Coulda been! I'm a longtime subscriber to FILM SCORE MONTHLY and I consider
their release of Waxman's score to PRINCE VALIANT one of the best music CDs
I have!
But no, the initials of "F.S.M." in the gaslamp wicks (not lightbulbs in a
Dawson City saloon!) was the favor desired by the guy who gave me the
two-sentence germ of an idea for the plot of that story. He wants me to
never divulge his name (and I don't know why) -- all I can say beyond that
is he lives in France and is a reader of PICSOU.

It was nice, indeed, to read about FSM here, finding some of us share another passion. I don't have
Prince Valiant (though I was tempted), but I'm still #3 on the DCML / FSM list, and there may well
be a couple of titles we share-- by Goldsmith, Williams, Bernstein, ...

I'll try and make the transition from film music back to Disney comics thanks to "The Life & Times":
"I think I handled [Scrooge's parents' death] fairly tastefully by allowing the final scene in 'The
Ghost and Mrs Muir' to be my inspiration; I could hear that glorious Bernard Herrmann score in my
head as I drew those panels".

I don't have Herrmann's score to "The Ghost and Mrs Muir" (yet-- I do have the theme on a Herrmann
compilation though), but I've read somehwere the DVD is planned for next year. ;)

Disney-wise, besides the comics, once they're up and running, I hope Gemstone will publish some
"Library" albums-- by Don Rosa, Van Horn, Jippes, Taliaferro, ...

If all goes well, I should be able to announce a new feature on my site
(http://ob7.free.fr/mice_and_ducks/) for the new year. I am preparing it right now and hope you will
like it.

Seriously, now:

1) Stefan's message was posted yesterday afternoon. So, most DCML
subscribers haven't had a chance to read it before today's digest was
produced. Today is Saturday, and it's the last weekend before Christmas.
Most of us do have a life outside DCML, so I'm not surprised at all to see
very few postings here, regardless of the topic's importance.

2) Anyway, what kind of "important discussion" did you expect to arise from
Stefan's message? I was very glad to read it, but it basically says "There
are rumours that your strike is over, Don. Can you confirm?" It seems
natural to me to wait for Don's answer, and then maybe ask about his next
story (if he hasn't already told us in his answer, and if noone else has
already asked him).

3) It's fun to notice that the "boring off-topic discussion about Prince
Valiant" was started by Don himself. Should we scold him, Sigvald? "Get back
to the drawing board, Don, and stop filling your Disney stories with
off-topic references to non-Rosa facts"... ;-)

Hi everybody,

I was surfing through Ebay and spot my eyes on an auction of Don Rosa's
original artwork.

" This is the original pencil and inked page of comic art by Don Rosa NOT a
reproduction or the colorists art but the ORIGINAL ART!"

I just started to wonder that how could this be possible, since Disney
doesn't let the artists keep the original inkings. I mean, I understand that
there is for sale a lot of artwork that has been drawn "only" by pencil
(sketches, etc.) but final inkings on sale at Ebay??

Has Disney sold in this case DR's originals to somebody who is now trying to
take profit of them...
Or has DR had the chance to keep this stories originals at himself and sell
them forward...

Happy Holidays to all. I have finally (belatedly) finished drawing my holiday
greetings card for DCML, which includes 2 drawings. They are far to large in
memory, to send to individual list members, as they would likely block
important mail from reaching members' e-mail boxes. As I do not have my own
website, and know NOTHING about uploading, I must plead for help from some kind
and helpful member. If any of you have room on one of your websites, and have
the will and time to upload these drawings... please reply to me at
<bi442 at lafn.org> , and I will send the images to you. They are currently in a
lage format. They need to be reduced in size and placed one above the other.

I am sorry I am so late with them, but hope to send the note to the list to
have members see them, at least from around Christmas Day to New Year's Day (if
possible).

Thanks to Timo and Simo for their nice drawings. I hope others also have some
for us to see.
