In Branca's "Outmaneuveing Magica"(D 6982), the sorceress turns herself into a bird. I think the bird is the same seen on the panels 3 and 4 on the page 11 of Barks' " Rug Riders In The Sky". Am I right??

Don't know if he's called Degenhart in Germany, but certainly not Dagobert,
because that's the German name for Scrooge.

Hi friends
I still have a feeling of sailing in my body, as i sailed a lot this last
days. 3 pm this afternoon I said goodbye to the 2 last of the 4 friends
I've spend this last half of this week with.
It all started thursday - after having had my hair done for for this
occasion (it had gotten too long, as usual) I drove to struer railway
station to meet my two friends S?ren and Thomas. S?ren is a dcml-member,
founder of the Danish Donaldist Society (in cooperation with me), and
genreally a huge donaldist with a larger collection of weeklies than me.
Thomas is also on dcml, duckhunter, webmaster of www.ducburg.dk, and the
person together with whom I'm publishing a written Don Rosa-index soon.
Both have been my friends for years now - and we meet last at our summer
meeting in the donalidist club this summer.
We shook hands, went to the car with the bagage and then went to take with
us some pizzas from a local place, that I have visited many times with 3
other good friends.
Then the way went to Nissum, where I attend teacher's college. We first
went to the florr where I live, to eat our pizzas. Then we went for a walk
where I showed Thjomas and S?ren around on the palces I come daily. Then
to the school magazines editing room. We have two computers there and we
used them for coming online and talking to friends on the mirc-channel
dcml. As time neared 9.30 pm we went to my dads car and started on the
trip to Hanstholm.
When we got there we drove a bit around to find a good place to park. My
father had proposed to me to take the power of, so I did that. (Only a
couple of weeks ago someone had broken into it and tried to start it - but
well, it's a Tioyota from 1985 - not possible)
We then went to the ferry-information and got our boarding card - just as
we had gotten them Jesper Pedersen arrived with his grandparents. He's a
donaldist too, and one of the friends with whom we had spend the msummer
meeting earlier this year. He's webmaster of www.webdisney.dk and also a
Rosa-fan.
We went upstairs and waited for a long time. Luckily we had enough to talk
about. I showed of the local paper with a 3-page article about our
Donaldist society and my interest in Donald. S?ren was reading the
Donaldism by Jon Gisle, Thomas had made new prints of the coming Rosa
index and the next fanzine from our society. Both looked very great, we're
lucky to have such good lay-outers.
Time goes slow when you're looking forward to something, biut the ferry
did arrive on time and we got on it, and found the large room with
sleeping chairs. After placing them we went for a trip on the boat and
took a walk in the taxfree shop and we also bought all the Duck-magazines
the reception had. Donald Duck & Co., the extra, called Mikke Mus, the
Donald pocketbook and the Skrue (Scrooge) pocket which carries reprints.
We then went to sleep and had a very nice night with close to no waves at
all. Next mnorning at 7 it was the meaning of life for some lady in the
loudspeakers to wake us up, so we did... - we got breakfast - I bought a
juice with raspberry - names kjeft - this word is a synonym for mouth. To
tell someone to holde kjeft, is to tell them to shut up. Shut Up I then
set to S?ren. Do it yourself said S?ren - i am, I said and showed him the
juice. This would evolve a lot on the hometrip but now let's carry on.
The time untill we arrived in Bergen, was spent on talking, reading in
different litterature and shopping. We learned that we would be in harbour
at 3.45 pm - 15 minutes later than planned. this later became half an hour
delay.
When we arrived I was the frist to see our dear norwegian friend Sigvald
in the window in thew arrival hall. When we all got there we shook hands
with our friend, who we also meet last at the big summermeeting. Sigvald
had heard about our delay at around 3.20 - at 3.50 his friend from
University, where they both studied history turned up and offered
transport - but she had to fetch her car. Heidi Schjetne was her name, and
she was one of the many very nice persons we meet on the trip! Because of
the traffic she couldn't be back at the harbour before 4.20 where she
fetched us and we drove to the Greighall. - BTW 6 perople in one car is
not a very good idea, but maneged (says I, who was on the front passenger
seet...)
At 4.30 we arrived at the Grieghall where the Raptus-frestival took place.
After first trying a wrong entrance we found the right one and got our
tickets.
We maneged to hear the last 5 minutes of an interview with Don that was
being made in the auditorium. Don was talking about the beginning of his
career - at the *same* time (somehow that impressed me) he was drawing a
