Thanks for the clarification, Ari and Eta Beta. I was confused, because for
some reason I assumed that a checker board looks different and has more
squares than a chessboard. Blush! I live and I learn.
I remember when I read that story as a kid in Lustiges Taschenbuch 66, it
was the first time that I came across that legend concerning the inventor of
chess, and I was quite fascinated by it, as you can guess. I have to look
for that comic, when I next visit my parents, and read it again.

This might have been mentioned before, but I couldn't find references to
this when I looked atthe last weeks of digests. So: check www.raptus.no
for the "Raptus Festival", kindly named after Raptus von Rupp, or Ludwig
von Drake, which takes place mid-Septemberish every year in Bergen, Norway.
This year the dates are Fri Sept 13 to Sun Sept 15, and among this year's
"star invitees" is Don Rosa. -- It is not quite clear to me (or to him) what
exactly is being planned for him during the festival. Apparently there will be
some TV coverage featuring Don. Also, there will be occasion to buy his two
Norwegian-made and edited in Norway "Pertwillaby Papers" and "Captain
Kentucky" hardcover books, at the Avalon Bergen bookstore (or at their stands
located at the festival place).
I have been asked about Don's plans this time outside the Bergen Festival days.
He briefly passes through Oslo on his way to Raptus, to meet friends, but there
will be no time for anything "organised" on this occasion.

Why do you give an approximate number?
The exact figure is 18446744073709551615
which is one less than the 64th power of 2.

wife checked the office files and the article was
published in the June issue in Brasil, Denmark,
France, Korea, Norway, Taiwan and Tureky as well as
America. In Denmark it's page 12, and Norway page 13.

Yup, that's me. I contributed quite a few things to Pedro's 'Lagaffe me
gate' and 'Et il crea Franquin' sites, in fact much more than I actually got
credit for. I ditto your hearty recommendation. I only wish he could find
someone to translate the whole thing into English, so more people could
appreciate it.

The Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang (VG) presents an
article called "al-Quaida inspired by Donald Duck?".
The first few lines says: "It?s in the story 'Attack
of the Space.Varmints' from 1987, by the famous
Disney-creator Don Rosa that the near prophetic events
take place."
The article however concludes that there are no reason
to believe that Don Rosa can ble blamed for the events
of September 11th 2001.
What the paper doesn't mention is that in an other
story by Don Rosa a plane is flying around Scrooges
twin-towers to awoid chrashing in them.
Anyway I think that the article may be a trick from
Egmont to get attention around Don Rosa's visit to
Bergen in a few days.

Dutch comic convention in Den Bosch

While Rosa is in Norway, and Leach is on his way to Denmark, the Dutch will
have there annual comics convention this weekend (14+15 September) in Den
Bosch.
One thing they will do is celebrate 50 years of Dutch DONALD DUCK weekly.
I don't know HOW they will celebrate though. All I know is that there will
be an exhibition. And the usual stand with Disney artists will be there.
Anyway: I will be there on Saturday afternoon.
So maybe I'll see you there - or at least some of you. 8-)

supports women in moslem societies fighting for
freedom and respect, and it also support the American
and Israeli campaigns against blind terrorism.
