Please, all who wish to express anger, sadness and disgust about the
homicidal bullshit done by those fucking assholes on Tuesday, feel free to
do so. A holocaust like the one we've lived to see is far more important
than printed stories about some talking ducks and rhetorical questions
about the true name of the mythical ancient city of Xanadu.
I live in a Virginia suburb on the outskirts of Washington, D. C., and my
area experienced school and office closings and discontinuing of mail
service on that motherfucking day. Luckily, my dad works on the other side
of the city, but a lot of other peoples' apparently didn't, including,
possibly, some people I know. As many people have noted, the news footage
looked like scenes from "Independence Day" or "Mars Attacks!". Now, I'm a
big fan of those movies, as well as slasher flicks like the "Scream"
trilogy, but I know the difference between Hollywood and real life. I don't
think this could lead to WW3, as it's the free world against a random group
of terrorists from some third-world country and the whole free world, plus
we've got the Internet and the United Nations cementing most people
together, to all terrorists and other bomb-happy psychos out there, KEEP
THE FUCK OUT MY BACKYARD!!!!!! ("You maniacs! You blew it up! God damn you
all to hell!!!!")
But I recognize the purpose of this list, and hope to get back on-topic
soon. I recently acquired some vintage Gladstone and Disney issues which I
might like to discuss here. As for the Carl Barks obit mentioned by Gerry
Tank, all I know is that I received this message on the night Barks died:
In Memorium
CARL BARKS
March 27 1901

In other matters, some of you are waiting for replies dealing with comic
trades between me and those ones of you. My replies, delayed by a recent
week-long absence, will unfortuneately have to wait longer, for obvious
reasons.

off-topic -Thanks to all for your expressions of sympathy to those of us in
the USA.
I live in California but have visited New York many times on business. I
remember how beautiful the two World Trade Center buildings were from the
air - like two enormous tourmaline crystals towering hugely above
normal-sized big-city office buildings.
No one from my company was killed, but we are in the process of merging with
another company. That company had a person on the plane that was bound for
San Francisco, and he is now dead. They also had 4 people visiting the
Trade Center at the time, along with 2 of their Chinese business partners,
all now presumed dead.
I live and work in an extremely ethnically diverse area. On my cul-de-sac,
my neighbors are African Americans, Chinese, Mexican, Philipino, Vietnamese,
and from India and the Maldives. We all live in harmony. We are of many
religions and are all, without exception, amazed that there is such evil in
the world. And like everyone else in America, we are all very VERY angry.
Some of them speak of retribution, once more facts are discovered about the
organizers. Others say that it will not be retribution - it will be
justice. Either way, expect something to happen.

DCML digest, Vol 1 #666 - 11 msgs / predictions

EERO-PEKKA HALINEN, 13-09-2001:
> And all this talk about the 911, when do they figure out that
> plane's numbers make 666 or something?
You just made a slight connection yourself. :-) Look at the subject
line of this email, which refers to the digest I'm replying to.
Anyway, the date "911" as reference to the American alarm number
could make sense, I think, at least in theory. No prediction
theories are needed for that. Those ****'s who planned this
disaster, could easily have known about such a connection in
advance.
Apart from this, I'm thinking, again theoretically, that if a
prediction is written down, it could also act as a *plan* for
anyone who reads it, as self-fullfilling prophecy.
I mean, if I would write that A. Person will get a comic book
in the near future. It could remind another reader of a forgotten
promise to that person. Result: "Hey! That prediction matched!
I got a comic! How did he know?"
About the Nostradamus subject:
I find the emails with the explanations about the hoax, but also
about Nostradamus himself, very interesting.
The last book of the Bible ("Revelation"? Dutch name is "Openbaringen")
also contains predictions about the end of the world. A while ago
I read an explanation by a Christian preacher. He told that there's
a theory about these predictions which says that these predictions are
about the fall of the Roman imperium, about 2000 years *ago*. I can't
recall it fully, but I think that it said that the beast coming out of
the sea is Rome, and that the heads of the dragon refer to the Roman
leaders of that time.
The theory said something about the message being coded because it
was written when being imprisoned on an island, so that it could
pass the Romans without getting destroyed by them because of the
contents. From that island, Rome was visible at the horizon, as
a beast coming out of the water.
I'm sorry to be so vague. (Or erroneous?) This is all from memory.
The theory was very detailed, accompanied with quotes from the Bible.
I hope that someone else can fill me in. Maybe this theory can be
found on internet as well?
As I already noted, this came from a Christian preacher, from an
average Reformed/Protestant church. So, maybe it's an lesser known
alternate Christian theory about this Bible chapter?

