That's my idea! I think we have lot's of information about lot's of Disney
creators and we are not using it! So, it's a good idea to begin with us! (We
know something about us, right? :)
If we read the DCML archives, we will find LOT of information about many
artists...so, let's collectin it and put togheter...and what a better place
than the DCML home?

I think we have problems:

1-I don't know if some artists has contracts that say that they can't give
information about thenselves! Like Barks, on the past! (It includes me, and
I work to a Studio, so I didn't sign this type of contract!) So, I don't
know if I can send DATA about myself to Inducks(?!?!?!?)...but I do. :)

2-Information(not images) can be collect in any way?

3- I think it's better to don't include ANY image of examples on
DCML...because it is associated very much with the most incredible project
on Disney Comics, the Inducks! It's better to "protect" this "no-royalties"
project from a violation of copyrights! Well...I'm not sure about what I sad
now...!

4-But, I don't know...use a image into a article, is or not, a violation of
copyright? The law say to pay royalties, right?

And a no-problem, the idea of a picture of the artist is GREEEEEAAAAT!

I visited Johan de Jong last Saturday. He is a big fan of Gold Key comics
(Disney and non-Disney). He has a big collection of them, and many doubles
to trade (even rare Whitman comics from the 80s).
Johan does not have e-mail (nor will he have it in the foreseeable future).
He's already corresponding with some of us, but he can use more contacts.

Yes, and Don puts all those "annoying little details". But as the drawing
to which I was referring was recognizable as Don's even though it did
not have any of those details, I suspect that a duck without the context
of speech or without sweat drops would still be recognizable as Perego's
of Gatto's. "Style" must be something a bit more subtle.

Maybe Per don't have very much time to do it! I see he very FEW times on
DCML, and on the first years(I'm reading the first's DCML archives!), he
appear a lot!

Yes! Three years studing english on a school are not better than this
incredible machine! Maybe I can ask Gyro to do one to me(Sometimes he visits
Brazil, and test his inventions on Vila Xurupita)...and I can pay royalties
to you!!! :)

Someone has answers on my questions about royalties/articles/use of images?
Maybe the italian authors around here?

"Mickey and the Pirates", aka "The Captive Castaways", ran on
American newspaper strips in 1934. "Race for Riches" was published
one year later. Drawn by Gottfredson, these superb stories show Mickey at his apex.

Gyro *does* call him Black Pete in that story.
Quite a surprise to have Barks, in a story that he wrote and drew
completely on his own (to the best of my knowledge), independently decide to
just use Pete out of the blue. But he did...

The problem is that in Italy, Pete's name was always the same: Pietro
Gambadilegno.
As you know, the character's American name, Peg-leg Pete, was changed in the
comic books, since Pete got no more his peg-leg (and his very name was not
politically correct anymore).
But Peg-leg Pete and Black Pete are the same character (later changed into
Big bad Pete, to avoid any possible reference to the "black" race).
Incidentally, try to control the Romano Scarpa's "Tapioco VI" story, in the
MM comic book, where Pete was totally naked in a panel. Do you remember that
famous sequence of panels?
Well, in a comic book of the 90s (and in a story written few years before
the GG Barks' one), under his fake shoe,the nake Pete was still wearing his
old peg-leg of the 30es!
Obviously, SCARPA knows a lot about SHOES... (this sort of joke should be
understandable only to the Italian-speaking memebers, I suppose)...

And that's true, since "Peg-Leg" become "Black", in the Western's comic
books (beginning from the early 50s, or the late 40s, it'd worth to check).
So, in all the stories with the original American name of Black Pete, this
one was translated as Pietro Gambadilegno into Italian. I'm sure you all
know that when Bill Wright redrew the old Gottfredson's story about the
Mystery of Hidden River ("Topolino e il taglialegna" in Italy), he avoided
any explanation about the "brand new model of shoe" which was conceived to
hide Pete's (or I should call him Pierre 8-)?) peg-leg. The reason is that
the peg-leg was not popular anymore at the time.

Al least, the righ question of Marco should not have been:

And the right answer is "Yes"!
So, Barks drew and named the arch-enemy of Mickey, as it was "normal" to do
