One line was *totally* altered. In the original version (and I don't
know whether this holds for Gladstone's recent version as well), a
character complains about cheap watches that doesn't work in the words:
"Shows you can't trust these watches from the workers' paradise". But in
the Danish version it is (retranslated back from Danish): "Shows you
can't trust these McDuck watches." !!! The point of the joke turned
around 180 degrees! I'd say that is a criminally bad translation.

The Database contains a lot of information about French comics, like
Picsou Magazine and Mickey Parade, but the only comics that have
been indexed *completely* are some Journal de Mickeys.

At the moment, Francois Willot and I are working on transferring his
elaborate index to our Database. (Francois is not a list member, though.)

Didier Ghez (who *is* a list member, and he's French) has delivered
a French Don Rosa index, which includes the Rosa stories in Picsou
Magazine.

Any help is welcome! Please contact me in private mail if you want to
help with our Database!

If I understand your description well, their software is also much more
professional than ours.

If you have suggestions for making those files more understandable (within
some other restrictions), you're welcome! Maybe an extensive help text

For the Disney comics Database, all updates go through me, except the
descriptions of stories, which you can fill in on Per's website.

If we want info to be updatable from the web, we need robust software,
which checks everything a user can input. This is not available
(and I think making it is a *lot* of work).

At the moment, 2 persons are programming for the Database:
I have programs to maintain the Database and produce all kinds
of output files. Per Starback has programs to create his web pages
and the search utility.
(And other people made programs for off-line browsing the
entire Database, and for converting data from and to the Database.)

I don't know which page you are referring to. But then, I rarely browse
through the Disney web pages.

We didn't make the prefix "The Life.." a part of the title of those stories
(it's in a different database field: "series").
And since the search utility can only search on code and title, you can't
find them this way.

It is very hard to have a database of all Disney comics, let alone all
comics in the world! One of the hard things is, for instance, identfying
a story in a (foreign) reprint.
Besides that, I wouldn't be interested in most of the non-Disney comics...

Thanks to Harry for comments regarding story ratings I raised. FYI, The
convention is scheduled for Thursday through Sunday, July 17-20, at teh
San Diego Convention Center. They have a website!
All people who contribute to the creation and publication of that
artform known as the comic book need to be occasionally applauded for
the hard work they do. To all of you( and you know who you are ) thank
you very much!

It wasn't the easy to find it -- it was downstairs. (There are four
different restaurants in the Marriott hotel.)

Several list messages seem to suggest Egmont is going to publish
some great material in the coming few weeks; "The Treasure of Marco Polo"
and "A Little Something Special" for example. Could it be possible to get
some info about these kinds of publications well before? No, it wouldn't
actually have any use, but it'd be great knowing that stuff before anyone
else :)

Could you post to the list the schedual of your upcoming trip to
Europe? Also, I don't think it's been asked of you recently, so what story
are you working on now?

Probably change it to some very stereotype accent (at least in
Finland they're great with synonymes and colorful expressions, but not too
hot on dialects and accents - but on the other hand, their excellent use
of proper Finnish is praised by many, including me) or simply translate it
into "Except for a few nice people I know who live there". Perhaps it'd
help if they were told that...

...it's the dialect of the creator's home town.

Btw, if you can't get the pens anywhere else, I can have a look,
now as this other guy's going on a vacation.

But even if you have five digits in the end of every limb, you
still can't count to 16 without taking off both of your shoes. 15, si! 16,
no! That's quite clever, the way Mickey put it there.

I no longer have my copy of the Gladstone (?) issue that had "Cash Flow" by
Don Rosa and regret it. I really enjoyed the story and it was, I believe,
the second Don Rosa story I ever read, so I am sure you would have liked it
more if you had read it before all of his other stories. Someone on this
list around a year ago suggested that "Cash Flow" was reprinted in Don's
first collection of stories put out by Gladstone, but I checked and think
that person had it mixed up with "Money Pit" which was in that collection.

Anyhow, one of the things I liked about the story was the continuity of the
two ray guns a professor invented while trying to develop odorless cabbage
(and I do not have that story either and cannot tell you if it was Bark's
or Rosa's, sorry) and the Beagle Boys stole. One of the guns was anti
inertia. I would love to see the story reprinted or put in a Rosa
collection.