The mail sent by Mark Doukakis is a nationalistic spam
and/or troll. I guess that this was an error and hope
that Mark won't send any more of those to the list.
What happened in America is a tragedy but I can't help
thinking that people almost never talk about the
enormous amount of persons killed in a few wars around
the world, sometimes several hundred of thousands in a
few months. For these ones, we never send emails to
say that we're shocked by the numbers of innocent
victims.
I *do* hope that Americans won't take the above badly,
as I am absolutely with them and am sharing their
pains. Just a though.

New York Disaster
Message 140 -

Hi all
The whole planet is still shocked by the terrible
terrorist attack, 3 days ago. The number of the
victims that have been losted so unfair is huge and
expected to be more than 30.000 people.
During these 3 terrible days, the TV channels
worldwide spend many-many hours covering the event and
bringing to us (Europeans) the latest news from New
York's disaster.
The Greek TV channels interrupt their normal program 2
minutes after the first plane's crash. From that
moment and until today all the Greek channels are
tranfering all the latest news and also trying to
estimate how many deads are in the World Trade Center
and how many Greeks died there. 7 Greeks are dead
until now but the number is tragical bigger, up to 100
deads.
I hope there are no deads from your countries. There
must be no victims from Scandinavia or Italy or the
Netherlands, but Britain, Germany and Greece have lost
a lot of people there.
So, all of you American members of DCML you can count
on us. Europe supports you, so Greece too. We've sent
two earthquake-trained teams from Athens (25 men) and
Thessaloniki (another 25) to help you locating people
inside the wreckage. The other countries will sent
help in the next few hours. Some of us have
experienced earthquakes and we know how terrible is to
watching your city falling apart. And together with
the live TV videos from the WTC collapsing, I can say
that I know how difficult is to understand this chaos
and madness and fear.
This terrorist act was awful. But life goes on. You
must keep living. You'll rebuild the towers but also
you'll pray and remember the victims. WE will never
forget them...
Best Wishes and God bless all of us

actually no, this is a famous article written in the late 1960s, early 1970s,
and actually also released on a 45 rpm (if anyone here is old enough to
remember those) as was a top 40 hit in the usa circa 1972. It was actually

I guess my previous message here was interpreted more than it should have
been. By no means did I take offense at any of the Xanadu or other Duck
discussions. I merely meant that while those are perfectly okay here, I
think discussing the cataclysmic recent events is also okay. Daniel van
Eijmeren said the thing I meant in a much better way. By the way, my take
on the Xanadu name question is this:
***SPOILER***
Tralla La and Xanadu turn out to be two different names for the same place.

I'm just letting you know that you have *my* full support.

Our minister of foreign affairs reports that he fears 1 or 2 dead people
from the Netherlands.
This information is important for people who are missing relatives or
friends. But otherwise I don't see the point in counting the deads by
nationality.
This morning when I drove to work, whole streets were full of Dutch and
American flags, hanging half-mast. At 12:00 (in 2 hours), we will have a
3-minute silence.