Scrooge-head on a paper which was thrown on a large whiteboard. As he had
finished telling the story of the manifest destiny it was translated - and
in that moment, or so we saw it, Don drew some obscure signs in a speaking
buble coming from the Scrooge drawing.
As the interview was finished we went to the podium where Don had stood. I
said to Don (with a slightly shaking voice perhaps, this was the first
time ever I talked to my favorite living Duck-artist) We from Duckhunt and
the danish donaldist society are here. - I mentioned Sigvald and Don asked
Sigvald if he had brought his artwork with him. Sigvald sure had! Don then
left for a short break and I took a few snapshots of Sigvalds fandrawing
(without the moustache) and it was even envyed by some other fans in the
room.
We found to the way to the large room where we went down the stairs and
started to dstand in line. In the auditiorium one of the raptus-leaders
had told how one could buy a cardboard for 25 kr, and how this would go ot
a good purpouse. As we stood in line S?ren, jesper and Thomas decided to
get themselves each one of these - but I didn't need one, as my finnish
friend was so kind to have Don make me a drawing last year.
As we stood in line we talked a lot about finally being so close to the
cartoonist who is the favorite of many norwegians (and hopefully of many
of the ones standing in line - something tells me they really were :-).
When we reached the top of the dstairs and around a column I went over to
speak with some people at a table. I asked if they had any issues of the
Donaldist, as their table looked like one for fanzines. It showed that the
man at the table was Jan P. Krogh who is one of the norwegian donaldists
in the club for comic fans. He even told me about the museum where some
rooms are dedicated to our dear ducks. I found that very interesting and
told about our danish donaldist society - We made an appointment of
contact between us.
Already while on the stairs, Heidi, the friendly transporter and friend
started to interview Sigvald about the idea that he had send to Don some
years ago - which was published as a story (Gyro's first invention) in
weeklies 19 and 20 this year. We would later find out for what purpouse
this interview was done.
Sigvald also went on a walk to find the issues with the story, and to look
for the Piped Piper of Duckburg for a danish friend who couldn't come on
this trip.
Sigvald didn't find these comics, but the salesman recognized him as
Sigvald, a Rosa fan, as Sigvald has homepages online.
Jesper also took the chance to leave the line, as we kept his space, to
buy the Pertwillaby Papers book from the Gazette Bok publisher.
Sigvald was showing his drawing to Heidi when other people standing in
line started to notice it too. At some point one third of the line in
front of us were looking on Sigvald's drawing instead of in the direction
of Don! :-) One of these people even took the chance to ask for Sigvald's
autograph. We smiled and were very proud of our norwegian friend!
The time started to get near 8, we had been standing in line for 2? hours.
- The raptus-people in red (bosses) and yellow (unpayed helpers) t-shirts
had already told that it would be good if we only asked for autographs
from now on. We didn't mind that much - We had come mainly to meet Don,
and I myself to get a long-wanted autograph in my Lo$-book plus giving Don
the book I have written the preface for - Don is mentioned on the last
page several times.
One of the red-tshirted people told that they were trying to find out if
the guards could stay longer than untill 8, where the festival was closing
for the day.
Unluckily this showed not to be possible so at 10 to 8 we were asked if we
were a group, we answered yes and became the last people to get in front
of the signing table. To consider the thought that we could have been send
out with the many other disappointed fans is terrible - and we got as
annoyed with this as Don himself when he found out. It's not just done...
- they were offered to come again next day, with a line-number, but many
might have come only for one day like ourselkves.... - As sad as this was
to experience, as great it was to stand in front of Don for the second
time this day (friday the 13th if anyone should wonder - proving that this
is not a day of unluckyness for all). I finally got the long-awaited
autograph, in blue ink, and I gave Don the book with my preface, showing
the translated part, and my dedication in it. Next in line was Sigvald who
got his moustache added to the drawing together with a starling To
SIGVALD, in gold-ink.
I took photoes while this happened, also as S?ren, Jesper and Thomas were
getting autographs in their Lo$-books. It's no wonder that we all brought
our danish copy of this book - it's really great!
Don asked us to hang around so we did, while slowly being pushed out by
the raptus-people who vwere slowly getting more desperate (heck, it was
their job).

