it.

and.. you meant "latest", didn't you?? :-))) (that's a mistake I always
make... at last I've managed in spotting someone else :-)

PS. Francois, you got my stuff?

hi,

it is possible to get copies of every issue of gladstone comics published,
directly from gladstone, all 639 issues, for US$2,606. This according to the
inside back cover or the last Gladstone issue of WDC, #633.

Interesting features on issue #112 of "Zio Paperone", on sale today.

Lidia kept her promise, and printed a 25-line apology titled "Sorry,
David!" explaining how they got David Gerstain's name erroneously printed
several times as "GerNstein", while David started feeling "a pain in his
heart" for this. She promised it will NEVER happen any more!

A new section, "Gli altri Paperoni" started out, printing two nice stories
by Jack Bradbury. This chance to talk about Disney authors different from
the usual bunch of three-four is VERYYYYY nice. Congratulation, Luca! I
hope you'll also be able to talk about SCRIPTERS and not only artists.

And last (in the sense that it is being printed in the LAST pages of the
magazine!) comes a Chronology of the stories by Don Rosa! Not VERY updated
(AR 107 was printed on "ZP 110" and that's not reported...; and a note to
AR 103 says that "Gladstone is currently the American publisher of Disney
Comics"...) but a Good Thing altogether.
Ah - and a tiny tiny note in the first page says <special thanks to Harry
Fluks whose chronology, that appeared on the book "Don Rosa e il
rinascimento Disneyano", has been the starting point for this "reasoned
chronology">. So, Harry, you are getting famous among Italian readers too!
(At least among the not-so-much-far-sighted ones...) ;-)