My sincere condolences and my deepest friendship and love to all NewYorkers
and Americans and all people who lost folks in this brutal attack. Hard
times!
BTW Me, I don't pay much attention on "prophecies", because there is a
reason by which they are much doubtable from the very root: Concerning all
prophecies not involving natural disasters, which happens first? The
prediction or the fact? I mean, the prophet say about future people's
acting, or the people acts because the past prophet said? You never can
tell.
My best wishes,
Santiago.

This is the majority Christian view, taught at most Theological
Universities, though not so much in more "grassroot" oriented movements.
OTOH: This does not exclude parts of it from also being of more "general"
character as pertaining to "any time" of persecution or war, and perhaps to
a "final time".
Though I've seen little in any Disney comic on this;-)

The bells of Notre-Dame tolled for a couple of minutes
before noon today, Sept 14.
At 12:00, President Jacques Chirac and US Ambassador to France
Howard H. Leach stepped out into the courtyard of the Elys?e
(the French equivalent of the White House) and France came to a halt
(metros and such stopped, classes stopped, ...) for three minutes,
as did fellow EU countries.
At the Elys?e, after almost five minutes of silence, the Garde R?publicaine
played "The Star Spangled Banner".
This was an unprecedented event.
But more importantly-- it was a most moving moment.

Doesn't matter who wrote it or when, its rubbish.
Please think .... THIS IS AN INTERNATIONAL ISSUE. Australian's, British,
Chinese, Indians, Canadians and plenty of other countries have also lost
hundreds of people in this attack. I would like to return some balance to a
discussion that is too based on America's woes.
What needs to happen is for America to decide WITH the U.N Security
Council/NATO what its course of action will be, to bring about swift and
effective justice for the terrorists responsible and NOT cause a larger
conflict or kill more innocent people, in doing it.
Also, I do NOT need to be told I am having a day of mourning with a 3 minute
silence at 11:00. I have British and American friends that worked in the
building, as well as fellow Australians that died. I find it ironic to say
we are having a Day of Prayer or Mouring or whatever one day .... then
whipping some arse next week.
Something to think about (at whatever time you want)

You could also say that every inker tends to add something

own kind of personal style. I took some scanns about Mau

inking job has been done.
Note also how also May Haymans' own style has changed during

You could also say that every inker tends to add something
of their own to the pages they ink. Every inker is having
own kind of personal style. I took some scanns about Mau
Heymans stories having various inkers. If looking at those
scanns we might note that also inkers are effecting to the
final artwork - no matter how directly on the pencills the
inking job has been done.
Note also how also May Haymans' own style has changed during
the years.
All these stories below were pencilled by Mau Heymans, story
codes, inkers and the first publication year in Holland are
mentioned:
H 90135 - inked by MAU HEYMANS (1991):

H 98015 - inked by Comicup Studio (1998):

BTW - Somehow recently I have started to realize how good
artist Mau Heymans actually is. I mean it.

AND I REPLY:
Amazing! A reference is made to the "number of the beast" (666), and then
the discussion turns to Revelation, the source of that reference.
Congratulations, Daniel, on calling it the proper English name "Revelation",
rather than "Revelations" (plural), as most Americans do. There was only
one.
I have also heard and read that explanation of the apostle John using veiled
language to speak of the doom of Rome, but I have also learned of many ways
that explanation doesn't fit, particularly as it refers to Christ's direct
involvement in the destruction of the wicked. To avoid getting way off
topic, I'll just extend an invitation to any interested in this subject to
write me privately. I can offer information about an extremely enlightening
and interesting publication that offers a very thorough and clear
interpretation of the last book of the Bible.
I have often ruminated over the idea of the ducks getting involved somehow
with the 4 beasts of Revelation, but that puts the account on the same level
as the mythology often mixed into the stories by Barks, and Christians
aren't going to like that. I believe Don has made the same sort of
objection to Biblical references in Duck stories, and rightly so, though he
comes perilously close in his Crown of the Crusader Kings and the flashbacks
to the first temple constructed in Jerusalem by King Solomon. (His
references do have errors, by the way, but he knows that.)