duckman. Now, I don't want to be, whatever you would call it, but

So we stopped outside the glassdoors and waited. We saw Don coming down
the stairs - erm, i must admit i was somehow in extase when i saw Don
carrying "my" book under the arm. Sigvald went in again and chatted for a
short while with Don while Heidi made appointments with Don about an
interview next day (what they spoke about, and if the interview was made
I'm not sure I found out). Because Don came out and first we took pictures
of Don and Sigvald. Then I gave thomas my camera, and was also
photographed beside Don. - I'm glad Don had time for this, and that he
presented us for the people with him as friends and fans who will only be
here today. - Don had to go with the raptus-people, to dinner and we too
left.

After a great day and early evening we, Heidi, Sigvald, S?ren, Jesper,
Thomas and I decided to go out for dinner too. What would it be.
Italian was proposed and of course - Don has italian origins (It would
flow with these kind of references for the rest of the trip! :-)
We found a good italian restaurant, but during dinner we agreed that it's
quite more expensive to eat in Norway than in DK.
But the lasagnas and pizzas we had were fine - so was the soft drinks (we
were tired, and some were below the borders of drinking,
so we avoided alcohol). While eating we talked about the great day we had
had and heard about Heidi's job as freelance-journalist, so
we started to look forward to waht we would soon see in the papers. After
dinner Heidi drove us to the guesthouse were we were
spending the night. I was so forgetfull to forget a bottle of whiskey in
the back of her car (I had taken it out of my bag to make it less heavy).
But we said goodbye to Heidi and later Sigvald phoned her to ask her to
take the Whisky with her when she would go to Stavanger.
Thomas and I shared a room, while Sigvald, S?ren and jesper shared the
other room. Before we went to bed we looked again at the fanzines
from our society and on the Rosa-indexes Thomas and i and Sigvald and Geir
have made. One danish and one Norwegian. We made appointments
that the danish index should be send to members of our society as a part
of the membership - the norwegian one will be offered as we aren't
sure all our members would be interested. I for one would, and we will be
sure to offer them here too, if you like. (notice that these indexes are
made
by duckhunters, so one should think we know what we're talking about)
We went to bed, and stood up at 6.30 - it was nice to sleep in a real bed.
- We took the bus to the center of town and went to the fast ferry which
would take us halfway to Stavanger. Onboard we sat at a table and
discussed again the contents of our next Rappet-fanzine.
many ideas were written down (promise to send them to you, guys, i have
the list) at the same time i was doing a bit of german homework,
while sometimes falling into thoughts about how we should have come
earlier and left Bergen later, but still i thought of how great it had
been to finally
meet a friend through 5 years - a friend who'se stories I've been reading
since 1990 and noticed as being his since 1991. That's the half of my
life... :-)
In Leirvik we changed boats. Sigvald had already been so kind to tell us
how a boat had hit a reef and 16 peoples had tragically died in 1999 on a
ship
called Sleipner (the name of odin's 8-legged horse, Odin being the old
king of Gods in the nordic mythology). 69 survived. We got on the boat
Draupner, the sister-
boat of Sleipner. Nice to know, wasn't it?!? :-) tragic.
Thomas took a photo of the memorial in the sea of where this took place. -
On the boat we bought two newspapers. It was Sigvald and I who browsed
them and found articles with Rosa there. In one of them the interviewer

