It's simple. The head people/person at the "Egmont Comic Creations" division
decided they didn't like the characters. The look and future of these comics
is decided by the editors currently in charge, right or wrong. And from time
to time they change their minds, or a new guy/gal is put in charge.
As to WHY they might take a dislike to a character (or a story type, or an
artist, or etc.) you'd need to find out directly from that editor(s).

70 years of Donald Duck, which starts this Saturday and runs until 29

Here are the Disney comics in the Top 300 sales for the US in March 2004:

All in all, not a bad month. I'm glad the low end of Disney sales seems to be
creeping up from the 4000's into the 5000's. DDA is down a bit from last
month, but not too much.
To Gary Leach: Thanks for answering my questions. Personally, I think it
rather sucks that Disney has that much control over the advertising in the comics,
but that's just me.

from the duck stories I usually like, but something about them
amuses me. Maybe it's the sly jabs at Men in Black.

I've been wondering about a character who appeared a couple months back
in Gemstone's Uncle Scrooge 327--Scrooge's cousin Douglas McDuck. As far
as I can tell, Douglas has never appeared in an American comic before. Is
he a Romano Scarpa creation? Did he come into existence in the sixties,
like Fethry? Or did the story's author create him just for this story? If
he's been around for a long time, what are his antecedents? Reading his
dialogue, I couldn't decide whether his accent was Scotch or American
"hillbilly." The way he dresses seems to indicate he's a hillbilly, but
his first name and relationship to Scrooge would seem to indicate he was
at least born in Scotland. Any info on this character?

I have to agree that they certainly are more different from the normal
stuff. Heh. Almost reminds me of what you'd imagine Donald doing if this
were an old school Disney Afternoon show. Though I have to admit I'm still
not too keen on Fleming Anderson's stuff. (though I will say I liked the art
for the second story above the first)
