Oh, I thought it was the Scrooge story about the Martians, "Lost Beneath the Sea".
(I see this was already revealed in a different message, but I knew it before I read that one. Honestly.)

I think I have some advantage here, since I read a LOT of Barks stories very recently, in English. Five years or so ago, I stopped reading Barks stories (in any language), after having read them over and over for decades. I wanted to forget them, so I could read them again as fresh stories in due time.
And now that I'm reading them again, there ARE many things that I didn't remember. O joy!

I also recently read "Hall of the Mermaid Queen" again, and I didn't even remember how *bad* that story was! 8-)

Dear all,

I have for quite a while been looking for some nice ASCII-art, that is
shown while loggin into our IRC server (irc.inducks.org, port 6667).
Also it should be used when Thomas and I manage to connect inducks.org
with irc.inducks.org in order to establish a real "IRC network".

Needless to say it should display a duck or a mouse or another Disney
character. A colour version would be prefered. Any ideas?

Well, I don't think anyone who experienced that was ever able to tell the
tale. They'd be in Davy Jones' Locker. That was all made up! I mean, the
various aspects of the explosion were accurate... the noise, the pyroclastic
flow, the tidal wave, the rain of rocks and ash... but any ship nearby was
simply never heard from again... it didn't surf the curl.
One detail I was surprised to learn was (since you ask) saying "the eruption
of Krakatoa" is a bit of a misnomer for the event. Krakatoa was not the name
of the volcano (can't recall what that was without going and checking) so
Krakatoa can't erupt, and what happened was not an "eruption" as in bubbling
forth lava like a normal lil' eruption. What happened was a type of volcanic
explosion deep underground, that's why there was so much noise and violence!
A similar island-explosion would be that of the Greek island of Thera about
3,000-4,000 years ago. I'm sure you heard about it -- it was in all the
papers.

Sorry, I did that story too many years ago to recall the books I got from
the local library or wherever. I should write down reference book titles in
my notes because sometimes I need to go back and check details for annotated
texts for special editions, or to do a sequel or such. And I never know
where I got all the research (even though I still have my reams of notes,
whether used or not).

I see someone gave you a link to a site where someone else posted my answer
to that very question when I was asked once before. I can't improve on that
answer -- did you manage to find the site?

In response to Daniel's question about "the postman always rings twice"
line in INTERPLANETARY POSTMAN: "The Postman Always Rings Twice" is the
name of a famous American story by James M. Cain that was made into a
movie with John Garfield and Lana Turner (I've never cared for it myself,
but it's very well known here in the States).

In response to Lars Jensen's comments on my Ducktales comments: I didn't
mean my comments as a criticism of Ducktales. I personally love the show.
Someone had said that Rosa had no right to regard Ducktales as an
"unauthorized" take on Barks' universe, since his stories are also
"unauthorized." I was just pointing out that Ducktales made many more
sweeping changes to the Duck universe than Rosa has, and is unpopular
among some members of this mailing list as a result. Sorry for the
confusion.