magazine that we lost this winter. - They have a series called wild
stories, reprinting the extras, and they still have (OT:) the
Bamse-magazine that Egmont closed in 1998, exactly as it had it's
25-years-jubilee. (OT off). In Norway they also have the magazine Disney's
animal friends, containing a few comics too. So sometimes we danes feel
cheated, as we don't live in Norway - hmmm...
We carried on and went to the L?v?s Bruktbu, a second-hand-comic shop that
Sigvald regularly attends. Here verything was nicely sorted so we could
easily find the things we wanted. that is, some things we couldn't find as
they weren't there.
We did get some Barks indexes, made by the norwegian donaldists, I found
some weeklies I wanted, some albums that never emerged in DK. Jesper was
looking for paperinik issues between the closure in Denmark and the issue
we both just bought, but no luck there.
While we browsed the comics Sigvald was fetching the car at Stavanger
Museum where he's been indexing interesting things for some time now. he
had his last day of work there on spetember 11th 2002 - a sad date if you
go back one year - R.I.P.
When Sigvald came back we moved our backage to his dad's car and finished
our looking in the shop. Again i felt a bit annoyed with the publishing
policy. Norwegians have had several christmas albums where we only had 2 -
it's not that the stories in those albums are special, not for Barks- or
Rosa-purits (not that i join that group totally, but...), but it's again
sometimes we didn't get... Oh, for crying out loud, when will we learn to
just be happy with what we have as long as we have it...
Outside we put our comics in the car and went to look at the place were
Sigvalds dad grew up - there's a pizza-resatuarant there now (maybe a
closed one) but it was a nice butcher store with big bull-heads on the
facade.
After this we went to a nearby cheese-store to see if we would have a
dejavu. You remember the story "The leming with the locket", where HDL go
into a norwegian cheese-store and find that big round one they like so
much. We took some photoes here.
After this reference to Donald we drove to Sigvalds place, after driving
past the museum.
Inside we said hello to Sigvalds father who was happy to get the tobaco,
whisky and goods that we brought (meat is expensive in Norway and they
don't have access to certain danish things, so we brought 4,2 kg's - which
is maybe 8 pounds.
Sigvalds father was making sheep and cabbage - with potatoes. This course
was ready in a few minutes. We crazy donaldists started to think of
references at once. Sigvald said - the sheep coul?d have walked on Dismal
Downs. The cabbage made me think of the crazy professor in US 8 and the
potatoes could have been in that treasure chest that Malcolm and Donald's
reincarnation digged down. Sigvald's father didn't have any official
comments asd to if this was intended or not :-)
As a thank you for the goods we had brougfh Sigvald and i had made an
appointment that i would get the Disney Monoply game that he had bought
earlier in the week for me.
After dinner we were busy - I, S?ren and Jesper studied Sigvalds
collection with many books and interesting articles and stuff. I found out
that i would like to have scans of all the norwegian prefaces for the
yearbooks with reprints.
While we browsed Sigvalds big room, Thomas and Sigvald went upstairs to
scan Sigvalds finished fandraiwng for Heidi and to do webthings with
Sigvalds email account and homepage.
As the time neared for our departure for Egersund we made packages with
bread and good norwegian chesse that Sigvald's father offered for us. - I
also had some chats with Gr?sfjeld sr. about his job as ingeneer and the
many books he had. Before we left we had stewed prunes and we talked
about this being good food for donaldists too, as especially one of the
beagle Boys has stated several times that he "likes prunes"!
Thomas and I got to taste a special whiskey liqueur that we had heard a
lot about while Sigvald was in Denmark. this was Southern comfort reserve
from Louisville, Kentucky, where Don lives. In Denmark we had only been
able to find a sort from New Orleans. But that's not duck-related and
thuis not very important in this connection.
At 6 we left for Egersund after having said thanks to Sigvald father for
good donaldistic food. On the way we pass a football-course were famous
norwegian players have trained in their younger years their names were:
Erik Thorstvedt and Linda Medalen. - and we danes in the car did laugh a
bit cause it was getting a bit funny that we didn't understand every
sentence Sigvald said - so he had to explain again and we then did
understand.
We reached Egersund a 7.15 in good time before the ferry took of. We sat
down after getting the tickets - we talked again of how good a trip we had
had, and I left the basketball-thing from the weekly for Sigvald to keep -
i hope your nephew will like it as much as you and Thomas did on the boats
from Bergen to Stavanger :-)
We left Sigvald thanking very much for a great end of the week - and we
made appointments that we would meet again - hopefully next summer, so
that we could have more time to see the beautiful land of Norway with a
biut less hastiness than this trip suffered a bit from.
On the boat we found the room with the sleeping seats - this time we were
placed at the window. - I panicked for a moment thinking I had lost my
keys - but thye were in my jacket, luckily. So we went to a silent place
and played Monopoly. With breaks of going to taxfreee, eating fish and
chips and being asked my some norwegian girls if we would go and dance
with them we played untill 12. S?ren won - darned (For S?ren da ogs? to
put it in danish - or, oops sorry, for Peter!).
We also had a lot of fun with taking photoes of eachother while we shutted
up (holding a juice-container with the name kjeft, is to hold a kjeft...)
Then we got tired and went up to sleep.. S?ren and i did go for an extra
walk to use some coins. We tried one of these one-armed thieves and won 35
kroners. We tried a bit more, just to lose some of them, and then we went
to buy a Pondus-magazine, just to see what these girls in the paper were
talking of. (I haven't found out yet)
Then we did go to sleep. During the night I layed myself on the floor and
woke up by the same crazy norwegin loudspeaker-person.
Then we packed and went to land - Jespers grandparents fetched him, and we
said goodbye and seeyou and thanks for a great time.
Thomas, S?ren and I drove to Nissum - and spend some housrs on talking,
uploading pictures and generally talking about our experience of the trip.
At 2.54 the train with Thomas and S?ren left the station after a dinner
there and an episode with S?ren who couldn't find his ticket - luckily he
did :-) See you all, friends. This was one of the best half weeks In my
life as a donaldist.

Thomas and I decided to go out for dinner too. What would it be.
Italian was proposed and of course - Don has italian origins (It would
flow with these kind of references for the rest of the trip! :-)
We found a good italian restaurant, but during dinner we agreed that it's
quite more expensive to eat in Norway than in DK.
But the lasagnas and pizzas we had were fine - so was the soft drinks (we
were tired, and some were below the borders of drinking,
so we avoided alcohol). While eating we talked about the great day we had
had and heard about Heidi's job as freelance-journalist, so
we started to look forward to waht we would soon see in the papers. After
dinner Heidi drove us to the guesthouse were we were
spending the night. I was so forgetfull to forget a bottle of whiskey in
the back of her car (I had taken it out of my bag to make it less heavy).
But we said goodbye to Heidi and later Sigvald phoned her to ask her to
take the Whisky with her when she would go to Stavanger.
Thomas and I shared a room, while Sigvald, S?ren and jesper shared the
other room. Before we went to bed we looked again at the fanzines
from our society and on the Rosa-indexes Thomas and i and Sigvald and Geir
have made. One danish and one Norwegian. We made appointments
that the danish index should be send to members of our society as a part
of the membership - the norwegian one will be offered as we aren't
sure all our members would be interested. I for one would, and we will be
sure to offer them here too, if you like. (notice that these indexes are
made
by duckhunters, so one should think we know what we're talking about)
We went to bed, and stood up at 6.30 - it was nice to sleep in a real bed.
- We took the bus to the center of town and went to the fast ferry which
would take us halfway to Stavanger. Onboard we sat at a table and
discussed again the contents of our next Rappet-fanzine.
many ideas were written down (promise to send them to you, guys, i have
the list) at the same time i was doing a bit of german homework,
while sometimes falling into thoughts about how we should have come
earlier and left Bergen later, but still i thought of how great it had
been to finally
meet a friend through 5 years - a friend who'se stories I've been reading
since 1990 and noticed as being his since 1991. That's the half of my
life... :-)
In Leirvik we changed boats. Sigvald had already been so kind to tell us
how a boat had hit a reef and 16 peoples had tragically died in 1999 on a
ship
called Sleipner (the name of odin's 8-legged horse, Odin being the old
king of Gods in the nordic mythology). 69 survived. We got on the boat
Draupner, the sister-
boat of Sleipner. Nice to know, wasn't it?!? :-) tragic.
Thomas took a photo of the memorial in the sea of where this took place. -
On the boat we bought two newspapers. It was Sigvald and I who browsed
them and found articles with Rosa there. In one of them the interviewer

Trip to Bergen - An additional report!

Hi all!
Thanks to my dear friend AC Siveb?k for his nice and
very detailed report about his and our other friends
visit to my homeland ? Norway! There are however still
some points that should be mentioned to get a complete
picture of this great event.
First AC mentions Jon Gisle without adding that Gisle
is a Norwegian!!! How could you forget such important
information, AC?
AC also tells about the word "kjeft" which could mean
"mouth", but that word can also mean 'verbal
punishment' like when Donald shouts to HD&L when they
refuse to do their homework.
If anyone wonders whatever happened to the whisky
which AC accidentally left in Heidi's car, I can tell
that Heidi agreed to hand it over to another friend of
mine. A guy from Stavanger who lives in Bergen. He
said he'll bring it with him the next time he goes to
Stavanger.
As AC said, we discussed the next DDF-fanzine during
the trip form Bergen to Stavanger. What he didn't
mentioned is that I was the one who wrote the ideas
down on a paper. If you think it sounds strange that a
Norwegian took notes for a bunch of Danes, I can tell
you that 400 years ago it was Danish officials who
took notes in the Norwegian courts. So what we did was
just turning this upside-down.
AC mentioned the pizza-store in the house where my
father grew up. It's not closed AC, the reason it
looked locked is that it has not opened yet!
As AC said I offered my Danish friends a taste of a
great whisky liquor I got from the tax-free shop at
the Amsterdam airport last year. Since it's bottled in
Louisville, Kentucky I think we can agree that it has
Donaldism in every drop

together with me in Trondheim. She is now a
freelance-journalist and sure did her stuff well that
Friday. Her article ended up in Verdens Gang (VG) -
Norway's larges newspaper, on Sunday September 15th.

Hi!
I'm building a new section for my website with characters of real life who
appears in Barks/Rosa stories and drawings...
Watching at biographies of Roosevelt webpages, I learnt that he moved to the
Dakota Badlands in 1884, after his first wife Alice (the one that appears in
"the sharpie of the Culebra Cut" is the second one, Edith), and his mother
died. In "The Buckaroo of the Badlands" (D 92008), Don Rosa shows that
Scrooge meets Teddy in this very place in a story that is said to happen in
1882-1883, ie before 1884. Is there a mistake, here, or is it me who make a
mistake? Is the story meant to happen after Roosevelt's wife and mother's
death? I think it is, teddy seems to be a bachelor in this story... And it
cannot happen before his wedding with Alice, as it was, I think, in 1880...

Regarding "Stonewall Duck"

100 years before the story in WDC&S 239 (1960): Using the
name "Stonewall" Barks must have had the American civil war
in mind, 1861-64, with "Stonewall Jackson" a famous general
for the South. However, since Don Rosa has determined that
Duckburg is on the Pacific coast, near the actual town of
Eureka, California, Duckburg could not have been involved in
the American Civil war. Perhaps we could determine what
foreign power could have engaged Duckburg in a battle
around 1860. The Russians had a fort at the town called
Fort Bragg, California, which is somewhat south of Duckburg.
This was established when the Russians were exploring
the west coast of America, and held the territory of Alaska.
At some point they gave up on Fort Bragg and went back
to Alaska, and in 1867 they gave up on Alaska, too, and it
became a territory of America, and the 49th state in 1957.
So perhaps Stonewall Duck encountered some Russian
troups in 1860, and his victory convinced them to leave
Fort Bragg, and, discouraged, eventually Alaska, too. I've
been to the old fort at Fort Bragg, which is maintained as
a historic relic. There was never any battle there, or anywhere
between American and Russian military at that time. In real
life, I think the Russians left Fort Bragg earlier than 1860,
but maybe these things can be modified a little for applications
to Duckburg.

You miss the last year by one year. That war ended in
1865.

Wrong again, take a look at a map for that war.
California and Oregon was on the North's side so I
guess they sent troops to the Ballefields in the east.
However Don Rosa has once told me (when I was doing my
WEB-pages about the history of Duckburg) that Calisota
was neutral in that war.

Forreign power? Why not indians?
I guess that Stonewall Duck must have been the leader
of the Woodchuck Militia in 1860.
